Playing Infamous. The world design is cool, but the story is absolute WTF and the animation quality is  :rofl

Should I be good or evil, which is more fun?

Evil was just weird. It's basically more about being a prick who doesn't give a shit, than about being evil. I didn't even mean to play it as "good," but the "evil" choices didn't make any sense. The game is uneven, but the shit that counts (Cole's animation, them powers) is pretty hot. Sort of wish they hadn't bothered with the "open world" thing, would have been better and probably a lot more polished as a linear action game.

Hanging onto the sides of containers and shit is really fun. The feeling of moving around the city is pretty good too.

The cutscenes are enormous plot dumps that are pretty much incomprehensible. You watch them then you're like...what?

edit: URRRRGH, why did they not put a limiter on the frame rate  ???

If you want to get more of the story, the dead drops are basically where it's at. I didn't think the story was particularly bad, at least not in a comic book sense. The two main friendly characters, on the other hand, were atrocious in every way. Moya, the other dude and some boss dude I forget the name of were all pretty cool, but not enough to cover for Zeke and the annoying girlfriend.

Have you unlocked the static thrusters yet? Once you get those and the ability to electro-grind, movement is fast as hell.

Not sure what happened with the NPC animation, either. Enemies look good, but there are some seriously goofy encounters with the townsfolk, both in-game and in the cutscenes. I guess going straight from furrytoon to this would be a challenge for anyone, but it's incredibly bad.

Played through When Pigs Fly
http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/505307

Was one of the most incredibly frustrating experiences this year.  Was a good break from studying.

Also I wonder if this game will be easier once I get my new monitor with 2ms response time.  My current one has 28ms and I have to wonder if that makes these split second pixel difference games harder than they should be because I'm lagging.

Just did the Jedi Temple, Tatooine, and Hoth levels in Force Unleashed.

Tatooine is the best thanks to Jabba's Palace and how you kill off Obi-Wan.

Hoth kinda sucks but it's fun to beat the shit out of whiney Luke.

Can't play a good portion of my non-music games in front of my kids, so I'm playing through my US$10 copy of Disney's Bolt. Most of the time it's brain-dead easy, but other times it requires stupid levels of controller mastery and trying to figure out what the designers want you to do. It's not that the designs are hard in retrospect, but a few times I've tried what they intended, the game's controls/detection aren't up to the task, so I assume I'm wrong. It's pretty frustrating.

On the other hand, it hands out Achievements like a piñata.

Just did the Jedi Temple, Tatooine, and Hoth levels in Force Unleashed.

I'm looking forward to playing through this, since the story is supposedly "canon."
/dork

I'm really curious now that you've mentioned those encounters, how they can rationalize it in context of the existing story. Lucas has been weird about canon; they state openly that the novels aren't canon, but they incorporated things from the books into the prequel movies and Clone Wars series, IIRC.

I bet all those books and comics are 100 times better than anything Lucas can come up with.  KOTOR was.

Finished Mass Effect replay.  My consensus is that I now realize the other reason why I doubted Bioware with Dragon Age.  I was never the biggest fan of the game, but replaying it reminds me how dull parts are.  Conversation system is a joke.  Writing and male Shepard's voice acting are hilariously bad.  The general cutscenes and framing of shots are just as bad.  Combat sucks, side missions all suck, etc.  Main missions are alright, the music is great, the story isn't so good as the universe is well realized and it's still enjoyable despite being a lesser rpg.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
the game ends with you're character posing in front of a space backdrop  :lol
[close]

Having said that, I watched some videos of Mass Effect 2 and it looks pretty awesome.  Looks like they decided to make it more of a shooter instead of the weird crappy in-between shooting mechanics from ME1.

The main Force Unleashed game and Light-side ending is 100% canon (Starkiller was even Luke's original last name). The core story arc came directly from Lucas so it could serve as a prequel to the Live Action series.

The Dark side ending, Tatooine, and Hoth levels are not canon. They fall into the SW Infinities level of Canon (Like Elseworlds or What If? In comics).

And KOTOR had the most generic fan fiction story since Spock stumbled in on Kirk in the shower.

So I'm playing Halo 3 on Social Slayer.

Some game came up, I don't remember what it was... 3 of my teammates dropped. That game got vetoed, we went to Snowbound, and my final teammate dropped. So 5 on 1, yet again, before the game even starts, thanks a lot, mouthbreathers. (But I didn't really hold it against the last quitter, considering the odds.)

So I can either take the experience hit and quit out, stay in and try to find a place to hide, or just roll with it.

I rolled with it.

I can barely stand Snowbound when the sides are even, but if wasn't for some jerkface using a needler (it's 5 on 1! use a weapon that isn't the cheapest thing on the planet, for crying out loud), I might have been able to pull it off. In the end, I fell short, 21 to their 27.

 >:(

I hate quitters and griefers. I derep all of them, whatever good it does. Either team, it doesn't matter. Stop being idiots, jackholes.

I've had that happen, but to be fair, the odds are in your favor if you're a decent player. If you can take out one or two with every death, you'll win. I've won a few matches like that. I'd rather be 1 v 5 than a mediocre 3 vs 5.

If the other team works halfway decently, you'd never make 3 steps without dying (slight exaggeration). But teams working together should easily demolish you in a 5 on 2, 5 on 3 situation.

Although, oddly, earlier in the evening, I was in a 5 on 2 mismatch on the very same map, and we won. This one wasn't quitters beforehand, we had three TKers who betrayed and got summarily booted without scoring any kills on the other team. My teammate went for 29, I went for 21, and we actually won kind of easily by working together. It probably helps that the other side probably had their own knuckleheads, judging by the common names, symbols, and low scores for 2 of their people.

At least it wasn't Standoff, though. I don't know how many times I've been on that map 5 on 2 and the other side just running rampant with warthogs. That sucks. particularly when it's not a BR start and you don't spawn near anything that might give you the slightest chance to take out a vehicle.

The thruster and shield come way too late into the game. Thrusters are cool as hell but the shield is too fidgety

Yeah, as he said, "It's the new RRoD" but it's also covered under MS' blanket replacement policy. It's a step en route to experiencing RRoD anyway, so they fix it:
http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/nxe/kb.aspx?ID=969905&lcid=1033&category=hardware

This occurred on mine right after GTA IV came out, had to pay 12,000 yen for repair -- but for whatever reason, from pickup to drop-off, my repair took 5 days including the weekend. And with this revised policy, my money was recently refunded.

Finished Disney's Bolt, but can't generate the gumption to get all the side crap. Theoretically it's an easy 1000/1000 but I can't really stand the idea of playing it anymore. Despite the content being appropriate for my kids, my language when encountering crappy controls is not. Re-playing this with a guide of which crates and crate-analogs to break is not as attractive as moving on to Banjo Kazooie N&B, or even a few rounds of battling the AI in Brutal Legend's RTS mode.

Then again, that lovely Secret Santa copy of Little Big Planet is beckoning! Thanks, Borys!

Also started up Golden Sun in preparation for the new DS title. I haven't played 1 or 2 since they were released. The story is hilariously convoluted even for JRPG standards, but the visuals in combat still look great and I do remember the dungeons being fantastic -- especially in the sequel. I forgot how much of a drag the beginning is, though

In Halo 3 griefer news, there have been three times in a row I have been blatantly betrayed. No enemies in sight. No lingering shield damage from a prior encounter where someone could toss a grenade in and say "my bad." Three blatant, no excuse betrayals. Haven't had the option to boot even one of them.
