Getting gold medals on the expert ring events in Hydro Thunder Hurricane is starting to piss me off. I can deal with the bad ring placement (a lot of them require you to know exactly where they will be because they don't give you enough time to react to them), but these fucking waves are driving me nuts. You have to know exactly when a wave is going to come in, because if you're not prepared for it your boat will go flying in some distinguished mentally-challenged direction, you'll hit the roof of a cave, blow up, and miss a bunch of rings and restart the race because if you miss more than one there's no way you'll get a gold.

Worst arcade racer ever. Who the fuck is Vector Unit anyway? Please never make a game again.

edit: actually it's not THAT bad. it's better than the first Motorstorm at least

2/8 gold medals down, yay. I will say, the game IS fun once you memorize all the bullshit, but it's still bullshit, sooooo...

Up to the 253 floor in persona 3. Is it worth doing all of the Paradigm door stuff? I've only done a couple so far.

Just spent a few more hours playing Crimzon Clover. This is the best indie game ever created. It is absolutely excellent, from top to bottom - it even outclasses several Cave games (including Daifukkatsu). On a good run I can make it to stage 5, so I think with some more practice I'll be able to clear it. Game's so good that I'm going to order myself a legit copy since it's only like $30. And rumor is, the creator of this game is a famous superplayer named Clover-TAC, which if true would make a lot of sense and be ridiculously awesome.

What are the odds of it coming to Steam, or any DD store in general?  Zero?  I downloaded a 'demo' and really enjoy it, even though it is hard as fuck.

Spent some more time playing Red Dead. Was kinda eh on the game at first, but now it's starting to click with me after doing more missions. It's about time we finally got another good western game, since Gun came out in like 2005 and Call of Juarez sucks.

I've also got Heavy Rain and Split Second coming in from Gamefly. Got lots of interesting things to play over the next week. :)

What are the odds of it coming to Steam, or any DD store in general?  Zero?  I downloaded a 'demo' and really enjoy it, even though it is hard as fuck.

It's not a zero percent chance since doujin games like Hitogata and Gundeadligne and Trouble Witches do get released on PSN/XBLA on occasion, but I'd say it's still pretty unlikely. I guess some publisher could come along and fund an XBLA port or something, but who knows really. It's certainly a more ambitious game than most doujin shooters and it looks like a commercial product, so I wouldn't be too surprised if something like that happened.

reached chapter 13,i went back to gran pulse so i could exact my revenge on those horrible goblins from mission 15,get some extra experience,5-star mission i didn't 5-star the first time and generaly dick around (probably going to get the chocobo achievements which i have completly neglected)

i heard that the small turtles drop upgrade catalyst which i need to upgrade lightining axis blade, are these guys found only on the leviathan plaza? i don't want to backtrack that much just for an upgrade.....

also does the fact that the game gave me a chance to turn back means that i'm near the last boss or is there some actual monster to bash before reaching the end?

I'm stuck at #14, gave up all hope.

Come on, dude. That's basically 3 more challenges and you unlock Event 4. Finish first there, you're in. You can do this.

eh i'm a pretty big final cigarillo myself,i finished every main except 2 (not going near a kawazu game with a ten-foot pole) i also finished tactics, mystic quest, tactics advance and uh... yea that's pretty much it

EDIT: cigarillo? uh? what is this? SA? also on retrospect i didn't finish final fantasy 3 but that's more because they were distinguished mentally-challenged and decided to make the final dungeon a 1 hour and half slog without a single savepoint in the middle (yes i died at the final boss >:()

From my POV you're all masochists.

Given my limited playtime with FF13 I'd rather play Final Fantasy 14 than give Final Fantasy 13 another go.

And I mean, damn, Final Fantasy FOURTEEN, man. That's the one where pounding a rusty nail through your dick is vaguely more entertaining than actually playing the game.

Ugh... the "level" after Brescha Lake and its Temple, the Junkyard (?) is just atrocious. Ugly, dark and with shitty robotic enemies that take hours to kill. I'm happy that I finally unlocked the ability to upgrade items, yay!

Is every boss battle in FF13 following the same pattern? RAV / COM > MED > RAV / COM > STAGGER! > RAV / COM etc. Gets kind of boring after while.

Bosses look very cool, but I'd say not as cool as FF12 Espers.

