I had forgot how damn distracting is Disgaea.

"I want to rush through the story, no distractions"

"mmm, sure, I could get better weapons, that's fast, let´s see if the council pass more expensive weapons"

"good, law passed, let´s buy weapons and right into the story"

"this weapon is nice, buuut, it could be way better, ok, a fast trip into item world won't hurt me"

"hey, if I'm going to do this, let's transmigate a few characters so I can level them stronger in the process, two birds in one shot"

*three hours later*

Not a single story mission completed. But now I have even more and stronger characters and a shitload of crap in the warehouse.

Evil game.

are you playing disgaea 4 or the original? i spent a shitload of hours on the original! i had this challenge with a guy on whoever would defeat the super secret boss first

anyway i finished the first zone in crackdown and... you know when i says that western game and sandbox game are all the same and i'm like "GO NIPPON"?
games like this are the exact reason i do so... it's not bad but it's so goddamn generic, the music (or should i say the lack thereof),how it looks, how it plays... they just said "let's make a sandbox game!" and that's all they ever did, this game just make me wish i was still playing just cause 2,heck watching a saints row 3 trailer is more exciting than playing this game >:(

on pc... i'm on the last mission of majesty,it's a lot easier than i remember or maybe i just learned to actualy play the game... maybe i should pick dungeon keeper 2 again next,i love the game but i never finished it

Crackdown is generic? What games play like it, besides Prototype and Infamous (both of which came out after CD)? Maybe that Hulk PS2 game but I never played it. You can run at 120 mph, jump 50 feet in the air, and drive transforming vehicles that can also jump 20 feet in the air. Game's awesome.

Crackdown was a lot more special and unique when it came out before 75% of sandbox games currently in existence.

the whole reason i thought i would dig the game in the first place was for the reason you says, but that doesn't change the fact that the main point of the game is "shoot generico-criminal guys in generico-city,cover your ass while your health regenerate when you are hurt" it really doesn't matter that i can jump high and throw cars around after the first "that's cool!" moment (personaly my favourite was spin-kicking a car full of bad guys in a hole like chuck norris would do :smug)

It's rough around the edges sure, but it's still good. Once you realize it isn't trying to knock you out with its surface appeal, there's some game in there.

GTA was never about killing and shooting dudes, it was about how you do it.

Right. GTAIV is about shooting and driving, the two things it does very well. Everything else lacks in comparison. I like your post a lot, but I'm not sure what point you're making. I didn't criticize the mission length in those games, just the awful combat controls. For the record I've played all three PS2 games on PC as well (own them all, even the hardcover-book version of GTA:SA on PC, I made a thread), and while it's great that I can get mouse look, it's obvious the games were designed for controller.

I don't hate the PS2 GTA games, I said right up there "I appreciate the craft". They're incredibly well-made games that can have some great moments, but the actual gameplay mechanics are about as shallow as they get. I can appreciate the non-linear design philosophy that went into those games. I get it, tooling around in a sandbox can be wild fun, but for me personally, I like games with defined goals and rules. Most of the time.

Eh, the whole point of the game IMO is the collectathon of agility orbs and just doing random things to the enemies wandering the streets. It's fun to explore the world because of the agent's super powers. The actual missions are crap, aside from a few of them.

Anyway, got a new Futari BL Original score. 759m. Probably won't bother trying to improve that since I don't like the scoring system in either 1.5 Original or BL Original. Game's very intense (at high rank) though.

Sounds fun! I'm playing the original, I'm going to buy Disgaea 4 and I just realized I have never completed the story of any Disgaea, even if I have every single of the,, so I'm trying to complete the story of the first one at least.

what i mean is that if you want you can play the game just as any other srpg if that's what you dig... it's not like the game force your hand "GRIND OR THOU SHALL NOT PASS"

but then it becomes just like any other srpg! the thing that makes disgaea (and most nis game) special is that the stat go in the millions range and the level go up to 9999 and leveling up is super easy since you have a bajillion of options

Most NiS games have a bad story, makai kingdom probably being the exception

NiS games are about animu jokes,it's a huge step up in a genre where the plot half of the time ends up in fight against various sort of gods

I'm actually not a fan of GTA, I think the series sucks except GTAIV

 >:(
While I appreciate Rockstar's craft with the PS2 games, playing them is akin to having a cat lick my anus.

I have so much SMH going on right now, I look like an extra from Jacob's Ladder.

Be honest with me now, how much of your memory with those games is entering cheats and causing bedlam? Are you trying to argue that actually playing the PS2 GTA games, doing the missions and all that, is really fun? For me, holding the lock-on button while Claude's arm dislocates trying to chase the target, all the while shooting randomly into the air, was typically how the simple action of attacking an enemy played out.

I admit the PS2 GTA games can be fun, but don't credit the game for that. It was you.

I haven't entered a Cheat for a Rockstar game in my life, I just like the side-missions. I like them more than the story missions for the whole GTA series, but this feeling increased exponentially when they went to the GTA IV model of "the car-chase target is impervious to harm until this part of the chase"...

