Seems pretty mediocre.  I like Syphon Filter more.

omg, i love my psp today. I got Resistance, Patapon 2, and MLB 09 yesterday awesome

:bow PSP

Hopefully there isn't a second half drought like last year though  :'(

About Resistance: it is fun and the presentation is top notch, but I think it is too easy when the large chimera can't advance past cover, which makes defeating them a piece of cake. omg, the cover system is sooo good though. Haven't touched multi yet, but I heard that is supposed to be good also

I liked the demo, actually, so I might try it.  I had no interest prior to the demo, but I think the controls are brilliant for a handheld shooter.  I could never really get used to the controls in Syphon Filter due to the amount of buttons required to play well.

It just felt too slow for me to really get into it, but I'm going to give it another shot-- it's supposed to have a pretty lengthy campaign and decent multiplayer.

there's some really smart design decisions in this game. The lock on system works great, even if it's not the best for locking onto the exact enemy that you want, but it is a great way of compensating for the lack of precise controls. Also, the cover system is great and simplifies the gameplay, instead of forcing players to duck behind geometry.

I enjoyed the demo a lot and will be picking it up on Tuesday or Wednesday.

btw, GTA Chinatown Wars for the DS came online too.  I'm more curious to see how that turned out.

Both games, plus Henry Hatsworth, are coming out on March 17th; a week later Gundam Kizuna and Sunday x Magazine Shuuketsu come out.  Not sold on the two imports yet, but the other three I'm picking up next week.

GTA doesnt work on any carts but it works on emulator. It uses a special save type that carts dont support

One thing that this game needs is a friend list like Liberation. You can browse through servers and game types in multiplayer, but it could use friend invites, etc. Multiplayer is solid though

When I changed movement from the d-pad to the buttons, the game actually became fun and challenging and stopped playing itself.  Still controls a little assy for movement and I wish you had a run button to move even faster, but it's solid enough that I think I'll stick with it.

Though personally I don't think FPS/TPS should exist on the psp.  Even the workarounds are just not fluid enough.  PSP2 needs dual-analogue so it can get these type of games.

I'm enjoying this so far.  I don't know how far I'm into it but they just started introducing enemies / weapons from Resistance 2.  Even though I'm not a fan of Resistance 2, I think it's cool how this game is set between the two PS3 Resistance games and has the new equipment and enemies show up after a certain point.

The main character is like the most American British guy ever and yells out shit like "I'M JAMES GRAYSON, BITCHES" (this is an actual quote from the game) during combat.  He's also racist as fuck and beats up French people, or "frogs" just because.  Every situation so far is everyone else dying or running away with the main character going "I guess it's up to me."

I just got to the "I'm James Grayson, Bitches!" line  :lol :lol :lol
The dialogue is so cheezy bad, but whoever wrote it must have had a lot of fun.

Also this is GoTY2009 for me so far.  The combat is really really satisfying.  It shows how much Insomniac fucked up with R2, which was not very fun compared to this.  Having a variety of weapons to use and making a strategy of what to use when to conserve ammo and make it through barrages of enemies >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 2 weapons that are always the best for everything.

Yeah, I think this is MUCH MUCH better than Resistance 2.  It even has a pretty good soundtrack (something Insomniac has never managed).  It's pretty amazing looking for a PSP title as well.  I still can't figure out how they pulled off certain aspects of the visuals on a system like this.  Makes me wonder how much more could have been achieved with older platforms like the Dreamcast had developers really given it their best shot (while having familiarity with modern graphics techniques).

Yeah, I swear the game almost looks as good as MGS2 at times.  It definitely looks far superior to any PS1 game and I'd always figured PSP = PS1 power level.  The fire and water effects are great.

The weapons in here are awesome.  I think this is the best set of weapons in a shooter since Halo for sure.  I love what they did with the Razor where you hold L and release a ball of bullets that bounces around killing everyone.  The Auger is still incredibly fun and the slow-motion sniper rifle is pretty kickass.  The stop and start rockets are pretty neat too.  I'd always though Resistance had excellent weapons, but I feel they've been improved upon even further here and I hope Insomniac uses them for R3.  Much better than the stupid spinner blade weapon from R2.

It looks good, but nowhere near MGS2.  Definitely better than most Dreamcast games, though.

Resistance sounds really good for a free game.  Thanks, Sony, for continuing to make great freeware for the PSP!

 ???
Most PSP 1st gen games already looked way better than PS1 games.  Even on the small screen, it was apparent that the PSP was pumping out more geometry and effects than the PS1 ever did.

Also, did you not play God of War PSP?  GOW clearly couldn't have been done on the PS1.

Yeah GoW looked pretty nice too.  I guess PSP can be like PS1.5 at times.

If they can pull this stuff off with PSP1, it doesn't seem that unlikely that PSP2 could be PS2 level graphics, which would be awesome.

PSP seems more like PS1.75 to me.  The specs certainly look much closer to PS2 than PS1.

Yeah, the PSP has always struck me as PS2 class hardware with a few additional limitations.  Even the DS outclasses PSX hardware.  I think it's easy to forget just how shitty most PSX games really look (the 3D games).  Right from the start games like Ridge Racers and Wipeout Pure were displaying visuals the PSX could only dream of.

Finished this up today.  Quite a good game.  The challenge level was pretty high, but then R1 was tough too so I guess they were just keeping in tradition.  Still, they gave you enough firepower that it always felt like you had a chance to get through any situation.  Sometimes you really depended on the chaingun/auger shields when there was no cover.  One time I had an auger shield up and a titan lanched a rocket from right outside it and blew himself up, lol.

Story was ok.  Grayson was far more likable than Hale.  I didn't like that

in the post-end he's infected, because I would've liked to have him as the lead for R3

I think the auto-aim worked really well and made the controls very playable.  The only parts where it sometimes failed was when the spider things are rushing you and it isn't always targetting the nearest one.

The boss fights were ok.  I think they gave them a little too much life sometimes like the burrower.  The

Mallery boss fight was good

The mech parts were actually really solid.  Better than the mech part in the Fear 2 demo.  Graphically I really liked the hud when in the mech and in the final mech level with the snow blowing and giant battles it was really impressive.  In fact, the final mech level is probably the most epic scale battle I've ever had on a handheld system.  It was something I'd expect out of a PS3/X360 game experience.

Oh and the music and voice acting were great.  The skill points are cool but I wouldn't replay the game.  I wish they had let you see the skill points for the stage you are on while you are on it the first time.

I never played the Syphon Filter PSP games.  But since Sony Bend did such a great job here I think I'll give them a shot sometime soon.  Especially since I'm used to these controls now.