Mateus, Addramelech, Zeromus >>> shitty FF13 Eidolons.

Jesus, FF13 is not a bad game, it's actually kind of cool but FF12 destroys it in every fucking way possible... how could Square take such a big step backwards?

i TOLD you. It starts out well enough, but then the junkyard part happens. The chapter after it almost as bad. Luckily chapters 6-9 are great.

Huh? It makes for better encounters. FF12's encounter system is amazing. On a regular basis, you can be jumped by 10-12 enemies at once with no transition.

Getting jumped by at least 12-15 flans in one room in the mines? Only possible in FF12.

Superior total.

And I fail to see how it's a step towards western rpgs. :wtf

I like being able to see enemies.  Makes for a better difficulty level and incentive to revisit some spots.  If that T-rex at the beginning of FFXII was just a random encounter, that would be some bullshit that would make me quit the game.  But knowing it's there and that it could kick the shit out of me made me wanna level up so I could go back and kick its ass later.  Random encounters limit what enemies they can put in an area, so if you're at a certain level, you have no reason to revisit areas where all the enemies are weak.

If FFXIII's battle system just had a little more customization from FFXII the game would be a lot better. Gambits >>>>>>>>>>> Auto Battle/Paradigms

Still a good game though and it's a great stoner game (so simple and repetitive and has great eye candy), battles largely consist of pressing x and pressing L1,  and upgrading is use 36 sturdy bones get 3X multiplier use mechanical upgrade, rinse and repeat. Easily the most repetitive RPG I've played this gen, yet I'm enjoying it quite a lot still.

Conviction feels like one long tutorial, what the fuck. And the damned lights don't make any sense in terms of spread and reach, never mind the fact that light sources are sometimes completely invisible. This game feels less like a retooling and more like the shitty back-up plan to use when the first idea turns out to be too ambitious. God damn it.

Also, this is some ugly shit.

gee i can get attacked by a lot of enemies, like that isn't annoying enough everytime any dragon quest game gives me the boat

Quote
And I fail to see how it's a step towards western rpgs. :wtf

well have you ever seen a western rpg that didn't feature some sort of open field and no transition in battle?

Quote
One thing more: I think FF12 was the thinking man's FF game, at least for the good first part of the game. It was required to think how to deal with Marks

nononono,i loved FFX boss, you had that dragon that breathed into your party so you had to time when to retreat the ship (which made haste and therefore tidus essential) or that giant clawed gatekeeper that hit 3 character at once unless they wasted turn spreading around... those were cool!

FFXII has that giant bomb that when he reaches critical, heal himself, cast all the possible buff on himself and then start spamming firaga spell until everybody is dead, that's stupid beyond recognition and i can't name any other rpg that pulls the same kind of shit on the player
and what's the solution to this? "one guy tanks, one guy heals, one guy attack"

i mean you guys complain that all you do in FFXIII is attack the boss and heal when needed but you aren't telling me exactly what were you expecting instead or how FFXII is better

Most wrpgs don't really feature open fields. That's mostly a Bethesda thing. If anything big open fields is more of a jrpg thing. As for lack of transitions, yeah, many wrpgs feature that. And for the better.

And getting surprised attacked by a crazy amount of enemies is awesome because you have to think and come up with a strategy on the fly. Something, that is lacking in 3d FF. FF12 was the first 3d FF to get it right. That element of surprise, that "holy shit I'm fighting like 10 dudes right now!!!" which every past 3d FF ignored, pitting you against merely 2-3 enemies at once at all times.

FF12 did a lot right, and the encounter system is among the best.

Oh man. That description of the bomb fight in the jungle was so :bow worthy. Actually having to use buffs and create dedicated healers :bow in a Final Fantasy?!!?!?!? :bow

Just started Bayonetta.  WTF, game is 10x dumber than the worst of MGS.   :lol

The controls are real fluid though and the combat is worth learning, unlike God of Bore.  But the in-time graphics are kinda underwhelming  almost like a Xbox 1 game stretched to widescreen in HD.

Why do the cut-scenes look so much better?  Based on the image quality, they do seem to be real time.

