Lego games are good times, anyone who disagrees can eat a dick. Of course they have admittedly saturated the market with them lately...

I wouldn't mind saturation, but is there any innovation in them at all? It seems like the mechanics haven't changed since they added vehicle stages to the second Star Wars one.

You should try the Harry Potter one then, it's much more enjoyable because there's very little combat and it's mainly puzzle solving. What little combat there is pretty basic too, just shoot your wand at something or use Leviosa (force push) to throw something back.

As a massive Star Wars nerd didn't find the second game fun at all, but I love this one, it's really charming in a way Pirates or Indiana Jones can't be.

Plus in the final bonus level you can drive around London in a black cab as Voldemort :rock

I might, just. It's always good to have a game I can play in front of the kids without a whore being run over for cash or blood splatters on the screen.

i've been playing more dragon quest monster joker 2 and it's starting to somewhat clicking with me... it's like playing the pokeyman but....

- there is not that annoying screechy music courtesy of game freak
- the mon are different enough (you got the healer, the supporter, the one who put the hurts, the status effecter) without resorting to any elemental rock/paper/scissor shit
- having a party of 3 means it takes some effort to organize and also makes for more complicated battles than "i'm just going to use my best attack over and over"
- i've been complaining about a monster requiring level 10 to fuse and the resulting monster starting at level 1 but actualy bringing them to that point and leveling up a new fused monster is not hard since all the monsters in your box magicaly gain XP,and they simply stop leveling that much upon reaching level 20 something,so in that regard is kinda like shin megami tensei, where fusing and recruiting to get better monster is more important than just having tons of level

current party is made of this guy here

who hits hard and is fast, this guy here

who also hits hard but is not as fast and last

who has buffing abilities and spend most of his time casting "oomph" which make recruiting new monsters a lot easier since your chance of recruiting one depend on your damage upon normal attack
one of the three sometimes get swapped for this guy,who can heal cheaply and most importantly can made stuff ASSPLODE

oh and for the joy of himuro... jailcat is in though he's kinda sucky and all he does is casting crack

So Devil Survivor 2 is probably the hardest megaten (or megaten-spinoff) in some time.  Everyone said DS1 was hard, but I thought it was fairly easy as long as you kept those +7 move demons on everyone so you could get around the map quick.  The final day boss rush was tough, but everything else was manageable.

So in turn they decided to really amp up the difficulty in DS2.  Again, it's mostly manageable and often easy if you keep +7 move demons on you, but from Day 4 onward, the boss of each day has been like I AM WALL, YOU DIE.  Day 4/5 bosses have made me get totally owned and then spend hours figuring out good strategies and making good teams to beat them.  If the remaining major bosses (end of days, final boss rush) keep this up, it's going to be pretty freaking challenging for the 2nd half of the game.

It's funny because DS1 got easier in the 2nd half (outside final boss rush) when you had access to better skills.  But yeah, DS2's first half was no problem and so far the 2nd half seems Nocturne++-ish brutal.

kind of refreshing and can't say I dislike it.  Forcing me to actually create good strategies instead of brute forcing it is very satisfying even if it's time consuming when I don't really have the time to be consumed.

Red Faction: Guerrilla continues, took Pro Time in all the Demolition Master activities.

I'm at 10/18 for the Transporter mission Pro Times; I just barely made the longest one in the game, 10:00 completion, 08:00 Pro Time, and I squeaked in at 07:55. They're pretty fun; they were just frustrating when I thought they could just be cleared by driving well on the auto-mapped path, but they actually require plenty of shortcuts.  :-[

Between this game and Saints Row 1&2, I'm declaring Volition winner of the Open World Game, even though RDR is one of my favoritest games evar.

