other than various mods from the site great rumbler posted (i vaguely remember someone collecting great mods, but I don't know if I can find the link) I think morrowind is one of those games to go into without knowing much.  The real joy of that game is exploring around.

Elderscrolls is fun if you don't try to beat it.

this too.  the main quests and stuff are usually boring compared to the random people and quests you stumble upon.

I'll probably avoid the graphic mods as I'm a bit lazy but I'll try some of the better game experience ones

I don't remember downloading this but it was on my PS3.  It's just some guy sitting in the chair that and hitting button combos and messing the controller makes his head turn into an elephant or dance around or just freak out.

I ended up buying Ketsui for J360 @$80.  I'd been holding off for a possible US release since my J360 is post-red-ring-gonna-die-any-die.  But then I saw on gaf that Ibara PS2 has shot up to $200!  Between that and Ketsui DS being worth over $100, I get the feeling that low selling/low shipment Cave games are good investments.  You get to play them and enjoy them and then in 2-3 years at best they'll be worth 2-4x what you paid for them and at worst they'll be worth half of what you paid for them (Dodon Ps2 & Espgaluda are still ~$50).  Hope I'll get a few weeks of enjoyment out of Ketsui before X360 dies!

Still holding off on Death Smiles 2 though.  Mainly because it looks kinda eh, and also because possible US release & possible "greatest hits" Japan release (deathsmiles 1 got a greatest hits release) means it'll be cheaper eventually.

Yeah, Death Smiles 2 sold really well (for a shooter anyway) so it won't be going away any time soon. On the other hand, Ketsui tanked, and it's a 5pb game, so who knows how much longer it will be around. I've been scoping out Dodonpachi DOJ BLEX on ebay for a while and it seems to stay around $70-$80, even after being out of print for so long. I didn't want to order it until the patch is out, but at this point I'm going to assume that's been canceled after failing certification. Or maybe Mihara is still killing himself trying to get it done, I haven't kept up on it.

I played some more Snoopy Flying Ace yesterday.  Some of the SP missions can be pretty challenging if you're a novice pilot like myself.  I was getting absolutely trashed in MP, but it was still fun to watch all the chaos.

I like where they're heading with SC but the shooting needed to be better for the new action-oriented paradigm.

I'm at Chapter 8 in Final Fantasy XIII.  I'm warming up to the corridors.  SE decided to stop making generic sci fi environments and added some variety to the landscapes.  The gameplay is getting more interesting as I get more and more abilities from the Crystarium.  I'll keep playing through.

FINALLY beat the fucking shaman in Sin and Punishment 2... after something like 30 tries. Next stage doesn't seem so bad so far, granted I can't make it more than one checkpoint without dying, but so far I haven't been stuck yet. Will hopefully get my Normal playthrough with Kachi done soon. Then doing an Easy playthrough with Isa.

I finished Deus Ex Invisible War  :dur

Really weird game.  The parts I didn't play in the past was just Deus Ex 1 fanservice despite the game moving further and further away from what made the first game good.  I mean, some of the early areas aren't that bad.  Areas are tiny, there are few ways to approach objectives, and it reminds me more of Riddick than the first game, but it is somewhat enjoyable.  The most fun to have in the game is punching people in the face.  Stealth is total shit in the game the stun weapon is shit, so running up to enemies and punching them twice is more efficient.  Then it becomes weird and straight forward and the fanservice is shit and then it ends and you're confused because it didn't feel like you've done anything that triggered the ending.

also tried the Kane and Lynch 2 demo. pretty fun.  the entire visual style is supposed to replicate a grainy handheld camera.  it's kinda weird to praise a game that uses occasional artifacts, tearing, etc as part of the visual style but it looks cool.  the loading screens even have a youtube like "buffering" thing pop up.

Ah, the Shaman boss is the only one that's given me too much trouble so far. I could do the fight perfectly up until all the spikes started falling, it took a couple deaths before I figured out what to do with the meteor too. Stage 5 is awesome, not nearly as long as the others, it's pretty much boss after boss after awesome boss.

Yea, Stage 5 was pretty short and easy, went through w/o much trouble. Stage 6 is a bit trickier so far, but is filled with lots of great setpieces, including one that reminds me of the legendary Aircraft Carrier level from the first game (but not as cool). Now I'm up to the "crane" boss, it's pretty tricky so far, but I think I can manage.

I think the first game had better setpieces, but this one is more fulfilling with vastly superior controls. Fantastic game.

Ketsui is good times.  I'm terrible at it, but it's fun.  Gives me a DDP DoJ feeling except harder ^^;

The DS boss rush really helped a lot for the boss patterns.  They're a lot faster here (the stage 3 mid-boss ship goes by in an instant in this one) but I recognized a lot of the patterns.  The stages though, maaaaan.

On a sadder note the disc came loose and scratched up :(  So much for my pristine $200 copy of Ketsui in 3 years when the price shoots up  :-\
Game runs fine though.  It's probably like 100megs big so I'm guessing most of the disc is unused.

