the big plot reveal at the end of the game is almost as hilarious as FEAR 2.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Your missing wife, the reason you accepted this mission, turns out to be your arm you've been using for the last 15 years.  His wife is literally his arm.  She was killed and put into a robotic arm.  So, she decides that it's a good idea to KILL HERSELF so that you won't live life without your left arm after you lost it in a battle.

That's sad, but between this whiffed Bionic Commando update, the Wanted game with good mechanics and no need to use them, and by most counts a wretched Terminator game, GRIN has managed three strikes in a very short period.

They should have become the next backbone but actually good and done lots and lots of 2.5d remakes with a small staff and profit.

The ironic thing is that one of the Swedish news channels recently ran a special on GRIN, where GRIN talked about there being shortage of qualified personnel in Sweden.

Wanted and Terminator are just those kind of cheap ass budget games that you don't wanna see on your HD console. These guys work on 3 projects at the same time, and then shit like wanted and Terminator gets out.

They are both 4 hour games....

So I played this for a few hours and got to the part past where you get the rocket launcher to take out the helis.

When it works about 70% of the time, it's a fun action game with lots of swinging.  The other 30% is when the game feels soooooo unpolished.  The combat is ok but really shouldn't be in there, the giant cities are cool to swing through but the fake non-linearness just makes it hard to find the linear path they want you to take at times (doesn't help that the radiation isn't always the most visible), and the swing mechanics are glitchy as hell.  I appreciate that the game doesn't auto swing/platform for you, but full 100% manual doesn't work either a lot of the time.  A slight auto-correction could've done wonders.  I hate how if you are GOOD the game punishes you for being TOO GOOD because you'll swing jump so well you'll overshoot the next target and thus interrupt your speed swinging flow of flying through the level.  Still, when it works and you are going from object to object it's great fun.

The graphics are kind of blah but the music is awesome just like rearmed.  I don't mind the checkpoint system though re-hearing the dialogue each time gets kinda old.  I love the mini-challenges everywhere, though this is one of the few exploration games where I don't think I'd go for 100% emblem collection because the scope of the stages are just sooooo big that searching the entire area while knowing if you fall inbetween your count is reset is....not for me.

The only part that made me almost want to stop playing was the sniper level with snipers EVERYWHERE and water below.  When I first grabbed the sniper rifle I had like 7 sniper aims on me shooting me and I had to find some little spot where I could hide and pop out and take them out one at a time.

Otherwise the pacing has been good and the game is enjoyable despite it's flaws.  I don't think it's another GunValkyrie type misunderstood classic though.  GV and those types of games have absolutely perfect controls and are just misunderstood because of the challenge or repetition.  BC is fucking gliiiitchy!

I liked this because it was quite run and gun. No cover shit, even though you had too occasionally hide behind a wall or a giant rock to recover health. Very shoot em up.

The early city levels are about as bland looking as can be, but some of the areas are really gorgeous -- the caves and especially the woods.

Ok, I'm about 50% through and I really like this game.  Shame it bombed.  I don't enjoy the combat much, but I do really enjoy the swinging and I've grown to love the bit-sized piece levels as it feels really arcadey in a good way.  Action packed and to the point.

Will buy when it drops to $20 new.  No point in buying now since GRIN is dead anyhow.

Wow, I'm 75% in and this game is really good.  I love how the trophies/acheivements actually unlock character/weapon upgrades; this gives a great incentive to do them all.

Quick question:  After you beat it can you skip to any area and grab the collectables?  Cause if you can't and you have to redo the entire game and get all the collectables area by area without missing a single one...damn, that would be torture.  If you can just pop in here and there and grab them it'd be fun.

Also how do you do adrenaline finishers on biomechs?  I did one on accident (thankfully since it gave me the medium armor upgrade) but I have no idea how.

I could see myself replaying this and maybe going for the collectables/remaining trophies so I kind of want to buy it but I missed the target clearance of it for $15, the gamestop clearance of it for $20, and the best deal I can find is $28 after tax at Best Buy since it's a red sticker 50% off game.  Don't really want to pay $28 but I guess I might have to since it's disappearing from all the stores at this point :X

No, you have to replay the entire game and get all collectables in a single play. The same goes for the challenges.

Wow that is super distinguished mentally-challenged.  Seems strange for Grin because otherwise they seem to know what's up with game design between this and Rearmed.  Well doubt I'll replay it but it's a good enough game to own; the soundtrack is amazing too.  Turns out it was actually $20 at Best Buy and I had some reward certificates around so I picked it up for $11 when I got dinner.

