finished the mage quest line, starting the dark brotherhood one (i think it's the last one for chievo's) this is probaly the best questline if only for all the super corny villain like one-liner i can tell to the victims before killing them, also it gives me an excuse to use the werewolf powers, murdering people as a werewolf = no bounty

Dicking around in Tombs and Treasure, keep getting stuck and I keep forgetting to write down my password. Stupid old adventure games where you can trap yourself and force a restart.

going for the 1000 involve finishing the game four times (officialy you only need three runs but it's better to do four runs for reason explained below) the game isn't really long,i think it tops at 3-4 hours at best and even less on replays (1 hour/1 hour and half?) if you skip all the cutscenes (there are A LOT of cutscenes)

here's how it works

spoiler (click to show/hide)
- there's a bunch of miscellaneous achievements like "kill 50 enemies using X attack" and "do this thing in this stage" these will all pop out naturaly by playing the game
- then you get an achievement for finishing all the stages on normal with an S rank, getting S isn't hard but it can take a while and there is an even better easy way to do it
- after finishing normal you get a special mode where you can't see your health bar
- finish the whole game under this mode to get another achievement popping out
- if you got at least 10 S you get a special mode where you take triple damage, finish the game under this mode (put it on easy because this actualy makes the game hard, playing it on easy with this mode is actualy harder than playing the game on hard with your normal health bar :lol) to make another achievement
- finishing the game with the triple damage mode unlock a mode where you have unlimited special bars, this makes getting S ranks piss easy so you can abuse this mode to...
- get S rank on all the stages on hard, you can also use this mode to get any S you missed on your first play of normal (or second if you use normal to finish the game under the "invisible health bar" mode) i guess if you are good at the game, you can try to cut a replay by playing invisible mode on hard,or playing your first run on hard and then invisible mode on normal

oh and before you ask,you get ranked on the following thing

- damage done
- time took to finish the stage
- number of QTE you didn't fuck up

QTE usualy give a fair warning so there aren't a lot of chance to fuck up,even if you fuck up most stage still give you an S even if you fuck up one or two QTE
[close]

I really did enjoy my first play through, but I have no idea how the fuck you did this more than twice before shooting yourself from boredom.

Magus, take a picture of your achievement list for us. :teehee

i already did that once, for when i 1000/1000 the best 360 game evah! :rock

the other 1000/1000 not featured in that pic should be asura's wrath, rayman origins, dark souls and... i think there was another title but i sure can't remember it,i'm at 20.000 and something right now
i also got 900 something in both saints row 3 and final fantasy xiii
oh by the way the old dashboard was so much better in showing which game you got a 1000/1000 on them :maf

i should pick some arcadey game,i think they are the one that benefit the most of achievements since i normaly would just credit feed the whole thing and be done with it but with the achievements the game goes like "nuh-uh,finish it without continue's" i picked street fighter 4 for that reason but the achievements are all dumbs and online related >:(
maybe i could try an arcade shooter?

I think Death Smiles would be the perfect shump for magus. There are a few achievements on there that are extremely hard to get, but 800~ points should be doable. Akai Katana is great too (it's a hard, but doable 1000/1000), but it will seem pretty obtuse if you're not already into that stuff.

Raiden Fighters Aces is an even easier game, since you can just cheat for 3/4 of them. Maybe 3 of them require actual skill that are score based.

guess i'll check death smiles when i'm done with skyrim then, just finished the dark brotherhood questline, for once that was cool, there were no bandit caves at all and tons of stupid lines,i know i'm as shocked as you are! i guess that's mean i'm done with every questline so either i'll have to dick around until i stumble upon all 13 aedric artifact or it's time to take a trip to gamefaqs

oh and by the way the 1000/1000 game i forgot was prototype 2,did i mention it was a bland and boring sequel? :smug
current gamer score is 21,4XX... stupid 14 point achievement screwing up my counter >:(

I finished Persona 3, it took forever. I loved it but it's no Persona 4. You can go into a bossfight blind and get knocked down and it leaves you powerless for two whole turns and then you're dead. Then you go back with a different Persona equipped and pretty much rush the guy and you win. It never gets challenging but I suppose it's not really a game that needs to be carried by its battle system.