Yeah, Ketsui is too hardcore for me.  I can appreciate it, but for my normal human skill level the game stops being fun by stage 3 and just becomes bomb, bomb, die.  The bosses aren't too bad, but the stages are just insane.  I feel like your ship is really underpowered for a Cave shmup.  Even at max power it takes forever to kill big enemies with full lock on and meanwhile more and more enemies and bullets flood the screen and trap you.  Also no bullet-cancelling means you get trapped to a side and you either bomb or your dead :X  Hard game is hard.

I think my personal enjoyment of the Cave games on X360 goes Death Smiles = Futari >> Esp II > Ketsui.  I like DS & Futari because they are more accessible and easier to enjoy for the normal gamer.  Esp II is freaking hard but at least it has novice modes and stuff, and Ketsui is just brutal, wish it had a novice mode ;_;  Will not be 1cc-ing this ...ever.  I prefer the DS version because it moves at like 1/2 the speed and gives you time to actually avoid the patterns!

Ketsui is growing on me.  Can get to the start of stage 3 on 1cc if I bomb a lot.
Also did another run through of Death Smiles for old times sake and wasn't feeling it as much as I did back when it first came out.  I think yeah, Futari > DS.

I love Mushi Futari, Death Smiles, and Ketsui pretty equally. Though at this point I have more issues with Futari than DS and Ketsui, but I've played Futari waaaay more so maybe that will change over time. Espgaluda 2 is definitely my least favorite Cave 360 game right now, but I still haven't bothered to properly learn the scoring system. It's so needlessly complex.

The latter half of stage 4 is where Ketsui really starts to ramp up for me. I usually wind up dying once or twice on stage 3 because I try to kill the giant boat without bombing in order to get the extra life, but I can't dodge it consistently yet.

Anyway, I 1240'd Magna Carta 2. Pretty meh game. It's basically a single player MMO. I was liking it at first, but it never really evolves. It's just the same exact gameplay from start to finish more or less. The story is generic and predictable, the music is mostly forgettable, the graphics are meh, the combat is kinda fun but super repetitive. In the final quarter of the game, I was just wishing it would end already. It's not the worst RPG ever though, I'd just rank it well below stuff like Enchanted Arms and Operation Darkness (which I enjoyed quite a bit).

Got around to trying Puzzle Agent.  It's neat!

It's Layton but with non-wacky-jappy art and animation.  Really nice looking 2d animation.  I think I prefer it to Telltales 3d games.
If you like Layton it's probably worth a play.  Or you can just try the demo:

Professor Layton = Highlights for Kids: The Game

Anyway, at Chapter 9 at FFXIII.  I got Tales of Vesperia in the mail and I'm halfway tempted to send FFXIII in now and re-rent the game later down the road.  I think it is picking up and I am starting to like it, in spite of the corridor gameplay.  Got some decent abilities (:bow Haste :bow2) that make the game a little less repetitive looking.  It is a museum game through and through but it isn't that bad!

Dark Void Zero is pretty alright.  I only played the first level and it seems like metroid-light.

Controls take some getting used to  You enter the hover mode by double tapping jump (regular thrust is holding down jump) and in that mode you move and aim in the same direction, so you can't move right while aiming up.  It's weird because the jump button doesn't do anything in that mode and you expect it to lock your aim in a certain direction like other games do.  But I think it is clever how it sort of has a cover system.  You can't duck and shoot at the same time, but the way enemies attack make it so you want to duck, wait, then pop up and shoot.

95 hours in Xenoblade!

ENDGAME TIME.  At the final dungeon. Lotta new endgame optional content opened up including the crazyy bonus dungeon.  Will do as much as I can and then finish it.  Story is good, gameplay is good.  Very likely that in terms of square footage, Xenoblade is the largest jrpg ever and bigger than most wrpgs that aren't overkill like Daggerfall.  Even if you skipped all the quests and story, just exploring all the areas out fully would probably take 30-50 hours of running around.  Tons of variety in locals too and greaaaaaat, I mean really great, dungeon design.

Ys IV: Mask of the Sun

It's weird that Ys IV on SNES and PC Engine are 2 completely different games, with only a few similarities between them... finding this out, I decided to go and play the SNES fan translation... since I beat the PCE one a while back. I think a few Ys fans prefer the SNES game, but I feel the PCE one is a lot better... more interesting dungeons, better controls and mechanics (you can actually move and attack diagonally!), really touchy combat (in the SNES game you have to be much more precise to strike a direct hit on an enemy), less of a story, no animu character art/cinematics aside from the intro...

Still I'm gonna trudge through, I think I'm at the halfway point even after only playing 4 or so hours. Another plus for the PCE one, the game is much longer. Still, this is the only Ys game not translated (or fan translated) to English that I haven't beaten. Good way to build into Ys 7 coming out here.
