I just saw a car crash
« on: March 24, 2009, 03:38:35 AM »
I was walking to my car and heard this car come around a corner behind me with tyres squealing.  They went past me and stopped at the next intersection, then this fucking tool decided to plant it while making a right turn up ahead of where I was walking.  I saw the car go around the corner with the inside wheel spinning, getting quite an angle.  Then I lost sight of it and heard the crash.

By the time I reached the scene there were quite a few people and cop luckily drove past.  It had obviously whipped back around and gone through a row of end-to-end parked cars on the left of the road, knocking the back of one up right up onto the footpath, then it went through a fence, and came to rest a few metres into a bowling green.

I'd like to take joy out of seeing someone get what they deserved, but that parked car got ruined, and worst of all I think they had a little kid in the car, who I think was OK as someone was holding her.  I did see an ambulance turn up though.  Thank goodness there weren't people on that footpath or the bowling green.

The world would be better off if some people just never existed to begin with.

Some years back, I was driving with a co-worker and we approached an intersection that had an "invisible" no turn on red sign.  I turned right at the light, and found myself in a line of cars being ushered into a nearby parking lot by the cops.  Clearly I wasn't the only one who never saw the sign; the stores in the parking lot were closed, but it was packed with cars and cops ticketing them.  The cop talking to me was a very friendly chap who even offered to show me where the sign (my co-worker had never seen it either) was, but I didn't care and hoped that this guy would be so nice he'd let me off with a warning.  No dice, of course.

The line of cars on the street was still there as this was going on.  More people were doing the same thing and getting caught in this trap.  The cop then started telling me about why people need to be safer drivers and be on the look out for signs, and right as he said "or else you might have an accid--," a car comes flying around the corner and slams into the back of the last car in line on the street.  (No one was hurt.)  I couldn't stop laughing afterwards.

Incidentally, when I came back to Atlanta after living abroad for a few years, the sign had been moved to a very visible spot right next to the traffic light.

I was driving back to my parent's place one day, and to get there I cross this bridge, and once you cross it you start going uphill before coming to a light. Now, where this particular bridge ends is the beginning of the hill, and that section is briefly marked with a dotted line. So, of course, passing is legal here.

Well, on this particular day, I'm just across the bridge, when a car that is just in front of the minivan that is in front of me decides he wants to pass in the left/oncoming traffic lane. Which would be fine, except that his car was older, he was traveling uphill, and there was oncoming traffic.

So, I witnessed a head-on collision two cars in front of me.

All parties were taken away in ambulances. I stuck around to give the officer my account of the event. This felt utterly useless in hindsight. I wouldn't recommend anyone feel obligated to do the same if they find themselves in a similar situation.

I saw, on at least two occasions, an old guy driving the wrong way. Neither one crashed, surprisingly...

This accident actually happened on a one-way road, and right next to me I saw one person considering going the wrong way just to avoid the accident scene, despite the volume of traffic coming towards them.

and right as he said "or else you might have an accid--," a car comes flying around the corner and slams into the back of the last car in line on the street.  (No one was hurt.)  I couldn't stop laughing afterwards.

:lol Cops can be such bastards though.  Obviously the sign wasn't properly visible.

All parties were taken away in ambulances. I stuck around to give the officer my account of the event. This felt utterly useless in hindsight. I wouldn't recommend anyone feel obligated to do the same if they find themselves in a similar situation.

I guess giving an account is more useful when there's nobody else around.

I once was driving on the middle lane of a three-lane road and saw in my rear view mirror s car weave from the far left lane across my lane and into a far right turning lane at speed.  It was only when the dickhead reached the right lane that he realised it was full of cars and smashed into the back of another car right outside the window of my car.  It was pretty spectacular.

I saw a bus run over an old woman who was crossing the street

I don't think she died but she's probably not much for walking these days

My friends were on a school bus that ran over a dog once. They looked out the back window and it had been split in half. :(

Ecro and I witnessed an accident on Friday. We were in our friend's car talking to her, and some jeep whips around this corner and sideswipes a parked car. Someone was in the parked car, so they chased the jeep and cut them off, then they were fighting and stuff. I made Ecro call 911.

Also, I was going to my college a few years ago and saw one car rear-end another car. I stuck around to give a statement but no one ever called me about it.

Poor dog. :(

I just found out via the newspaper that the accident I witnessed had a 17 year old unlicensed girl driving, and she had her 3 year old sister in the car with her.  SMH.

When her mother turned up the daughter told her that "the gearbox blew up as I was going around the corner".  SMH.

I feel sorry for the person who's car got destroyed, obviously insurance isn't going to cover this so they're going to have to pursue the girl to pay for the repairs.

I guess giving an account is more useful when there's nobody else around.

That's true, but when there's a car on the wrong side of the road that's collided with a car on the correct side of the road, I don't know how much more needs to be explained.

But what I meant to convey was that the officer was like "oh, you want to write up a statement? *sigh* fine, I guess." He just didn't seem to care, which made me feel like I had wasted my time waiting to do what I thought would be the helpful thing.

I saw one dude riding a bike on the shoulder of a highway get creamed by a semi once. He didn't make it.

Saw someone on a motorcycle rear end the back of another car that was stopped at a red light. I looked behind me just in time to see the dude flip over the car.

Another time my Mom and I were driving down this 2 lane road, this car full of black girls turns right to get on the road ahead of us a little but there were other cars coming the opposite way. Not close enough to hit them, but close enough that they had to slow down quite a bit. Well, the first car slowed down enough but some dumbass in a little white truck behind that car decided he didn't want to wait so he zips over into our lane to pass that car thinking they were just going to turn and bam hits the car full of girls almost head on. They all seemed fine, although 2 were lying on grass holding their necks and an older woman, their Mom I guess, was understandably upset and was screaming at the dude in the truck, who had pulled quite a bit off the road and refused to even get out of his truck.

An idiot in front of me this morning veered off into the wrong lane for a solid ten seconds while climbing a hill.  I almost had something good to post in this thread.