Started playing League of Legends with a couple friends of mine. We're mostly doing 3v3s (Talon/Ashe/Lee Sin) and the game's pretty fun so far. I think I'm starting to prefer DOTA games over RTS actually.

either i'm doing something incredibly wrong or incredibly right... to be fair the game can get a little monotonous,it's the reason i don't get why mon game are so popular to begin with (the joy of getting your ass kicked by the kid who played 300 hours to get every perfect mon i guess?) at least you don't get interrupted every 5 seconds by zubats and random stranger who like your shoes and have a team of 3 rattata

League of Legends is terrible if you're not playing with a full team of people you know. 70% of the time you get a distinguished mentally-challenged fellow who is always disconnecting or quits early. Pretty much every game ends as a 2v3.

The transporter missions are pretty bad. As you said you can't just drive well and make them, and usually one mistake or accident will ruin your time.

although I'm not a fan of Splinter Cell Conviction, it can be fun and the game has a lot of content. I didn't notice until now that the challenge mode changes up enemy patrols each time.

one day I need to do the co-op stuff in it and Portal 2

Yeah, they are ass-clenchingly tense. I'm not sure I'll get through them all, but I've been doing pretty well so far. I did the calculation on my cross-map PRO-TIME, and it worked out that I made with just over 1% clearance.

There was another one where, swear to god, you have to drive straight up a wall in Eos. It's the lightest car in the game, and its wonky physics actually allow it, but the car nearly stalls out while clearing the top lip. One bit of advice was to put a Remote Charge on the back of your car, and detonate it just as the car gets vertical. :lol

There's another with that car in Oasis where I was missing it by one second, so I just hit a rock at top speed prior to the last corner, soared over the safehouse; cleared it with 4 seconds. I was seriously ready to try anything with that one.

Burnout Crash seems pretty good.  It has that addicting Crash mode gameplay and the NFS HP autolog and lots of skill targets and unlockables.  Definitely has that ONE MORE TIME feel.

It's a little zany and there's a bit too much randomness, but it seems good fun like everything Criterion touches that has to do with cars.

Yeah, came out today on PSN guessing XBLA tomorrow.

It's not a replacement for a proper Burnout or proper Burnout Crash mode, but it's fun and will likely keep you entertained for a week.  If you go for 1000/1000 though it's going to be BALLS FUCKING HARD and probably drive you insane.  Good thing I don't go for achievement/trophy completion!

It's $20, not $30.

I decided to get RE4 on PS3.  The game is over 3GB in size and took a lot longer to download than it probably would have on 360.  Only tried it for a minute since I wanted to play Gears.

GGGGGAAAAAHHHHHH

i thought it was reviewer just being reviewer but persona 2 really has the most awful encounter rate that any rpg had in a while, and here's the real shocker,i think it's worse than the original game, not only that but there is something like 1-2 second loading everytime you enter or exit a battle... how do you screw up something so simple!?!?!?!?!?

it doesn't cut down encounter rate,it literaly stop them (at least if they didn't change that) but of course accessing this spell is not easy at all and you can't certainly do it in the first dungeon

It's the same game, nothing new. Plus load times. Plus a horrid color scheme.

Even the J-Players on GameFAQs (Kouli in particular) say it's wack. You can argue translations, but, I'll stick with tried and true PS1 ver.

Uh, the PS1 version had those loadtimes too. And they were longer...

This has shorter load times, arrange soundtrack (+original ost), portability, ability to skip battle animations, NEW QUESTS/content, and the graphics look better on a smaller screen.

And if you play off a memstick the load times are even shorter.

And Hitler now has sunglasses which automatically make him cooler.

Sony really needs to make a better emulator for PS1 games on the PS3 (and Vita).  epsxe on pc isn't great (tail concerto didn't work.  had to use pSX) but for the games it works with, PS1 games rendered at a higher resolution can look alright.  PS1 games on the PS3 still look like garbage through a vaseline smeared lens.  I don't know all the technical shit but still, apparently the Wii N64 emulator renders games at a higher resolution.

anyway, Syphon Filter 1 has a neat health system.  it's like a lightgun shooter where enemies have a window between spotting and hurting you.  you just have to kill them before your danger meter fills up, and since it's an old ass PS1 game with shitty lock on and d-pad planted free aim, moving around and rolling will reduce the danger meter.