GTA 3 had lots of missions allowing for creative solutions, though I suspect the design team saw these as "broken." They "fixed" them in IV, then streamlined and removed R3-missions until they weren't fun. Level 12 or 15 VIGILANTE missions are a blast in GTA3 and the Stories games, but IV's police assassin missions are each one-offs. The AMBULANCE missions are ass-clenchingly tense in 3, but in IV they're... OH, WAIT, THERE AREN'T ANY.

THEY MOVED THEM TO SAINTS ROW 2.

I don't get why Capcom doesn't/can't release that in the west, or just put the Legends games on PSN.  They have even released import PS1 versions of old Mega Man games!

I'm annoyed because I had most Mega Man games for PS1, but I'm pretty sure when my family moved years ago, my dad threw them away.  Pisses me off because I have all the cases, just not the CDs.  Also, he didn't throw away X5 or X6! the ones I cared about were MML1, 2 and X4 and they're gone.

Yes.  They have to sign new deals for digital releases, and either Capcom doesn't feel it's worth it, doesn't want to sign a contract with a convicted pedophile, or both.

Devil Survivor 2 On day 5/7.  The boss of Day 4 was like SHIN MEGAMI TENSEI CHALLENGE.  I thought I was going to beat him and call it a night at midnight.  After game overing, I spent 3+ hours thinking up new strategies, making new demons and trying them out only to die over and over until I finally got a good strat and I kicked his ass.  FELT GOOD.  Then it was 4am and I had to be up at 7am so I got 3 hours sleep because of it  :(

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, been concentrating on the Racer campaign for a while now.  I think I must be about 70-80% through all the events.  So much fun and such a good looking game.  But it definitely gets HARD at times and can be a bit annoying.  I just did a 5min+ hot pursuit where you have no weapons at all and just have to survive the race against infinite cops and roadblocks and helicopters with their goddamn GIGANTIC MOVING SPIKE STRIPS.  Blah, beat it though.  I dunno if I'll resume the cop career after I finish the racer one; will probably have had my fill of the game by then.

Tales of Xillia, can't tell if I like it or not yet.  Playing it very slowwww because I want to clear DS2 off my plate and Fallout NV DLCs before making it my main rpg.  Has potential, also has a ton of dumb design decisions.  I've heard mixed reviews from other people who are far into it or have beat it.  Some are down on it, some say it's one of the best Tales yet.  Dunno!

Pixel Junk Shooter almost finished with World 2 (ice), best part of this game is the music.  Soundtrack is one of those Shatter-type awesome indie osts.

tail concerto.  nearly verbatim dialog:

"why does [cat's name] hate dog-people?"

Yeah, it's animu :P  I mean it's about furries, pirates and airships.  I never finished TC, but Solatorobo is pretty good and the animu is mostly tolerable.

Yes, I get what Demi is saying, the story of Disgaea is hardly engaging, it´s really easy to get distracted. But is quite fun and I enjoy the jokes and puns, so I would like to see how it ends the first one at least.

As expected, once I bought King of the Dragon Pass, my time magically disappeared, getting my ass handed playing a five hours campaign where my clan went from poor vagabonds to... well, poor vagabonds. It´s really incredible how engaging can be a strategy game so conceptually simple like this one: a bit of managing and taking decisions. And I spent five hours with a "short" campaign and "easy" difficulty, I fear for my life if I get in a long campaign.

Yeah, it's animu :P  I mean it's about furries, pirates and airships.  I never finished TC, but Solatorobo is pretty good and the animu is mostly tolerable.

my plan going into Tail Concerto was "I've been playing western killing games.  I need something breezy and animu."  I may have gone overboard.  It's only a four hour long game, though, and it's fun if you can tolerate PS1-era controls.

I'll pick up Solatorobo eventually.  Just watching videos, it seems more for early teens ala SWAT cats or Biker Mice from Mars  than furry babies.

Im making the hard choice- putting DW Gundam 3 aside so I can move on with other games. 65 hours in and as much as I love playing it I need to see other games.

Just finished the main story in Red Faction: Guerrilla, and am debating how many ancillary Achievements to try before setting it aside for the next thing.

I'm still enjoying the game but, ironically, despite never really playing an OWG for the story, whenever the story is done, it feels "complete," and I have trouble staying motivated to clean up the remaining stuff. Part of it may come from playing the side missions to enhance my character, so the story missions are easier to clear.

I've got 102/104 guerrilla missions cleared, the last two are a simple House Arrest, and a substantially less simple Radio Mission: 7 military vehicle Caravan Destruction. I've made it to 6 out of 7 vehicles, so I'm pretty sure I'll get it soon. According to TrueAchievements.com, only 3% of the players they're tracking have the "Revolutionary" Achievement.

Pretty sure I can get the Demo Master 'cheev, but the Transporter one... I dunno.
