The new trailer for 300. Released this week. Let's see how it fares. Got it from gaf.

Doesn't make sense. Also some of the dialogue is pretty overacted, in a bad way. The "THIS IS SPARTA" yell when he kicks that guy is just stupid.

Overall I loved all the new stuff I saw in this trailer, as well as the opening music. KILLER

I definitely see where MAF is coming from here. Some of the acting in the trailer is beyond forced. I loved Sin City because most of the acting seemed cheesy enough for a comic movie but not cheesy enough to be Batman Forever. Most of the preformaces are on point, as is the dialogue. But then even in that movie you have Mark Maden, who's preformance was so utterly bad I remember thinking the movie was going to suck lol.

300 needs to find a balance. As movies like Spartacus have proven, you can make an old world epic without terribly over the top preformances

Sin City had WAY better writing than this movie.

Its like they saw the inspirational shit from braveheart/gladiator/ fuck..I dunno, Black Hawk Down, and condensed all that crap that makes dumb people think outside of their little box for half a second, then transmogrified it into a script of some sort.

Yes they both were. The problem isnt so much with the writing, as the dialogue itself, while campy as shit, is passable. The problem is with the acting. I could take this a bit more serious if Butler wasnt trying to secure his Razzie.

I dunno. I just see too many movies in recent trying to be cool. Now, if you make a movie and its naturally cool, then good for you. A cool cat is you. But when I see all these previews for movies that just scream "look at me, I am so bad and self-aware of it, isnt that cool?", I lose a bit more faith in modern day filmmakers.

For example:
- The Departed. A cool movie, and totally effortless in being so. Martin Scorsese is just a bad ass mother fucker.
- 300. A bunch of overracting screamers in tighty-whiteys spouting of cheese while fighting in slow-mo, in a movie sure to be filled with money shots, over-the-top action and violence, and probably some gratuitous titties, from the director of Dawn of The Dead remake. Not so cool. It sure looks purdy, though... leave this sort of territory for a Verhoeven.