Since I like Rearmed and BC, I wonder if I should rent Wanted & Terminator.  The reviews sound pretty shit for those, but then again they were shit for BC and it's a better SP campaign than Lost Planet so far.

Ok, finished it.  Overall I thought it was a great action game.  The core swinging mechanics were a lot of fun and the combat was mostly alright though it was broken as hell since grab w/arm -> throw instant killed any grunt and took out others as well.  I liked the robot dudes with different patterns though the snipers could have been dropped all together.

The mini-games were GORGEOUS LOOKING and fun (jet part, final boss); would have liked to see more of them to give more variety between swinging -> stop kill everyone -> swinging -> repeat.  I do like that in about half the firefights you can just swing through them and avoid them altogether.

The weapons were cool and the weapon specific challenges and challenges in general kept the combat fresh since were always playing different to unlock that achievement/trophy and get a character upgrade.

Length was pretty good; must've been about 9-10 hours.  Story was lol, but it never got in the way.  I liked that it was told mainly through dialogue while you were just playing the level.  Not watching cutscenes ftw.

Once you got out of the starting city the graphics were good and sometimes REALLY GOOD.  The art direction is real nice.  The one part where you swing out of the caves through dual waterfalls to trees with the sun glare in your eyes is stunning.  The final boss part is amazing looking and other parts were striking as well.  I really didn't like the effect of blurring all the textures until you STOP and focus for a 1/2 second.  The game looks good, so blurring stuff out of focus kinda detracts.

The music is awesome.  Soooo good.  Very heroic.

Now the problems I had:
-I had read the game was challenging/difficult/frustrating.  I actually don't think it is 85% of the time.  Especially since it's so easy to kill enemies with throwing things around and the swinging is easy since even if you mess up there's usually SOMETHING to grab to pull yourself back together without falling.  That being said there were a few parts that got me cursing and very mad:
1) WORM BOSS; first of all it has way too much HP, 2nd of all when it did the shockwave parts in the 2nd half sometimes when I jumped I would RANDOMLY STUMBLE upon landing which delayed my 2nd jump causing me to get hit and then because of the timing you get hit again and die then have to do the entire first part of the boss again.  Luckily on my 3rd attempt I found the cheat where you just hang on the trees during the shockwave part and skip it entirely.  Although then I killed the worm and he fell in the middle and by the time I got there he woke back up and recovered 30% of his life back....@_@
2) Sniper part early on (not first part, but 2nd with 8-10 snipers on you at once) was annoying.
3) The Oil Rig level just sucked in terms of combat.  Fighting two hadouken throwing robots while being shot at by snipers and every type of normal grunt is a bit overkill.  Ended up just going straight for the snipers and taking them out first, then get away from the normal grunts and take out the two robots and then leaving
Then there were just a few times where I wasn't sure where it wanted me to swing, so I swing to the wrong place and die from radiation and my last checkpoint is far, far, far ago and I have to redo all the combat again.
Otherwise the difficulty seemed good.

-Then it's just the stupid way they handled achievements/collectables.  Not being able to jump to any level and get the ones you are missing is so dumb.  Not being able to have multiple saves to get the combat ones without redoing the entire game is dumb too.  I love collecting useless crap in games that is hard to get.  I really wanted to try to get all the collectables.  But I wasn't going to scour every area bit by bit to make sure I get them all and meanwhile everytime I die I have to do it all again.  That would ruin the pacing of the game.  Another way they could have made collectables fun would be to give achievements like Batman; 10%, 20%, 50%, etc... then even if you're not going to get them all, at least you have an incentive to grab the ones you find along the way.  The whole "all or nothing" achievement/trophy for collectables is terrible without being able to use level select.

-The loading when you die.  I dunno how it is on X360 when installed, but on PS3 after you die it takes about 20 seconds to load the area again.  Even though I think the difficulty is fine, I died A LOT at parts in BC and I was fine with that cause I'd just keep trying and try different strategies and win.  But the 20 second load between each 1 min attempt (since you die VERY QUICKLY) was annoying.

Still those aren't a lot of complaints to a good playing, good looking, good length action title.  With a some better decisions, dev time BC seems like a game that could've been an AAA action title this gen.  As it is, it's a good action game with flaws.  I'd say it's better than Lost Planet and I like LP :P

PS.  The final boss part makes me wish sooo much for an HD ZoE