I maxed out so many social links, holy shit.

I like Aigis almost as much as I like Teddy even though she's kind of awful. Did you know that in order to truly live you must always be there for your friends? I learned that from a video game I played by myself for seventy hours. If there are any fembots reading this please PM me.

I think you just are good at playing Persona now.

If you had played P3 first, P4 would be no challenge :P  And if you had played SMT3 and DDS, P3 would be no challenge.  Atlus games these days are pretty easy on the normal difficulty.

I've played DDS1, thought it was harder than both Personas. Making suboptimal decisions in a fight can mess you up in that game, in P3 there simply aren't many decisions to make.

DDS actually creeped me out. Probably the only truly bleak postapocalyptic game ever made. Also the sweetest, sweetest guitar licks.

DDS was the PS2 generations Persona 2.

Too bad we didn't get a set of megaten games like that this generation :(
I guess Devil Survivor 1&2 could be the equivalent.  But DS2 is no DDS or Persona2.

I'm really hoping this new gen (3DS/Vita/X720/PS4/WiiU), Atlus will get on the ball again with megaten and pump out a lot of cool and varied megaten games like when got in the PS2 days with Nocturne/DDS1&2/Raidou1&2/Persona3&4.  All we got this past gen has been Strange Journey/DS1&2/Catherine (though people hate me for lumping it in with them) and ports.

So I should probably move Innocent Sin to the top of my backlog and go through these guys over the summer and see what all the fuss is about.  Was kind of turned off from playing them since Persona 1 sort of sucked.

So does anyone remember that Playstation Move game Sorcery from E3 like two years ago? ok, no?

There's a demo on Euro PSN and I tried it out.  Back then it looked like an action-adventure type game, something like Zelda.  I like Zelda and so I was mildly interested.  Turns out the game is a linear shooter with a fantasy setting :S  Instead of aiming and pulling a trigger, you waggle your wand towards an enemy.  To be fair the controls work well and you can pull off Wanted-like bullet curves naturally.  But what the hell.  Why is every Sony game a shooter now?  I know last gen it skewed towards 3D platformers, but even these lesser efforts like a Primal or w/e went in another direction.  And I see GAF threads where people ask for Syphon Filter--maybe people just want more shooters.  At least with Syphon Filter, maybe they could interject some stealth into it.  I dunno.  I'm not against shooters.  And God of War isn't a shooter...yet.

just finished the mainline quest, this has to be the lamest ending ever since that ghostbuster nes screen :rofl
there wasn't even a credit roll :rofl

currently i'm at 42/50 achievements missing

Read 50 skill books
Finish 50 Dungeons
Get all the daedric artifacts
Get all the standing stones
Reach Level 50
get Married
learn 20 shouts
complete 10 side quest

i'm mostly worried about the skill books achievement since the game doesn't keep track of what books you did read

wow i just did a quest where i was almost ragequitting skyrim, the reason? i got stuck twice because of two different bugs :rofl

the first time there was a dialogue that wouldn't trigger,so i had to skip a piece of the quest by doing the thing after the dialogue and i can kinda understand this bug... the one that really blows my mind is the next one
after you do your thing, you have to go to a cave (what else do you think would happen?) but here's the shocking thing, you can enter the cave but as soon as you enter there is a wall blocking the passage

that's it
that's the bug, there was a wall in a passage where there shouldn't be any wall
now i can understand a trigger not activating or stuff like that, but how the heck do you make a bug that creates a wall that blocks a passage? i wouldn't even have guessed there was a bug in the first place if it wasn't for the fact that one of the bandit somehow glitched trough it and went across the wall so actualy maybe this should count as 3 bugs

hey guys skyrim on master difficulty is REALLY FUCKING HARD.

i love playing on the hardest difficulty in open-world wrpgs because the progression feels so awesome.  in the beginning you're so weak that a fight with a regular animal is tough and any fight with a basic human is life-or-death; anything stronger than that and you better start running.  you build up skills and levels an slowly you can eke out a victory from tougher and tougher monsters.  by the end of the game you're powerful as fuck but the strongest monsters can still crush you if you don't prepare.

