Last few weeks and months I've used my PS3 so much. From movie watching to playing games (Mirror's Edge). And with my mom and step dad coming over and inviting people, it was used so much for viewing photos as they took a shitload of pictures. Way more comfortable than watching on a small PC screen and a chair and very fast and smooth too. My step dad was so impressed with the capabilities he now wants a PS3 too (music, movies, bluray and photos).

Now that my Live has expired and with the convoluted NXE and with that PS3mediaserver program (http://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/downloads/list) I hardly have any reason to turn on my 360. :'( I'm starting to buy multiplat games on PS3 too, due to region free and now free online play.

I'd use my PS3 a hell of a lot more often if it weren't for Rock Band 2 and (for reasons unknown) my PS3's horrendous 200kbp/s download speed. (Which because of this, it takes 3 hours to download a demo, and it makes streaming media really crappy.)

KZ2 is coming in a month though. That shit looks hot.

I'd probably use my PS3 more if I could somehow use the 360 controller insead of the dualshock - you cannot imagine how much I hate using that thing. I'm just buying exclusives for it anymore while everything else is on the 360.

PS3 is a nice system. Had a really rough start and it's still missing some essential features but there's something about it I like that I can't qualify. It might be controller preference. Not sure. But it's not as bad as it was a year and a half ago.

This is almost what I do. I buy the rare multi on PS3. The usage evens out considering the amount of PSN stuff I play and multimedia.

i'm turning into a 360 user, so i guess it balances out. the ps3 version of sfhd is SHIT, it seems like all the good players are on 360, sf is the only game that matters, and if i can convince myself to shell out ~$150 on a good 360 stick, i'll probably go with the 360 version of sf4

yeah, SF2HD on the PS3 is weak. It's hard to find a match in remixed mode, but it's impossible to find one in classic mode. If my VSHG worked on the 360, I would be getting SF4 on 360.

arcade sticks really aren't as big as people make them seem. Even that SF4 TE mad catz one is only 6 pounds and probably around the size of the 360.

and for me, I already decided that my PS3 would be the fighting game platform when I got my VSHG. I do wish I went with 360 since it has a better online community and especially because it has a Virtua Fighter 5 that could be played online, but oh well. I'm probably going to be feeling the same way when KoFXII and BlazBlue come out.

it bums me out that the hrap ex is $130 when the hrap 3 is $90 -- figure $25 for sanwa buttons and it's more expensive than the te. yeah, headset port and microsoft licensing and the absence of a japanese market for 360 sticks, but jesus. i've got a doa4 stick, and i do ok with stick inputs, but the buttons are fawful

I went the opposite and chose 360 as my base fighting game platform. After Classic and HD Street Fighter 2, SamSho2, VF5 Online, Battle Fantasia, and Fatal Fury I felt kinda force to get a joystick for the system. I can deal with the PS3 pad but the platform is a bit weak when it comes to classic fighters. The 360 pad is so worthless when it comes to fighting games that saving for a TE Joystick (that will also work on PC) seemed like a good investment.

I have most of my fighters on 360 now and I'll be getting the TE stick there too. Plus there are more arcade games on XBLA that will benefit from the stick. The only one I have just on PS3 now is SCIV.

I have a stick for both X360/PS3, but since I mainly play local 2p and I'm not buying TWO sticks I go with PS3 for fighting games so 2p can just use the pad. Plus sometimes I prefer pads to sticks like with 2d fighters or shmups and I'm a fan of the PS3 d-pad.

If I cared about online I'd definitely go with X360 for fighters since that's where the community is at. But I just play local versus so PS3 versions are fine for that.

I hate the dualshock enough that I often don't bother turning on the PS2 because of it. And it turns me off buying the PS3 - sometimes I get the urge for a shiny new system and then I remember I'll be using that old piece of crap controller.

I wish those lazy cunts would update it.

I've been hoping for a wireless adaptor, but will check this one out. I'll also have a look at Hori's wired 360 pad since I'd have to buy a wired 360 pad for the PS3. Thanks for the info.