But anyway, I just started a new account because I got another friend of mine to play, so I was hoping we would get matched with lower level people so he can learn the game easier. But it doesn't seem like matchmaking works that way...

I really liked the PS1 Syphon Filter's back then. They mixed things up regularly, gave you a number of things to do so you didn't keep doing the same thing over and over. Aped a lot of the action/spy film cliches which was fun. Had a bunch of weapons. I liked the stealth missions at the Smithsonian or whatever, the train/disco in 2, the opening hotel mission in 3 was pretty great.

The PS2 game was probably an idea that wouldn't have worked until now though which sorta knee-capped the series.

Red Faction:Guerrilla -- I think I'm done for now. Just finished the Pro-Times for all Transporter missions. Also did the Demolition Pro-Times and all 104 Guerrilla missions. The only thing I'm waffling on are the Radio Tags. I've got -NO- desire to go find the remaining 60 or so Ore Crystals, there are 300 total, and I'm just positive I'd get to 299 and be unable to find the last one.

Great game. It should have sold like gangbusters.

I don't know all the technical shit but still, apparently the Wii N64 emulator renders games at a higher resolution.

anyway, Syphon Filter 1 has a neat health system.  it's like a lightgun shooter where enemies have a window between spotting and hurting you.  you just have to kill them before your danger meter fills up, and since it's an old ass PS1 game with shitty lock on and d-pad planted free aim, moving around and rolling will reduce the danger meter.

the original syphon filter is awesome! you should try to pick enemies one on one using the taser, nothing more awesome than deep frying terrorist

Oh man, you played exactly like I did. When I was a kid playing Syphon Filter, I just sniped people with the taser and the way their bodies jiggle and eventually burst into flames made me :rofl

you guys should check out Urban Chaos on the PS2 or Xbox.  It's from Rocksteady (who went on to make Batman Arkham Asylum).  I don't remember if you can set enemies on fire, but you can taser them to death, or use your riot shield to beat them down, or slice them up with hatchets.  You play a cop taking out rioters with excessive force.  It came out at the ass end of the PS2/Xbox life cycle and got no attention.

Ever since learning about Rocksteady I've been looking to play Urban Chaos. Will definitely check it out.

i've been trying to get a persona with the "off with the random encounter" skills but doing so means getting more persona, which means getting more tarot card by talking to the demons

TOO BAD IT SEEMS THAT EVERY DEMON HAS THE MOOD OF A WOMEN WITH PMS SYNDROME AND GETS ANGRY AT THE SLIGHEST DROP OF HAT MAKING THE PROCESS TWICE AS ANNOYING AND TIME CONSUMING

seriously fuck this game >:(

You can't get through the game using the default Persona, I didn't buy/merge/whatever a single one with Tarot cards.

Went to the eurogamer expo today, played a few games. PS Vita had the longest queues, followed by Skyrim and BF3 PC. There was shit load of MW3 kiosks, but I didn't play any.

These are what I played there

Kid Icarus 3DS  Aside from the fact that I'm left handed and the games is clearly designed to be played by right handers, I didn't really feel it. Yeah it's a stylus controlled shooter, but I wasn't really taken by any of it. Only played about 5 mins and then went looking for more interesting games to play.

Super Mario 3D Land  This one is tricky. I kept adjusting the 3D effect on and off to see if it makes an actual difference to the gameplay. I came away undecided. The levels, along with camera placement, gives the illusion of "Hey, this would make more sense if I turned the 3D up, just to have a better understanding of my location and surroundings." I can't deny that the game's chase and isometric camera angles make the 3D worth using, but I don't think it helps with the positioning of mario relative to obstacles. However, it does give a better understanding of what's in the foreground because (purposefully) the isometric and chase cameras make it difficult to know whether you're aligned right with obstacles, especially in 2D. And that's just frustrating. I don't want to have to guess if my positioning in the background aligns with a jump I have to make. Didn't come away THAT impressed. The camera angles make the 3D seem like a nice visual aid but also in turn detracts from gameplay by forcing players to guess positioning and jumps. I have an inkling this is the product Nintendo's gonna show off and say, "This why the 3D makes sense!"