HOWEVER

i'm 45 hours into skyrim and still getting my ass beat left and right.  it's a pain in the ass getting through a dungeon only to find that there's even stronger enemies way down in there that you can't get past.  i'm too stubborn to lower the difficulty tho, so it looks like i gotta head back to a town and work on some better crafting and enchantments.

even still this game is fucking amazing.  i swear this is total landscape porn; everywhere i look is beautiful and the effects like the mist rolling off the mountains looks SO DAMN GOOD.  loads of great emergent moments too.  my favorite so far is when the "statue" i walked towards on top of a mountain turned out to be a dragon, and while running like hell from it i stumbled into a conjurer's stronghold and let all of them battle it out while i picked off the stragglers with fireballs and arrows.  this game's gonna suck even more time from me than fallout 3 but I DON'T CARE

Really getting into Dragon's Dogma.  The combat just makes it so much more fun to me than your typical open-world RPG.  Stumbed upon a hidden cave with a small dungeon containing a cyclops, then made my way to new territory and ran into a group of orcs and an ARMORED cyclops.  Took them out and right around the corner was a chimera...after that I see the DRAGON from the beginning of the game just walking around.   :o  He had a shit-ton of life and I did no damage to him...got the hell out of there but it was too late and all party members, including an NPC who was with me for a quest, got wiped out.  This game is crazy!

Also played a bit of Soul Calibur V (what happened to the PS3 version?  The online sucks now) and SFxTekken.

Finished Kingdom Hearts 3D

hehehehehe

I would say we're getting into MGS4 territory here, but KH2 was already there, and at this point I don't know if this is actually worse.  The plot of KH3 has the potential be the most bat-shit crazy story in a game ever.

Gameplay-wise, 3D is pretty good.  Not as good as BBS (worlds aren't as good, there's no plot in the entire game until the final world; just episodic disney stories, combat system is a notch worse), but better than all the side games, and better than KH1/2 in combat.

And Tron Legacy sucks >_<

But Fantasia makes up for that.

finished all the daedric quest in skyrim, the only worthwhile one was the one with the wabbajack, the rest was boooooooooooooring "go into x and kill y"

look i enjoyed my first 4-5 hours with the game, you level up quickly, the game throws a nice amount of stuff at you, there are a lot of chance to dick around...
but after that there is nothing but endless repetition which makes for a "eh i guess this is okay" game... they put up something like 4 questline's and the only one that feels slighty different is the dark brotherhood one,the whole game feels like it's been crafted by a cold robot who couldn't think of anything better of "okay, there are bandits/zombie's! and they are inside a cave!" enemies can come in other variations other than "angry humanoid" you guys know that right?

like... the dragons, those aren't humanoids, good! i like the idea of the dragons, but they are all the same,i don't know... they could have put an acquatic dragon or maybe some dragons came with minions like dragon whelps, maybe one dragon has 3 tails and attacks with them but no... watch the dragon fly around, wait for him to land, bonk him in the head, washe rinse and repeat, even the fucking final boss is like that, they couldn't be bothered to give some sort of flavor to the final boss,it's got to the point that it's even hard to guess how strong the dragon actualy is and you have to guess based on how menacing his name sounds "maybe blood dragon is stronger than frost dragon?" "is ancient dragon worse than blood dragon?"