Man, I've never got the DS2 hate. I love it to death, my favorite controller by far. It is the ultimate rpg/puzzle/shmup/fighter/action game controller IMO.

BUT I will admit it sucks for FPS games and could be better for racing games. Though considering the amount of FPS games I've played on PS1 (none?)/PS2 (none?)/PS3 (almost none?), it doesn't really seem an issue and I just use the GT force feedback wheel for sim racers. Mainly though I just buy all my FPS games and racing games on X360.

I don't see any inherent flaws with the DS3 for FPS, other than possibly the L2/R2 triggers. The DS2, on the other hand, I never had a decent FPS experience using that controller. Either developers have become better at making games for it, or the controller has itself been improved. I prefer the X360 controller, but not by much, and not for every type of game.

I'm pretty sure the controller itself was improved because going back and playing Black or other PS2 shooters, they actually are a lot more playable now. I hated the DS2 for games where you needing precise camera control (basically shooters), but the DS3 fixed that problem for me. Admittedly, I needed to get those $3 trigger caps to make the controller great, but I hardly have any issues with the DS3 anymore. The only one I can think of is that the grips are a bit too short. I do still prefer the 360 controller for shooters, which means a lot since most games this gen are shooters. Almost every other game type I can go with either and be fine. Tho, some action games I like more with the DS3 (DMC4, Ninja Gaiden, etc.)

i only got mine recently and it's been fun catching up on the exclusives. since the ps3mediaserver thing is better than clunky tversity, the ps3's become my media center too.

tbh i thought it'd be hard to get used to the dual shock for shooters after using the 360 pad so much, but i had no issues with both resistance games. the DS still is a really decent controller

I also prefer to the 360 controller, with the sticks. The concave top shape makes it easier for my thumbs not to slip, which is always a problem when I'm playing high-level Mirror Edge. Over the course of a run my thumb very slowly slides away from the top. During jumps I can usually correct it.
I've also gotten used to more smooth-less-resistance DS3 sticks, which were a problem before. Triggers are also bit of a nuisance for shooters on the DS3.

With the NXE there's even more digging to be done to get to certain functions. Now about the only thing I prefer is the guidebutton and the guide with the friendlist.

I never liked the Dual-Shock2. Platformers have simple controls so those are usually not too bad but anything in first-person or that's racing is unplayable to me. The DS3 has a lot nicer analog sticks and usually you can adjust to the triggers in under 30 minutes but I still prefer the "familiar" feel of the 360.

I don't really get the problem with NXE but I haven't used the PS3's media abilities so I don't know how it would compare. It sounds like you have as good a reason as any to be PS3-centric. You can still get the best/most comfortable versions of MP games.

I actually notice the ads less in new xbox dash compared the old one. The only real annoyance is that it starts on the ad channel/screen/bar instead of the one that lets me start my game right away. The new guide menu is also great, as well as other features. Avatars are pretty stupid and after the initial day or two, I never really look at them and use the old friend list. The biggest improvement is installing games. The ability to install games has actually made the 360 a much, much better console for me. I mean, the PS3 and 360 had features in the past that made them better, but nothing on this scale that made the act of playing games just so much better than it was before.

You can stream to 360 too, but media capabilities of the PS3 have more depth and the windows media player isn't always keeping up with new files and is sometimes quite buggy. PSM is better (easier and faster) at sharing files and it transcodes.
Easier to navigate: amount of digging you have to do in the NXE is starting to bother me and it's slower too. Wasn't that of an issue with the old dashboard.
More settings you can tinker with and more information you can display regarding videos and photos.
I can copy files to the HDD.
Youtube support in the browser: yes, I sometimes watch shows on youtube like Top Gear and it's comfortable to watch that on a TV especially now that youtube quality has gone up.
Loads photos very fast.

The old XBMC was king in ease of use, support of codecs and openness but it couldn't handle high-res content.