BUT I DO USE BUFF AND HAVE DEDICATED HEALERS IN FF13 AND THERE IS NO BUFF WHICH TRIPLICATE THE HP OF MY PARTY THEREFORE MAKING IT ALMOST INVINCIBLE SFHJLKASFHLKJASFHL

*sigh*

anyway,i finished it,it was really good especialy coming from the emptiness that is the wii software library,i think the best part was palumpolum,it's probably the best looking place of the whole game and it's also where most of the story happens... anyway if i had to nitpick

1) while i don't think it's as bad as people says i do think the game somewhat drags, special offender are chapter 1 and chapter 5 which really are just a bunch of hallways and chapter 10 where i swear i got across the same gigantic room thrice, they could have made some cut since it's not like the game is short or that they didn't draw enough stuff so i'm not sure why they feeled into making these longer

2) the combat really shines with a party of 3 so having a party of 2 for quite a big chunk of the game was an awfull idea, this is especialy true everytime you have to play the sazh/vanille team since they both kinda sucks at offense,in fact i'm pretty sure the only reason sazh has the commando role is because otherwise team sazh/vanille would be completly unplayable,i would have add some guest character, you have them in chapter 1 when playing as snow so why not in the other chapter too?

3) serah is the only character i hate with passion, she's like the teenager version of holy mary and the whole love story seems written by an angsty teenager, everytime i had to see a flashback involving serah i wanted to choke myself! seriously WTF nomura? it's not like the other character sucks so why did you screw up this one?

4) while i do like the character they do tend to randomly break up in monologue about HOPE,DREAMS,FRIENDSHIP,FUTURE,DESTINY... sometimes it feels a little overdone especialy in the ending

5) the whole gran pulse bit seems a little tackled on,the heroes go there, read some magic stone and then return to eden none the wiser, the hell?

6) you have 6 character but there is little reason to use any team other than lighting/hope/fang at first you have a reason to pick between hope and sazh or fang and vanille since they offer different buff and debuff skill but then that difference is gone and you are simply left to pick the guy with better stat and skill combination..... on this note i'm gratefull that you don't have to use snow to get trough the game, seriously having to use a tank sucks, make the enemies hits everyone and have them hit moderately hard

7) the bestiary kinda sucks, while i don't like FFXII i did like how it gave you a story or stuff like that everytime you filled a page (tough the fact that you had to murder several monster of the same kind to completly fill the page was distinguished mentally-challenged but well it's FFXII.....) here you simply get shit like "USES THUNDER ATTACK!" and you can't even rotate the 3D model or something.....

mmm what else can i say that i haven't already said... the battle system is really good, you pick action but it happens so fast, especialy after your character learn haste,it's true that you are mashing X and pressing L1 once in a while but this happens in split seconds! it certainly beat a lot of other battle system, the final boss was quite impegnative,i filled all of my crystarium and he still gave me some problem (tough i didn't fully upgrade my weapon so maybe that explains why) also it's music rock!

the reason why i liked this game is the same reason i liked persona 2,i liked the character,i wanted to see how the rest of the plot hold up and what happened next, what place they went after,i liked the music,i didn't mind that every battle was solved by a simple cast of triple tech nor did i mind that the game was just one linear dungeon after another (no actualy sometimes you get a maze which is twice as annoying since you get jumped by random encounter everytime you want to backtrack)

bet that when the game hits the PSP in 2011 you aren't going to see any review talking about how horribly linear the game is but they will talk about the MATOOR character and the AWESOME strategy (which will involve casting a buff once in a while, healing when needed and spamming your best spell which the boss is weak too) like with nintendo if you are called atlus you can get by with any shit you want but be final fantasy (or viceversa be obscure and scrubby enough like my dear shiren :'() and prepare to carry every JRPG sin evah!

ultimately i would put the game somewhere near the bottom of the good final fantasy (which is still above FF8 and FF12 which are in the bad final fantasy drawer :smug) TWEWY still remains the best squaresoft game i played in recent years

oh also i got 585 gamer point out of it.... still trying to go for the 1000

Alien vs Predator (the newest one)

I remember people really hating on this but I'm nearly done the marine section and it's alright.  Not great or anything, but still entertaining as a fan of Aliens.  On that, it's kinda funny how dated this game is that modern conventions like a melee feels wrong.  They actually have a melee system with blocks, attacks, and counters I think.  But if you just mash it works like in Left 4 Dead, which is ridiculous since you're at most up against three or four of these aliens instead of swarms of them.  Also if you watched any alien movie, the image of a wimpy marine punching an xenomorph to the ground is hilarious.

