Some of the meat boy levels aren't so much luck as they are 100% memorization. Those are my least favorite levels. I hate having to memorize exactly where every bullet or death trap is going to be in order to pass a stage. That's also why I don't like 'memorizer' shooters. Everything should be dodgeable on reaction. >:(

Been playing RDR a whole bunch just trying to get the missions done. The more I play this game the more I want to see something on the next Bully, since the first has got to be my favorite PS2 game and I'd like for a sequel to come around.

Been playing Tail Concerto 2 on DS (Solatorobo) and it's sooooooo good.  True AAA polished game on the DS.  Didn't think those were possible!

entire thing runs at 60fps with great visuals :O

Started playing Zeno Clash cause I wanted to go through some of my short (<5 hour game) backlog.  At first I was like "nice art, but the combat is not fun and the game is kind of annoying to play" but as I got used to it I'm starting to warm up to the combat.  I think 1 on 1 it's pretty fun, but I'm still finding 3 on 1 fights to be kind of bs with the way the lock-on system works and your limited FoV with nonstop bobbing camera.

Played through Costume Quest
(snip)
Least favorite Double Fine game for sure.
:'(

Yeah, you know, I was wondering about the nature of "real" RPG players trying it. Your initial reaction was positive, so I thought it would be safe. I don't play PC/console RPGs at all, so the whole leveling up thing is kind of what I'm used to. Get just powerful enough that you can take on the next area's baddies is all I know. I don't really remember washing through a great number of low-level bad guys in a rush, at least not since playing MUDs.

I did feel progression, because I could see the hit-points were much higher, and I could see that I was dealing more damage. However, I didn't really feel challenged at any point because I'd always hit the obvious target first and hard: healing characters, summoning mages, and any specially-isolatable weapons. After that, it's just sweeping up the bricks.

The most ironic thing for me in your review is that you were grinding from mid- to endgame, but that was how I felt about DeathSpank.

Ah, well. I definitely felt like I got my money's worth. Sorry you didn't like it start-to-finish.

Yeah, a lot of the people who seem very positive on Costume Quest aren't big RPG fans. Downloaded the demo but haven't given it a try so I can judge for myself, yet. I generally like Schafer's style of writing/humor but the gameplay in his games doesn't work for me at all. Making a game in my favorite genre gives me some hope that this one won't fail on the gameplay portion, but it's easy to make a bad RPG too.

Been playing Metro 2033. I'm not too far in at the moment (chapter 4), but the game is great so far. It'll probably wind up being my favorite post-apocalyptic shooter by the time I'm finished. Nice linear levels and tons of attention to detail, just what I like.

Also, great graphics on the 360. I wonder how good the PC version looks..

Let's just say the 360 version is equivalent of "medium" on PC
and after trying it on "high", I refused to play it on medium because it looked so bad, even though my PC couldn't handle high.  So I've yet to play it, waiting until I get a new card.
And there is a "very high" setting above that one.

It's basically the next Crysis in terms of visuals and needing a super computer to max it.

I liked it.  Combat is shallow Diablo and there isn't enough useful loot, but fun world to explore with good writing/acting/graphics/music.

MLB 2K10

Supposedly it's not that good, but I really don't know enough about baseball video games to make that sort of determination. I have found, however, that I really like being able to create my own player and then follow his career through the minor league and into the majors. It's got some frustrating quirks that I'm not too fond of [like having support for the Xbox360 controller, but not having visual representations of the buttons appear on-screen]. I've also found that it's taking a really long time to get used to batting, I'm just not very good at it. I have been getting better, but it's a slow process. I'm still having fun though, so I'll keep playing it so more.

Finally got my 1000 on Ninja Blade. I didn't hate it as much as I was finishing it up. Game has its moments, but it's still a 5/10. But then again, maybe playing it for 15~ hours today has impaired my judgment.

And back to gamefly it goes. i won't miss it.

I think I'm hitting better in MLB 2K10 with the strike zone overlay disabled. It's neat, I suppose, but obscures the ball when as it gets closer to the plate, making it more difficult to judge timing.

Played through Malicious.  X360 fans aren't missing a whole lot.  Maybe by the time they make an improved and polished sequel that is truly awesome it will be multiplatform.  Or maybe someone will pick this one up for the US and port it to X360 while making major improvements.  It's a really good action game with a horrible camera, controls, framerate and balance.

Finished Metro 2033. Great game - my favorite FPS campaign of 2010. There are a couple sections toward the end that are awful, but other than that I have no complaints about the game. Now I need to go back and clean up a few achievements I missed for the 1000.

Hopefully I can beat everything in Super Meat Boy in the next 2 days because it's murdering my thumbs. :-\

I only have the dark world and warps of ch5, a bit of ch6, and Cotton Alley left to do. Oh, and 4 more glitch stages.

Finished up Zeno Clash this morning.

Really neat artstyle and sort of interesting world/story.  Gameplay was pretty average though.  It was fun for an hour or so but then you just keep fighting the same guys/girls over and over with the same limited 3-5 move combat.  By the end feels pretty repetitive and the controls with multi-enemies can be annoying, plus the whole forced weapon stuff sucks because it's really a melee game and non-melee option feel off.  Still worth playing through for the artistic world you adventure through.  But I hope the sequel has pretty upgraded gameplay and explains more since the ending in this was a bit...lacking :X

Really enjoying Rock Band 3 this weekend. Someone called this the end game for the music genre. If so, it's a fantastic Swan Song.

I'll post more detailed thoughts in the RB thread, but if you were on the fence at all about it, it's ka-blammo.

Not sure when I'm going to go back to Dead Rising 2 or Red Dead Redemption to do the Undead Nightmare stuff. I know the gameplay's entirely different, but I finished my initial DR2 play-through, started another, and have been re-reading The Walking Dead... I'm so full of DR2 and zombies, I don't know that I've got a lot of room or Red Dead Rising... if you know what I mean.

But at the same time I want to play a little more multiplayer before the servers become desolated or, worse, only populated by ass-hats who exclusively camp, snipe, and have clearly spent more time in multiplayer than is healthy.

What will the PC version have over the 360 version? Extra characters alone aren't enough for me to double dip. I wouldn't mind double dipping just to beat your times again though. :smug

Figured I'd start playing some more Burnout Paradise as I wait for my next set of Gamefly games. This is like my 5th time trying to like this game, and I think it's finally starting to click with me. I still don't like the open world, but at least I can navigate it now without having to look at the minimap every 5 seconds. The open world does have its advantages though; I like how a car can just come out of nowhere as you're cruising around, and if you take it down you unlock it. And I like how most of the time when you finish an event, you're right at a set of lights for the next event - which is usually something different from what you just played.

I still HATE the stunt events though. "Know where the stunts are around here? Prove it." NO DJ ATOMICA, I DON'T FUCKING KNOW WHERE THE STUNTS ARE

Burnout Revenge sucks. Okay not really, but it does in comparison to Burnout 3: Takedown. Criterion's NFS looks like the closest I'll get to a Takedown sequel.

Yes.  Crash mode was amazing in that game.

I'd like to see a BP2 with everything the same as BP except with BR crash mode events as well.
