They did. It was called Game Room.

didn't game room just have a bunch of random atari games? i'd hardly call that "mame with achievements"

hey, InFamous, fuck your terror buses and conduits in mech suits.

I had trouble with the Terror Buses but, in the end, there was some manner of defeating them pretty straightforwardly.

Yeah I found it, but was annoyed by the floaty controls and camera which makes you think you're on target only to fall to the side of the bus and then you die

Akai Katana is one of my favorites (better than DS1 and 2 imo), but I'm not sure if it's a good introduction to Cave since it's one of their most complex games. I actually think it's pretty intuitive once you understand how everything works, but it does have a bit of a learning curve.

If you can't find DS, it might be best to go with Mushihimesama Futari. It was only released in Japan, but it's region free so you'll be able to play it on any console.

I've 100% the first 3 chapters of SMB... and honestly the "stickiness" is a game killer. I've died countless times because of him sticking to ledges. It's still super swag and satisfying to clear a level. Right now I would give a 7/10. Some of the levels are just WTF bullshit, then the next following levels are easy cake. Is this intentional? All the bonus characters seem to be complete shit, and I see no reason to use them aside from getting a bandaid or warp portal (Ogmo's double jump)

Yeah, the extra characters are bullshit. 1 or 2 will be useful on certain maps. I've never heard anyone complain about the stickiness until now. It's obvious, but it never took away from anything or made the game frustrating imo.

I really hate theres collectables in a game like this too. Feels anti-thesis to the whole idea. I mean you can spend like 20 minutes just trying to get this bandaid, but after that you're straight to the speedrunning again. Like a distraction.

in a desperate attempt to get more mileage out of my old ds,i've been trying some pokeyman black and it's less awfull than the last pokeyman game i played,i set "skip animation" and i was pleasantly surprised to see encounters be done in the blink of an eye, shame it took them like what... 5 games? 6 games?

i'm not sure i want to continue, game is still piss easy and catching all the pokeymans is pretty much the gaming equivalent of trying to empty the sea with a bucket,i'm amused by the trading system, everyone makes the most absurd request ever for anything, imagine playing diablo and every item in the AH is priced 30.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000 gold, that's what using the trading system feels like

yeah I beat that shithead, then the new twist was OMG sandstorm battles. It was a fine game, in 1997. The fact that Pokemon is the exact same shit 15 years later... yeah. So many twists and innovations could have been made. I guess the basic formula is still there and still as effective as it ever was. Kids playing this for the first time are gonna get blown away!

am i supposed to be able to stealth my way through this game? because so far it's doesnt seem like the game wants me to.

edit: granted I'm only on the second level but i didn't appear to be giving me any real stealth options.

does the game open up at all?

i got to chapter 7 and the game has it's fun bit tough there are also times where it's incredibly dull (the dialogue become all awkward and stupid everytime altair or desmond appear on screen... i think i'm starting to understand why people don't like the original) the sandbox element feels really weak,i have no reason to dick around nor the game seems interessed in pointing me in some way to do so,that thing were you sent assassin all over europe feel's like a total ripoff of portable ops :lol

i've been dicking around a little bit more with mame... at first i went for random games but i wasn't getting much out of it,so i started focusing on namco, did you know this was the first namco arcade game ever?

this one is kinda weird,it plays like some sort of super primitive arena shooter, but at certain points of the game you can warp and switch the game to a bomberman-like style

i was also surprised to know namco released like other versions of pacman,i guess whoring out was a thing already back in the 80 too

this game is featured in all the 99-in-1 famiclones i know of but i had no idea it was actualy a namco game

and here we have, another maze game,in this one you can push wall downs so you can crush enemies

this one actualy kinda feels and look like a taito game,it's like the other maze game but you have to drop your ball and then as you get chased around you release the ball and use to smash your enemies,i'm extremely amused by the fact that it features all of dig dug enemies all in awesome big colorfull sprite, the whole game is also super cute and happy and saccarine enough to give you diabete,a nice remedy from michael bay e3

i also love to leave around the official guide of tower of druaga when talking about these kind of games,as the game is the ultimate "guide dang it"

Dirt 2 (PC) - Still great, I'm at level 17.  I beat the game before on the 360 about two years ago and got this game when it was $5 on a steam sale.  I see that it is $20 now but I still recommend the game at this price.  Great graphics, fun as hell, and runs at a solid 60 fps at max settings on my 3 GB GTX 580.

Gran Turismo 5 XL Edition (PS3) - I'm trying to like this game.  I remembered how fun (for a GT game amirite?) GT3 is and how this game...is not.  The menus are overdesigned but the driving is so far behind Forza that I wonder if Polyphony didn't just slap something together in order to get the game out by the end of 2010.

Ridge Racer 7 3D Edition (PS3) - After playing Dirt 2, I realized that this game isn't worth the hard drive space that it occupies on my PS3 HDD.  To be honest, I mostly bought it because I wanted a 3D game to play.  I hate how the game controls and prefer a smoother experience.  As much as I loved RR6 on the 360 and RR on the PSP, I think I've moved on from Ridge Racer.  I deleted this game off the PS3.

Ys Origin (PC) - I wrote a rant in the Ys Origin thread but this game is really great.  Simple but very fun.  I highly recommend it.

I also turned the Wii on for the first time in six months to play some NSMB.  I saw that the controllers were acting wonky and realized that I probably need to change the batteries out.  Instead, I turned the Wii off and did something else instead.  It could be another six months before I turn it on again.

the reason i wasn't understanding the rules is because the game operates under two set of rules depending on the starting mode you pick so some description would clash, what a clusterfuck geebus!

uh anyway i'm sorry but i absolutely can't stand this, there is something distinguished mentally-challenged in a game that throw so much stuff at you that the only way to survive is to become invincible, kinda like solving a waiting line by murdering everyone,i tought this would be sort of like touhou, but no,even touhou feel more fair than this

Have you tried Hydorah, Magus? It's a free game made by someone who obviously loves older, side-scrolling shooters like Gradius. I thought it was quite fun and it isn't very hard. Has secret collectables too.