If anyone else played it on consoles, does that version have this crazy motion blur? I'm playing it on PC and it actually looks kinda nice (the blur effect).  Surprised me since this is a rebellion game published by sega.

FF13 review

Here's mine:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=20628239&postcount=287

yea the AI gets the job done (which again is better than a lot of other game like persona 3) but sometimes the choice it picks are baffling, the worst is when you pick the COM/COM/RAV optima and the AI commando goes attacking the other non-staggered monster >:(

oh and here's another nitpick!

8 ) i could put hope as a leader and do the synergist job myself, but since the fight is over as soon as the leader dies and hope has half the HP of all the other character,by picking hope as the leader i'm shooting myself in the foot! who tought that was a good idea? it was stupid in persona 3 too

and by the way

spoiler (click to show/hide)
this game has tonberries, your argument is invalid
[close]

also while we are here, when should i start farming turtles? my character have already more than 10.000 HP and fang has already 2000 ATT? is that enough?

I don't remember the exact requirements, but 10k hp and 2k attack sounds about right. You just need to be able to survive two or three stomps without healing.

And by the way magus, if you want to 1000 Lost Odyssey, you will NEED a guide for the achievement you get for opening every treasure chest in the game.

well as i said i want to 1000/1000 final fantasy 13 possibly but the next one would be lost odyssey,i was all ga-ga over mistwalker when they announced their project and was really annoyed about not being able to play them

it's a little sad to see how ultimately they didn't make any big impact on the market and had to cancel cry-on

Yeah,it's a shame.Good game,it will be interesting to hear your thoughts, because the rest of us played LO and then FF13.
According to this MS owns Lost Odyssey IP
http://www.microsoft.com/about/legal/en/us/IntellectualProperty/Trademarks/EN-US.aspx

but they are now too busy milking their new found casual love.

Maybe next gen :(

I started Ratchet and Clank: Crack in Time

This game is sooooo good. After the abysmal shitfest that was Sly, this game is a reminder that the Ratchet series has always been a solidly built and designed game since its inception. Very same-y, but yet still feels good to play every iteration.

Sly 4 is gonna be so garbage.

Rachet & Clank was the only mascot franchise from Sony that I liked last gen. Good to see that it's the only one still alive.

Even though R&C sucks as a platformer and the AI is too dumb for a shooter, I still enjoyed playing it because the guns are so cool.  Jak and Dexter is still better though when it's just focused on platforming and not GTA-lite elements.

What's so bad about Sly?  I got the first two games but never really had time to play them beyond the first level.  Gameplay seemed decent at first glance and the cell shading visuals were some of the best on the PS2.

Sly 1 is great, Demi is off his rocker.

Release Jak trilogy for ps3, enable warping in Jak 2 so we don't have the suffer through the game's only flaw -- that being the overworld -- PLEASE.

I trusts Demi's tastes more than yours though.  You recommended me shitty shit Persona 3 which wasted 50 hrs of my life and I still didn't get to beat it.

That's because you're a homo. Don't blame me you don't get one of the best jrpgs ever.

For the record though, Sly 2 and 3 are pretty barf. But Sly 1 is great.

Ok, it wasn't bad for the first 3 sections of the tower.  It just dragged on way too long for a game that wasn't introducing any new gameplay.  Also, the monotonic dungeon graphics are depressing, at least on the PSP.  Were they a little better on the PS2?

I haven't played P3P though I'm going to get it.

I admit P3 probably isn't for everyone, but the formula really clicked with me. I would play that game in the wee hours of morning just saying,"one more day!"

The last game that did to me, honestly.

aww come on guys don't fight :(

aaaaaaaaanyway i finished all the titan trials and they were a pain in the ass, having to repeat the same marks six times = not fun,the last fight looked like the most difficulty fight evah! but if you have a tank it's impossible to die and it's really only a matter of punching him for 10 minutes because he has like 9 million HP.... lame

the only mark i'm missing right now is
spoiler (click to show/hide)
giant kyactuar
[close]
and the special 7 (2 of them i have already done) that transform the adamantium turtle into long gui's....

anyhow Magus you sohuld give Tales of Vesperia a whirl after FFXIII, Lost Odyssey is good too. LO is an awful 1000, though. I never did get that Treasure Trove achievement. I'm still cut up after all these years  :(
