Got 1.015 billion with Casper in Death Smiles 2 (arcade). This game frustrates the hell out of me - bullets come at you from every direction at varying speeds, and you're constantly moving in order to kite a bunch of suicide bullets. Every death is so aggravating. :maf

Other than that it's fun. I should be able to beat my 1.1b Lei score if I have a good run, but I dunno if I'll really try since I only want to play casually for now.

I think mine is a Hunewearl...the female hunter android ninja looking one.

SCHT hack is so awesome!!!  They added a shitload of missions, unless I'm not remembering the original version correctly.  I'm also loving that my 360 pad worked just fine with no configuration necessary.

But I wonder if Sega will send the C+D before PSO2 comes out.   :maf

i just bought the Phantasy Star Collection for PS2 on the Japanese PSN.  I've always wanted to play the originals and that seems like the best way.  Everything is in english.

You are a Hucaseal then, not the best class for beginners with all that item management and no basic techs.

Yeah some missions are added, a lot of the content is just stuff that people never saw since PSO:BB added a ton of content atop of v1 and v2. Sega wont C&D it's not in their nature really, they've allowed SCHTserv to exist next to Universe and have almost always turned a blind eye to fan projects

You made a wise choice, Phantasy Star is the GOAT JRPG

So I'm making my way to the 1000/1000 for Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition on PC, I'm a mere six achievements away. It's actually been pretty easy for the most part, I think the only one that'll give me trouble is collecting all the unique weapons because I have no idea what my progress is on that. I look forward to this game being the first I've actually S-ranked! I did Peter Jackson's King Kong The Movie The Game on my 360 account, but c'mon. That hardly counts.

I'm enjoying it so far...finding some depth in timing my hits and all that.  Plus, she can see traps and doesn't get poisoned, so that's nice.   But the big guys that punch and shoot fire balls are annoying.

I didn't get my reward for beating 1-3 (+5 sword for beating the dragon.)  I'm not sure if my inventory was full or if it was just a glitch...I ended the quest and was told I got it, but it's not in my inventory.  Have you ever had that happen?  hope it doesn't happen again...

finishing up Barkley Shut Up and Jam Gaiden. Incredible game.

this is such a perfect tribute to a jrpg 'techno' dungeon. Reminds me of a final dungeon in a Baten Kaitos game or something

I think I'll play Halo 4 and some other games before I continue with NFS.

the sad part is, the battles are worse than XIII.  So they improved the non-battle areas, but fights are so easy that it feels kind of meaningless to play, imo.

Can't say I liked XIII-2. The battles were just too much of a cakewalk and I hated the monster party members. Plus I never like jrpgs where the world is disconnected and it has a mission structure like XIII-2 and X-2.

Main thing right now is chasing Meseta so I'll have enough for Matoi's outfit when that hits on Wed. Somehow I doubt 2 mil Meseta will be enough :qq:

seems like you're enjoying PSO2-- I saw some criticisms saying it seems obviously F2P and has ridiculous requirements for stuff.  Is that stuff true at all?

Well, you'll make money a LOT faster if you go premium, it kind of takes a bit of work to set that up on the JP servers due to language barrier obviously,. I've not done so and can generally keep up with people. I just don't have all my high end weapons and gear grinded to +10 cause protects cost a fortune and money isn't made super fast for free players aside from running Time Attack missions. What do you mean ridiculous requirements? For equipping certain gear? They shifted to requiring a status in specific defense for newer 'universal' weapons kind of rendering them unusable unless they're what the class you're subbing is and your main is the other variant (i.e. Hunter subbing Fighter, etc.) unless you have a mag leveled in that stat. You could always buy one for real monies (AC) or get one from a player shop. There's little things like that nudging you towards being premium here and there but it's far from unplayable and you're far from useless if ya don't pay up. Just don't expect to be the OP without putting a bunch of time in, but since it's an online game with no actual end you're supposed to play the shit out of it, right? ...and yeah they 'launched' with less content than would fly in other territories, most likely due to the # of people who were playing they saw $$$ and hit the switch earlier than planned. Considering Sega's less than ideal financial situation that's not a mega shocking thing. I'm also playing lots due to what is normally funds for gameage being partially funneled towards paying off my new-ish laptop. :lol

I see, it doesn't sound like you feel all that limited by the F2P-ness (p-ness, heh.)  I just saw some people complaining about it on GAF.  I think the sentiment "worse than PSU" was being thrown around.

It's F2P, so it's not like I'm not gonna try it out.

The Final Fantasy XIII Trilogy seem like the best console JRPGs of the generation because, where's the competition? It feels like Vesperia, Lost Odyssey, and Blue Dragon came out a lifetime ago. Now all we got is moe-wank like Neptunia, Ar Tonelico, and Atelier Mewmew. Japanese game development is a damn wasteland.

Right now I'm playing Dunwall City Trials, the new DLC for Dishonored. It's pretty fun, actually, even though it's essentially just a set of time trials. It's good for getting back into the game and what the game is about, but without the time commitment of starting up a new full playthrough. It lets you make use of all your weapons and powers in a variety of ways, like finding a target for assassination, killing as many people as possible within a set amount of time, or just warping around a level as fast as you can. Nothing major here, but I've already got more than $5 of enjoyment out of it while only even touching less than a third of the challenges.

straight up jrpg players moved on from final fantasy a fucking long-ass time ago, borys.  we've got more interesting things to play than the latest 'mash fight command to drama' shit from kitase and toriyama.  they're simple games made for teenage boys and lonely fat women.

I mean there's still those Tales games if you like that stuff. Xillia 2 just came out in Japan.

I mean other then that, on consoles you've had Xenoblade and The Last Story. Those were pretty good. Resonance of Fate is a personal favorite of mine as well.

