So another MGS game....
« on: March 26, 2009, 05:07:57 PM »
At Kojima's panel he sorta announced that he's working on the next MGS game I guess.

Even though I didn't like MGS4 that much, I think I'm ok with this because it seems like the team struggled A LOT at getting their ideas working within the limits of the PS3 tech that they thought was going to be way better technology.  So now that the team knows the hardware and especially if the team isn't limited to FINISHING THE [totally convoluted] MGS STORY like they were in 4, a fresh MGS game could be a return to the quality of MGS3.

I guess we'll see some sort of non-game footage teaser at E3 along with maybe the Substance version of MGS4 for X360/PS3.

Do people even believe him anymore?  He's been saying this since MGS2.  He needs to stfu about it already.  It's almost as he's ashamed about working on a new MGS game.

i really wish he would just get the message and cut down DRASTICALLY on the amount of cutscenes in the game.  i'm sure he (or someone at konami) realizes this because of the embargo bs with mgs4, but i guess we'll see what happens as we get more info.

will buy day one regardless because i like the abuse

I agree.  I'm tired of the cutscenes.  RE5 felt like fresh air when it came to the cut scene pacing--nice and short.

It not an article.  It's his GDC keynote, which just ended.  No MGS4 for 360 announced for those who care.  Only a new PS3 installment of the MGS series.

This is not at all surprising and yet completely awesome news.

Also, remake the first two MSX Metal Gear games.

Kojima probably feels the need to take another crack at the series since he just took the crown of "Worst MGS" from Dyack.

If this is true, it likely has the chance of reaching the heights of MGS3 for the reasons bebpo stated.  I think they could really do something incredible.

MGS3, I thought, had the perfect mix of cutscenes and gameplay.  It still had plenty of cutscenes at points (for the fans), but never flooded the player with them (until the very end).  MGS4 was just too heavy on the cutscenes for me, which I did not expect.

MGS3 was great. I imagine Koji-Pro can do so much with this MGS4 engine. MGS5 could really be amazing, especially after the feedback they received from their last installment.

P.S

Konami needs to rein in Kojima and stop his patriotic tendencies from interfering with making money.  It makes no sense to make another exclusive for a platform that not only has the smallest userbase but is also the hardest to program for.

Kojima claims it's not about console wars for him and he wished that he had made MGS4 for the PC instead.  I'll like to see him put his money where his mouth is and make the next MGS for all the consoles and the PC.

I thought the first 1/2 to 2/3 of MGS4 was awesome, but then it got weird.

I'd actually like a Raiden prequel set between MGS2 and MGS4...

I don't get the sudden love for Raiden.  He's still a dork.  Mouth sword?   ::)

Portable OPs was ruined by the PSP's inherently terrible controls.  People laugh at the notion of using a PS3 controller to play a PSP game but I could see myself doing that for MGS:PO.

btw, I'm sure it'll be X360/PS3.  There's really no reason to do another exclusive at this point.  Though it might be that the team concentrates on 1 system (since that's what Kojima likes to do) and outsources porting it to the other system.

Why would you want to play the game with classic MGS controls eh? MGS 4 controls are SO SO much better then all the previous games. Play the game for more then a hour, you'll get used to it.

MGS4 was just too heavy on the cutscenes for me, which I did not expect.

MGS4's problems (outside of where he went with the plot) were:
-Too many cutscenes that were too long
-Act 3 first half was nice and different but there needed to be a shortcut way to skip it on replays because it's boring after the first time
-Act 4 was cute for nostalgia but having 1/5th the game with NO ENEMIES was terrible
-Act 5 was great but it was 1 room long

It's too bad because the first 2 acts are excellent and very much "next-gen" MGS.

Is there a way to play MGS4 with classic MGS controls? Because MGS4's suck.

I have had the game since like December and have not played it for more than an hour.

The controls are pretty good....just play the game already.

They are not better than classic controls.

With classic MGS I could actually crouch in a locker. You can't do that shit in MGS4 it seems. You just stand there, making lockers a pointless hiding spot because guards always flash lights in the vents.

Having shooting on R1 is stupid. I'd rather play with old MGS controls than that crap.

recursive - i had heard that too.  it's just that, as many people have been saying since way back when mgs1 came out, dude reeeally needs an editor.  there is no reason why a scene were two guys sit on a plane and say "now let's go here to get the bad guy" should be 20+ minutes long.
