Is there some custom config trick to make Mass Effect look less like rotten ass? I have everything set to the highest, and it still looks like flat and low res shit.

:wtf

ME is one of the best looking UE3.0 games out there right along Mirror's Edge. Pity you don't find it good looking :( The character models (aliens) are insane. And no there are no hacks or tweaks to make it look better.

Well, it's hard to find it good looking when it looks like rotten ass. Like I said, I like the designs, clean sci-fi is neat, but technically, it's a mess of bug ugly textures, weird shadows and flat yet blooming lighting. It's bad enough to make me wonder if it's an ATi bug, but looking at other media, I guess this is how it really looks. Mass Effect 2 had better look half a generation ahead of this.

ME1 on PC looked fine once I turned off the blur and grain.  Not super impressive or anything, but definitely better than the 360 version or default settings.

Why would people turn off the grain???  Do you guys play Left 4 Dead without grain as well?

Grain filters are awesome!

Grain filters are shit when they feel like filters, like they do in ME and L4D. KZ2 (only example I can think of) was more tolerable because it felt like a planned aspect of the whole post-effects bundle. MAG was the worst of them all.

Mass Effect's grain filter made the game look ugly.

Well, uglier. The game is already ugly as sin.

I like things that are well designed. So, a game in which the grain filter is a part of an effects package, that may work, and sometimes it even works well. If it's just a fullscreen filter that you can turn on or off then it's going to be lame.

No, it's like playing some game with a shitty filter. It's crap, dude. There is, at most, a handful of games with proper grain filters, the rest suck ass.

Grain filters are the worst.  It just makes games look uglier for no reason; doesn't even make sense when you're supposed to be the character.

Also, huge huds (Halo 3/ODST) and shadowing on the edge (Pure) of the screen suck.

Cooling off from bayonetta with Sacred 2.

as soon as I opened the map, I remembered why I quit the first time...this game is too huge.  Like, I've got 20 hours in, but I've explored 10% of the map and have about 50 active quests.

hard mode is fine.  This is one of those games where normal is pretty easy, with a few tricky parts (for an experienced action game fan.)

I didn't break to play ALL of Sacred 2, it was only for like 2 hours.  jeez JUST GET OFF MY BACK GOD FUCK I'M LEAVING THE FORUM EVERYONE I CARE ABOUT CAN REACH ME ON LIVEJOURNAL

But that's money that could go towards Bayonetta.  Or $60 worth of tacos.  It's a shame that Mass Effect 2 won't present binary moral conundrums with even that amount of depth.  All the shit they're saying about "OMG permanent deaths throughout the story!" is bullshit.  you'll get like 2 seconds worth of different cutscene if you choose a different path.  you'll be playing for those cutscenes too since the gameplay is more shallow than a kiddy pool aka you fail at life for not buying Bayonetta.  The end.

Just finished achievement-whoring my way through a borrowed copy of TMNT: the movie game, not one of the ports of the old arcade stand-up machines. Oh my fucking god, this game is crap. Crap, crap, crap. I am no longer in love with Ubi's Montreal studio.

Stuntman Ignition is pretty neat, but I wish there was an official, no-stress "dry run" mode, because it feels unrealistic that the director is letting me go back and do stuff 20 times. This would be a series of catastrophically expensive mistakes if it were a real movie production.  :-\ Sadly, this game feels like it would have been a really nice rental, it's practically made for the rental crowd, which means no sales which means no sequel. If memory serves, THQ closed this studio and abandoned this IP. It's tragic, because this could have had some insane opportunities for furthering the license

I really enjoyed this, but you're right about the dry run. I don't even think you get an overhead map view beforehand to plan out your run.

It's the ultimate in infuriating trial and error, especially on some of the later ones. "HIT THE JUMP", yeah ok, but I can't fucking see it you dick.
Yeah, one of my friends calls this type of game DIAS, for "Do It Again, Stupid." I had some of that happen in the Odd Jobs category; those only allow one missed Stunt, and I kept failing in the same spot, with no CLUE as to what was wrong. I used Easy Mode just to be able to go off path long enough to find out where I was supposed to be.

Overall though, the presentation's good, the learning curve and player feedback are well implemented. The overhead map you proposed would be a really nice touch. There's something similar in the unlocked concept art, which look like they were roughs laid out by game designers; I don't know why they didn't just provide one of those with the final run instead of the useless voiceover and one or two storyboard shots.

The train is SO SLOW and you can't just put the DS down and let it auto-drive because enemies will attack you and you will die and restart back at the last town :\
So if you are driving at least know exactly where to go next.  If you aren't sure and are going to have to drive all over creation at 10mph you will want to kill yourself.

The train is by far the worst transportation ever in Zelda.

ok so i wanted to pick some old rpg so i gave shin megami tensei (the original on the snes fantranslated) a spin but surrendered after finding myself without any sort of direction to where to go and unable to take more than a single step with the screen flashing at me for a few seconds after one of my character got hit by a status ailment so i said "fuck this" then i remembered there is a sequel and wondered "maybe the sequel is less stupid" and surprise! it actualy is less stupid! i've just defeated the first boss

Are you playing this on pc? If so, what website did you find it on?

actualy on my wii,the couch gives me super patience power (and the lack of the frameskip button  :-[) you just need a translation and a rom,i'm not sure i can link you (just google it) to the rom but here is the translation

http://agtp.romhack.net/project.php?id=smt

as for applying as long as the rom and the patch have the same name it should work, alternatively try any ips patcher

if you need a snes emulator try ZSnes or Snes9x,you can both the emulator and the ips patcher at zophar.net

anyway i just beated the second boss,i return triumphant to the HQ and the game tells me "YOU HAVE TO DEFEAT THE SECOND BOSS!" and i was like "what the heck? but i did that!" i wandered for a while like an idiot then decided to ask gamefaqs, turns out there is a really weak miniboss to fight somewhere on the world map that i didn't notice... what the heck? why? what's the point? why old games need bullshit such as this?

another things that's so damn stupid it would broke my stupidometer if i ever had one, items have no description "why is that a problem a lot of old rpg didn't have description" well turns out that this one HAS description! you just have to ask to a shop and pay a fee everytime you want to see the description of an item

let me repeat this

YOU HAVE TO GO TO A SHOP IN TOWN AND PAY MONEY EVERYTIME YOU WANT TO SEE THE DESCRIPTION OF AN ITEM
I love how DQ4 completely shoves a finger in your ass.

well to be fair you can make a shitload of money on torneko chapter so it wouldn't be fair,on the other side of the road since you do keep your item you could have spent your entire fortune in swords and then sell all of them back to get half of what you had so yeah it's still incredibly dumb
