For a price, sure. This could be an interesting thread: post a CL ad asking for a good looking lady to attend said conferences with you, offer some outrageous sum of money, and start taking applications. Pics included

i don't care what she looks like, i just wish i had a relationship with someone so we could have a romantic getaway, instead of the lonely getaway that i will in fact end up having

NUMBER ONE: Stop being a fucking bitch and going, "Oh, I could only like a girl who is into Hungarian chamber music". Fuck you. It's fun to be with other people because they're different. My wife hates metal and video games- I love both of those things. But there are 10 million reasons why we get along. Using this "WELL THAT PRETTY GIRL DOESN"T LIKE HEGEL SO WE COULD NEVER BE HAPPY" is just a bitch ass little excuse. Keep that shit up and you won't have a girl to take to fuckin' Steak 'n Shake, let alone Scotland.

uh lost track of context much?  if I'm looking for a date to a specific event, it would make sense to my hypothetical date to be herself interested in the subject of the event, no?  why would I want to drag her somewhere she'd be bored?

the whole thing is a fantasy anyway -- it will be tough enough to cover a two week int'l vacation for myself, never mind throwing in someone else's expenses (or expecting them to pay themselves when they probably wouldn't care as much as I do)

Everyone appreciates sight seeing of a foreign country. It's not like you'd drag her into the conferences with you.

It's an international music and performing arts festival.  The ICFP is my thing, sure.

Another important difference is that video games and metal are dumb, so of course it's no big deal if someone doesn't like them.  I mean, I like video games too, but I recognize that they're dumb.

So get one. Whats the problem here?  Ugly? Bad conversationalist?  Scared?
I have alot of fun flirting at work and alot of the girls get all giggly over the corniest things I say. If I had the abilities to hold a conversation past two minutes before losing interest I'd daresay its incredibly easy to hook up with someone (although the pretty ones usually have guys already).  Too many people treat it like a game but I find being forward gets great results.  Like, you can even detail your insecurities in a lighthearted manner and they think its adorable.

The fantasy remark referred to the romantic angle.  While it's true that I've sometimes had problems stemming from lack of initiative, I did attend last year's ICFP in Victoria.  The Edinburgh events are likely to cost at least twice as much, though, so money is a real concern.  I don't think it's a matter of initiative, just a genuinely difficult decision that shouldn't be made lightly.  You're a bit quick to lay your prefab generic lectures on people.

"If she is really looking for her life partner then I would advise her to keep in mind that women fall in love with their ears and men with their eyes. So if a guy sleeps with her the first night, then he probably won't marry her," Guzy said.

when i fall in love with ears/eyes i generally just extract the organ in question and don't bother with the rest of the girl.

I stumbled upon this thread on an unrelated search for "Hungarian". I actually have no memory of posting the above, but I like it. Would post again.