Left the 3DS section. There were no lines, but I forgot to check out Resident Evil, and couldn't be arsed to try Mario Kart.

Zelda Skyward Sword  It's only when you get this in your hands that you realise "OMG, everything is controlled by waggle. Everything  :'(". I played around the bird riding tutorial first. Pretty standard. You twist the wiimote to go left and right, and you have 3 boost pips to speed you up along the bottom. Didn't seem that offensive, but I wouldn't want be in flight mode for long periods of time... gets boring fast. Anyway, tried a short section of the demo dungeon from E3 after that. First of all, the combat. It isn't a step up from any previous Zeldas'. Like previous Zeldas, the combat isn't fun, only this time, you have to swing the wiimote either up and down or right/left to actually get a hit on an enemy. When you fell your first goblin you feel a slight twinge of satisfaction that you wouldn't feel when fighting in any of the other 3D Zeldas', but that quickly dissipates once you realise you can't just mash your way through the boring combat this time. You actually have to wait and swing your wiimote in a specific direction to get a hit, somtimes you have to jab, like with the spiders -- "OMG innovation, only possible with Motion ++++. Ninetendo does it again etc etc." *sigh* Then, I played around with the flying beetle item to hit some high up switches and open some doors. Again, twisting the wiimote and pointing it whichever way I want the beetle to go. It was standard Zelda. How much you like this game is dependant on how tolerant you are of 'teh waggle', because it's literally everything to this game.

Dark Souls  My game of the show (of the games I played). Played it on the 360. Loved it. Not sure what else I can say about this.

Tintin  It was good! A nice 2D platformer. But it's really, really easy. Like babby's first platformer, at least the sections I played. I had fun though, it was really smooth.

Ninja Gaiden 3  It felt like Ninja Gaiden. Which is good. I don't think it'll be as good as either of its predecessors'. Sometimes when you are battling an enemy, a 'Y' QTE comes up on screen, you hit it and Ryu finishes the enemy off. There was an awful (but short, thankfully) stealth section in the demo I played--WTF, please no more of that, it was awful. Also I thought the graphics looked worse than NG2, but that might just be me.

Saint's Row 3 Amazing. If they enabled co-op on the show floor this would've beat Dark Souls' as my game of show. Now it has to settle for a very close second. Everything is ratcheted up to 11 in this game. This is everything SR2 was and more. I literally don't know how this can be made better. The perfect SR game. The perfect GTA game. The perfect open world murder simulator.

Binary Domain  I really dug this. I am this close to saying I 'loved' it. I had played Gears 3 horde mode before trying this but that couldn't hold my interest. Binary Domain on the other hand was FUN. This is a definite 'must watch' title. I don't know if it's close to release, but the game was smoooth.

Halo Anniversary  Played a few multiplayer rounds. It's Halo. It's fun. I will buy.

Rage  360 version on floor. framerate is smooth as butter. Looks great. Plays decently.

I didn't get to play much else (I dabbled in a few minutes of FFXIII-2 and MGS HD Collection -- Snake Eater still looks great!). Wanted to play Skyrim, Batman, BF3, Street Fighter X Tekken, maybe dabble with the Vita but I didn't want to queue up. I'd rate the games I played as follows, calculated in terms of enjoyment observed per minute, EOPM

1. Dark Souls -- must buy
2. Saint's Row 3 -- must buy
3. Binary Domain -- keep a very keen eye on it
4. Halo Annv -- buying
5. Rage -- will probably buy
6. SM3DL -- ain't got a 3DS, ain't persuaded me to get one
7. Ninja Gaiden 3 -- will get at budget price
7. Tintin -- eh, it's fun, can wait on it
8. Zelda SS -- was Zelda, all waggle, will skip unless everyone here raves about it

Oh and I got these awesome Johnny Gat/ Zombie Gat bobble budds
