There was a change in February of 2007 that would drastically change their return policy. Are you saying it doesn't apply to video game systems? If so, I might have to return the PS3 before KZ2 comes out. It's been working alright (no freezes), but it still gets the red dots and in-game stretched polygons. KZ2 will probably kill it right off.

I don't believe so... last August I exchanged my dead 360 for a new one right at the store.  I just had to repurchase PGR3 at Gamecrazy for $5 since that came with the original bundle.

Keep in mind this was replacing my 2nd 360 that I exchanged for my first dead 360 at Costco.  Also, keep in mind that they made me return it, get back $500 (original price), and purchase a new, current bundle for $400.  So I walked out with a new 360 and an extra $100.

I think it's time to buy an Arcade dude...

I'd just lie to them and say it has RROD.  Many people have got away with that.

too late  :gloomy they already have my credit card number. There was a warning on the checkout saying "If we cant confirm RROD then we will send you back the busted box" fucking got me :gloomy

I hate myself  :auscry

The repair is half the price of an Arcade, hopefully they stick some jasper chips in there or something. They had better, I fucking paid them enough

I got the one red ring problem too.  It would work fine without the hard drive but when you connected one, it would just display a black screen with a error code (E 74) on it.  They told me that that problem costs $190.

Might be too late but in the future regarding the towel trick, I am not sure if that actually works.  A friend of mine tried doing that for like 6 hours straight after he got DRE's and it didn't make any difference.  Maybe you're supposed to keep a game running or something?

I might be in the minority here but.  I've had my 360 for three or four years and it hasn't RR'd on me yet [knock on wood]  Also, when Bloodwake's RROD'd, I got $10 worth of stuff from a hardware store, cracked it open, and fixed it.  It's worked ever since.  Took maybe two hours, because I had never done it before.

If you get sick of dealing with Microshit, just fix it yourself.  It takes little to no tech knowledge, but does void your warranty.  You just open it, replace the clamps with screws, and you're done.  And after four times of RROD, I'd be pissed enough to just open the fucker.  Hope that helps.

There is a new resale market growing from the RROD and DIY fix, where people smartly buy RROD'd systems for cheap, fix the problem and then sell them for $50 more. Sort of cool. And holy shit at the Xbox 360 prices on Ebay. I just got a a complete premium package (some hdmi version) for $105 shipped.  :o

I wonder if they would accept a launch unit?  My original launch 360 survived up until a few months ago.  I ended up buying an arcade unit for HDMI, but I would like to have a spare for CO-OP sessions.  Any ideas if they would still repair it for free despite the fact that the 3 year warranty is up?

The funny part: this is true.  About a month after posting this, my system RRoD'd.  Goddamn JinxBore.

Surprisingly enough though, M$ was really good about getting it back to me quickly.  I think it took 10 days, and cost me nothing.  Even got a free month of Live out of it.  So, all in all, they're stepping up.

I'm pretty sure units manufactured in the first 6 months have permanent warranties, the 3 year warranties are for XBox's produced after that period. Maybe I'm wrong, I haven't had to deal wtih this stuff

lmfao, I typed in the wrong place.

It never hurts to call them and ask about it.  Don't tell them when you got it, just tell them the serial number and see what they say.  The call is free.  It just takes about 15-20 mins to get someone and make them understand whats going on.  I totally suggest it.  And usually, you can go to your local GameStop/EB Games and ask for some of the packing materials and a box that they usually throw away and have free shipping mats.  Tell them that you're an employee at an out of town store or something and that your cousin that you're visiting needs them to send off a 360... lol.  Or just tell the truth.

I suspect mine is on the verge. Its frozen 3 times in the last week and I've had about 5 disc read errors today alone. Son of a bitch. Had it since November 06. How long does it usually take for MS to fix them? I'd almost rather just buy a new arcade.

Looks like the extended warranty only covers RROD. Which means I'm shit out of luck. A regular repair has a flat cost of $100. From what I've been able to gather dirty disc errors could mean the drive is going bad.

The wife just reminded me that I have a Halo 3 LE 360 sitting on a closet shelf.  :dur

So, I hooked it up with the HDD I was using on the other 360. It prompted me to download the NXE. Why would it do that if I already downloaded the NXE on the other 360? Is the NXE only installed on the console and not on the hdd? I'm confused. Don't want to fuck up my hdd.

The firmware updates are installed to the actual consoles.  That is why the console can still turn on without a hard drive or memory card.

So yes you have to download it again.

Is it possible for the hdd to cause freezes?

Had two in the last time I played. Both were when it was loading. Never, ever had any on that particular Xbox. Not sure which version it is, but its the Halo 3 LE with the hdmi output. I believe that's one of the versions that is supposed to work a lot better. Pissing me off.