I mean I love FF and actually really liked XIII. But I like FF for it's big budget looks, solid enough gameplay, and visuals. FF is one of the few big games that I think actually takes you to far out their fantasy worlds and I like it for that. I mean TLS and Xenoblade and I'm sure a lot others are better games, but still as far as I'm concerned nothing quite hits what FF does. I just hope the next one is far more crowd pleasing.

Final Fantasy lost its shit years ago. Jrpg players mostly could give fuck all about Final Fantasy in 2012. They offer nothing better than smaller RPG titles aside from presentation.

Tales of Vesperia is my face console jrpg this console Gen but bringing up jrpgs and modern consoles is lol to begin with. If you liked jrpgs you would own a PSP and a Ds

I really don't see whats so great about handhelds. I've bought a PSP three times and sold it three times. There's nothing fantastic with it's library(at least for an english user). After I played and beat Falcom's games there was nothing left of interests. The HD consoles offered more then that system.

Had a DS Lite right when it came out. Got bored sold it for my first PSP. Never looked back. Played TWEY on ios. I look at whats available on the DS and I doubt I missed anything.

I really don't get the handheld praise.

Well then tell me?

What else was left on the PSP to play? Ports? I already played Persona 3 and yes the female route was a nice addition, but it's not earth shattering. Persona 2, it's nice it's in English officially, but I already played the fan translation. I look over and see what i had for the PSP and it's nothing that much better then whats on consoles.

Breath of Fire 3-A port.
Lunar-an inferior remake
Valkyrie Profile-A port
FF Tactics-An inferior port
FF 1 and 2-Ports.
FFIV-A port with shitty new fan fiction expansions.
Crisis Core-More FFVII shit.
The Third Birthday-What is this?
Tactics Orge-A port, but the only one that was actually new to me.
Kingdom Hearts BBS-Fine a good game.

So what don't I have? What did I miss? The Vahalla Knights games? Oh boy! Some NIS crap? I wouldn't want it on the consoles anyway.  What was so great about the PSP and it's jrpg library? I'm sure a lot of games went untranslated, such as the imageepoch and Capcom jrpg, but thats kind of a moot point for most US jrpg players anyway. So what on the PSP am I ignorant about?

On the DS I guess you have DQ remakes, fine I guess thats cool if you like DQ. And EO if you like those type of games. But I don't so I won't go for that or the also untranslated 7th Dragon. Outside of those what was so great about the DS? Pokemon? Fuck Pokemon.

Yes I missed Radiant Histora or whatever it's called. I think I will survive.

And as for the 3DS and Vita. Well I guess it's early, but what awesome games do they have coming? The Vita looks like crap so far and a port of a good jrpg sure isn't exciting. And 3ds is what going to have more DQ remakes and what not? Whats on the 3ds now? A Tales port and a meh KH game? Well let me rush out and buy a 3ds right now!

Again I have to ask whats so great about handhelds? I'm not seeing anything the blows consoles out of the water here? Other then I guess they have more numbers.

The only person saying it blows consoles out of the water is Himu. But he is known to be a little jaded.

I got a new Fire Emblem, Etrian Odyssey, Soul Hackers, Unchained Blades (already available on PSP), Pokemon Mystery Dungeon and that's just in the first quarter. And I got Ni No Kuni, Xillia, Lightning Returns and possibly others. PSP even got some love with Growlanser, Eliminage, Ragnarok Tactics... and some others. I'm gonna be pussy deep in JRPG.

I haven't said that the ds+psp blow consoles out of the water. That is utterly dependent on your game taste. However, I do prefer the ds and psps game libraries. Depending on the genre, such as jrpgs or puzzle games, ds and psp just offer more than the consoles. That is a mere fact. More than that, they offer more in terms of variety and fresh, new game ideas than the consoles as well.

I certainly spent more time this generation playing my ds and psp than 360 and ps3 (and wii). I also know i'm not the only one to do so.

Honestly Borys, jrpgs have never been tremendously high budget beyond Squaresoft's stuff. You had exceptions like Monolithsoft's Xeno series, and Level 5's ps2 rpgs, but were were exceptions, not the norm. So Final Fantasy being the only big budget upcoming jrpg is pretty much par for course.

jrpgs are pretty much dead to me.  I finished XIII because I waited so damn long for it and I felt some obligation to see it through, much like MGS4, which I did twice now.  But Tales, Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Resonance of Fate, etc. didn't hold my attention.  I'll get around to Xenoblade one of these days-- sounds like it's up my alley.  I loved XII...but I still have a XII International play through to get around to before I touch that.

I see, it doesn't sound like you feel all that limited by the F2P-ness (p-ness, heh.)  I just saw some people complaining about it on GAF.  I think the sentiment "worse than PSU" was being thrown around.

It's F2P, so it's not like I'm not gonna try it out.
Oh HELL YEAH! Bore Squad +1

i'm waiting for the english release, so it'll be a while.   Unlesssssss you can convince me that setting up a JP account and playing in Japanese is easy, like you did with schthack.   ;)

So I know Mass Effect 3 sucks, but I want to play it anyhow and it's the right price I'm willing to pay for it now at Origin.  Do I go for the standard version at $15 or the Deluxe one at $20?  Are the "From the Ashes" DLC & Mechadog companion worth $5?

There wasn't captcha for signup back when I joined in. It's probably there primarily to try and keep out the RMT bots which it most certainly does not. Just find a hiragana list online and flail about until you get in, unless you'd rather be behind on content forever. That said having to switch around to a spreadsheet to see just wtf your items are is a bit of a pain since that stuff is server side and can't be translated by the patcher kids.

Yeah the captcha was added later. My first account was made captcha free, second (a month ago) was captcha'd