Absolutely atrocious voice acting though, but being a connoisseur of middling jRPGs I suspect you could manage.

:lol Origin/Climax were designed around the bullet reflect mechanic, but since Slash doesn't have that, they made it so it could be beaten without entering Phantom form at all. Have you tried that?

I've actually been playing Merto 2033 recently and there's something about this game. It's actually pretty good and I play it in chunks, but I find myself taking breaks. When I do sit down to play it I am sucked in. It's good and I don't know why. Sure, the atmosphere is amazing and while the gunplay can be pretty meh, it is somehow hectic. The human ai is dumb, but even those firefights feel more interesting then say the "whack a mole" of CoD. And the monster parts feel very tense even though they are nothing special.

Anyway, I am enjoying the game.

Great news is that Lolipop Chainsaw comes out this week. Yay!

Finished Batman:AC - Harley Quinn's Revenge.

Tried to go back and get additional Campaign medals in the vanilla game... I am never going to get any better at this game, am I? I love this game, but the Campaign missions are murder for me.

did you get the freeflow 2.0 achievement? Getting that is pretty good training for high scoring campaign runs. The campaigns can be VERY rough. I'd like to get back to them and knock them out someday. I'll still pissed I forked out for all the DLC, then my Batman disc stops working. grr

I picked up Campaign Silver last week in Japan, still haven't finished a few of the campaign missions. I feel like maybe I can manage it if I stick with it. I love this game, but I hate it, too. It's too good.

I got Hard Reset for $5 during last year's steam sale. I only played for a couple hours, but it's alright. There isn't much enemy variety and pretty much everything feels a little bullet spongey, but it's still decent. Serious Sam 3 is way better.

Got stuck in to Borderlands recently. Thought it was going to be some shallower version of Fallout 3 but surprised to find it's a pretty fun shooter with some paper thin rpg elements. I guess it might drag if it goes on for too long but for now I'm having a great time loot whoring and shooting stuff in the face. Currently trying to work out how to bring down a colossal moth that just raped me.

i decided to man up,i armed myself with a handy guide
http://shiren.wetpaint.com/page/Shiren+4
and decided to tackle shiren 4 even if the whole thing is in japanese, having to play checking the guide for when i don't recognize one of those stupid japanese letter is annoying and sometimes i keep forgetting some of what the items do and i have to check the list again but overall i am being able to go trough it and was able to reach floor 20 out of 30

problem is... i don't like this very much,i always envisioned this as some great sequel but this really feel more like a rehash, the addition feels barebones and some of them are really annoying, one of the biggest addition is a day/night cycle, when it's day the game plays like normal but when night comes, you can't damage monsters anymore, worse yet,the monster start to attack and kill each other and by shiren rules that means some monster get crazy strong,to complete the trifecta of badness when it's night you can only see one step ahead of you, which translates into easily missing the stairs for the next floor and risking ending up into more monsters or worse yet, getting one shotted by a monster that leveled up and you didn't see, this can be solved by equipping a torch which improve your sight radius but even with a torch you can only still see 2 space ahead instead of 1 so it's still sort of annoying

now i can sort of understand why they did this, this add a lot of tensions because you are dead afraid of running into a monster that's gonna kick your ass,but then they gave shiren special moves that he can only use at night which totaly murders any monster you run into, which kinda defeat the purpose of the system anyway,of course there is a limit to how many special moves you can use but it's pretty big and i don't think i ever ran out of special moves

another incredibly annoying system is the banana one, since the game takes place on a tropical island they replaced the riceballs with banana and to add more flavor to it,they added a system were banana keep's maturing in your inventory (so a green banana becomes a yellow banana and such) the problem is if you leave a banana for too long,it spoils and become rotten, this is EXTREMELY annoying as you have to keep checking your inventory to see if one of your banana is going to spoil soon (tough one neat addition is that when you eat a banana, you get a banana peel that you can leave around and if a monster steps on it he start slipping all over the place :lol)

the lack of new stuff is what i find most disappointing, most of the monsters are still from the original game even if they have new big colorfull sprites that are so awesome to look at,some of the new one are amusing... there is a serpent monster that for example move in a L fashion (like a knight in chess) and a bunny in a top hat that has the ability to warp everyone in the same spot (very annoying when you are in a big room) most of the items are the same, you still got the same pushing staves, the same confusion scrolls, the same power up herbs (tough at least this makes the game easier to play) it's really hard for me to not think "why i'm not playing the original in english instead of bothering with all this japanese when there is so little new stuff to see?"

I will bad mouth the Zeno Clash team any day (no offense to Chileans).

Great piece of art.
Shitty game.

Same thing goes for Rock of Ages, but it's a bit better in the gameplay department.  Will check out Zeno Clash 2 when it's <$5 and see if they've learned anything.

mnml is a subgenre of electronic music, it's an abbreviation of 'minimal techno', see Sceneman's post for an example of a mnml track. Ricardo Villalobos and Luciano are 2 really popular DJs of this style, and both are Chilean, hence the reference.

Ironically enough I used to be good friends with a Chilean who hated the stuff, he turned me onto a lot of EDM but it was mostly trance and progressive.

Zeno Clash has such a unique art style, really do want to give it a shot one day. Rock of Ages was ehhh, but I only played a bit of the demo. Control was a bit on the stiff side IIRC.

More mnml stuffs:
