This is some serious shit, MMaRsu, and I want to warn anyone else that might have gotten a message on XBL from him (or someone who might have stolen HIS account) NOT to go to the website provided that claims you can get 1600 points for free.

I'm a fucking distinguished mentally-challenged fellow and didn't realize I was signing my passport info into what wasn't Microsoft's site; they got my info and my account has been hijacked and already recovered on someone else's console. MS has acted fast and put a hold on the account after several transactions were made for XBL points. Not worried about the money lost since I use AMEX and they won't give me shit about a claim, but MS said they're going to give me a refund anyway.

So no Live for me for a little while. :/

"Why?" isn't really the first thing you think of when you see the word "FREE" next to something you actually want, and getting spam mail via XBL not being the norm, this is pretty easy to fall for.

Yes, I am. Was absolutely not thinking straight, guys. It just didn't hit me, and I didn't even think the info went through-- I couldn't remember which e-mail address I used and they probably got it after I put the right one in. $:-\$ The site also took me to the REAL XBox Live site afterwards. It's weird because I'd NEVER do this if I got an e-mail and would NEVER give out personal info otherwise-- I just thought I was putting in XBL gamertag info was all. Glad I have nothing else tied to that passport account. I feel even worse because I just recently started taking IT classes, and this is the exact kind of shit the teachers have talked about in regards to security. I need to be slapped hard.

I am distinguished mentally-challenged. I'll take my punishment and only play the Wii from now on guys.

Going to get my credit card off my account when this is over, too. Will just buy points from Amazon only.

Sounds like they stole MMarsu's account just the same way they stole yours, he probably got a message from a friend and entered his info on that site too. How many friends did he have on Live, imagine if they all got the same message like you and went to that site.

Anyway, I hope he isn't doing this on purpose, otherwise, what a douchebag. Feel like kicking him in the nuts.

I use my 360 and MacBook on the same monitor and quickly switched to that site to try it while checking out the game I just bought today and waiting for some DLC to finish downloading. Was on there for like 10 seconds.

Hey man, first thing I did after I figured it was a spam site I changed my email adress and sent my friends an excuse message. I just saw your post on GAF and figured I'd head over here straight away to send you a PM.

I am NOT part of this scam, as I fell for the same thing. A very good friend of mine also fell for it, and it sends that message to everybody on your friends list. Since he's a good friend of mine I didn't think to much of it, my guard was down and I filled in my adress. After it didn't work ( no free points ofcourse ) I changed my password straight away.

After that I started getting messages that it was a scam site and I sent all my XBL friends an excuse message.

Dude I'm so sorry that I got you and any other people on my friends list involved in this shit, because that's not why I added people on my friends list.

I am really fucking sorry that this shit happened. My guard was down and I logged into that site myself, it sent a message to all my friends with the same shit and some other people fell for it too I guess.

They probably didn't hack my account fast enough cause I changed my password pretty quickly, but still this is majorly fucked up. I'm a genuine nice guy, and anyone who has played with me on XBL or talked with me can probably acknowledge that. Still this sucks, I totally blame myself.

This morning I got the same message from Lyte, and my first thought is "Why wouldn't he just stick to putting the link on the forums?" Also, anytime I hear "Hurry, they're going fast!" I become suspect of why someone's pushing me to move.

I loaded the site onto my netbook and looked; there's a cheesy, tiled Xbox 360 logo, a nonstandard MS Live login box, and NO TEXT or anything explaining about what kind of promotion is giving away teh free moneyz. The whole page is on regular http protocol (not https) but even xbox.com does that by default.

Anyway, unless you see a full-on MS live verification of some kind, there's no way you should ever be putting your username/pwd in ANYWHERE other than an official MS site. I cannot fucking believe ANYONE fell for this.

I got my account back last night!

MS really came through. Not only did I get everything back fine, but they also gave me 13 months of Gold free, let me keep the 7000+ points charged on my credit card for free, and the asshole who had my account went and bought Peggle on it, so I got that for free too.

That's some awesome customer service!

I re-sent friend requests (the guy who got my info deleted my entire list) to a bunch of people; add me if you didn't get one!