the rpg aspect don't feel prominent too,i got like 2 armor/weapon upgrades the whole game... that's not how it should works,i got a ring that upgraded my damage and i never ever needed to bother with all the other enchanted items whatsoever, enchanted weapon too are a pain in the ass "your sword has run out of battery, replace batteries?" :yuck

the spells too,i got like 2 spells in every school, which mostly were one spell and a slighty stronger variation of that spell, now i guess that if you bother dicking more around the wizard school you get more spell but is it worth giving it a rat ass when everything dies with a blade in the face anyway? a good way to push the player toward using spells could have been putting monster that are resistant to getting punched in the face but i guess the idea of a sword-resistant bandit just sounded silly

it is no secret that i don't like open world, well this one didn't feel bad, traveling to your objective is usualy a quick affair so i don't have any trouble with it,if i do have a trouble is when your objective is on a mountain and then you have to circumnavigate all over the mountains trying to understand what part of the mountain is climbable... that? that one is bullshit tough it's pretty funny when you are on a horse :teehee

so long story short... janky jrpg >>>>>>>>>>>>> AAA western rpg :smug :usacry

anyway i'm missing 8 skill books for the skill book achievement, any good idea what could be a source of uncommon skill books so i can finaly wrap up this 1000/1000?

And when they DO try to become more open, you slam on that as well (Xenoblade)

magus is right though, Skyrim is shit.

Anyhow I've just been playing lots of Minecraft. I'm pretty hooked but I imagine I'll get bored at some point soon. Still, it's a pretty staggering game on a lot of levels.

I got up some jetbike race in Chrono Trigger but the ROM I'm playing freezes at the same spot everytime. Serves me right huh? I guess I'll never be able to play this game. I would fork out $10 for the iOS version if it wasn't, uh... an iOS version. I tried playing Secret of Mana and the touch screen controls were horrendous. You'll never be able to replace traditional handhelds.

what? i already said that the dwemer ruins were cool but for the single dwemer ruin you visit, there is 20 other bajillion other place that look like this

there is so much brown that it's depressing, they didn't even bother making new puzzle's,they just copied and pasted that shit with the claw like the player is some sort of amnesiac kid who's going to keep forgetting to check the claw for the sequence :rofl

do we want to talk about how every inn is the same? i mean there are only 9 big city, was it so hard to make 9 different inns? the whole game feels like they didn't give a fuck about it

also himuro is trying to make his argument with a photo of the moon, rapidly approaching the level of those guys who post screenshot of xenoblade grass
besides the whole point i was trying to make is that fixed camera linear dungeons beat the shit out of boring empty sandbox any times of the day, those are fun to explore and look at,walking around for miles without nothing to see is not

reading the thoughts of a jrpg nerd on skyrim is pretty funny. "why are these underground nordic caves so brown and green and stuff??? it's almost as if they are underground and made out of rock and dirt."

Its like Magus tried Skyrim only to bitch about it.

He does have some valid points though here and there.

magus just enjoys being the contrarian and since he pirates everything anyway, there is no real loss.

I'm not entirely following what's being said but I agree that Skyrim has too few dungeon templates for the number of dungeons.  Something expected with this style of game.  Creating unique assets for every dungeon (all forty-seven thousand) would no doubt be ambitious but shit man that's a lot of work.

And I guess the dungeons are too lit.  Legend of Grimlock has some dungeon looking dungeons.  Skyrim dungeons are Indiana Jones set lit dungeons.  Again, it's to be expected.

just a couple more 'flavors' of dungeon would have been welcome. Skyrim dev's priorities were fucked. Lets have a giant world you can walk all over, and fill it with annoying assholes. Lets spend no time at all balancing stats and making a decent, mathematically sound RPG.

Coming off Dark Souls, Skyrim seemed an absolute joke. Crappy art, lame dialog, poorly tuned gameplay.

Skyrim isn't a bad game though. I enjoyed the first 60 hours or so, so hey. I just think it's grossly overrated. Lowest common denominator and all that, I guess

I do find it kind of amusing that when people start posting beautiful pictures from Skyrim, 9/10 times they look like something from my hometown, which is pretty much a tiny town in the middle of the boreal forests of NW Ontario.  I had no idea I was growing up in such a nice place.  Seemed boring as fuck to me, til I moved to urban sprawl.

I find 9/10 times when people are defending Skyrim's art this will be posted:

ZOMG Skyrim has this one cool statue!
