whelp i finished the first mayhem event (the one with the lame reward apparently >:() by using tons of satchel charges on fences,it was a lot easier to go around the house and destroy every fence than by driving the bulldog and destroy every police force but the 2nd alternative was a lot more fun

Uncharted 3 Beta is hot. Been getting in matches easily and they've all been good and lag free. Buddy deathmatch and the survival mode are great, and the CoD like perks/loadouts and progression are welcome additions, and I like sprinting :) Maps are massive and I love the multiple sections to the different modes, for instance in horde you seemlessly change between different objectives like 'hold this area' or 'get the treasure' or simply survive the waves any way you can, or in deathmatch where on the Airfield map, you begin on a plane (or trucks following the plane) trying to take off shooting at the opposing team in trucks which trying to storm you through the cargo bay. Really awesome little high speed intro to the deathmatch, and there's lots of other little cinematic additions I like. Maps are massive too with lots of vertical play, and the lighting is stunning. Playing this makes me want to pre order U3.

Also playing a lot of TF2 atm. Getting fairly good at playing a decent heavy, medic and pyro. Will be sticking with this for a while.

And....

Ocarina of Time for the first time, got that GC Zelda collectors edition package. I'm really enjoying it, not as good as Wind Waker or MM though. At least it hasn't grabbed me the way those games did. Up to the Forest Temple. Worst dungeon so far, Jabu Jabu's Belly was awesome though, and Barinade was the best boss so far too.

Batman AA - Loving it, it's sad it took me so long to properly get around to playing this again.

Tales of Vesperia - about 30 hours or so in. Hoping to finish it off this week, great game but I've taken way too long getting around to finishing it.

Child of Eden - Played the first few levels last night, seems really cool but I sucked. Only 2 stars on my first and second runs even though I thought I was doing alright. Going to leave this for a bit and finish off some other games so I can dedicate proper time to getting good at this.

Batman AA is absolutely superb up until the last couple of hours, where it gets a bit repetitive. The final boss fight is also a let-down too. That's about the only real complains I can muster, everything else is great.

I played a bit and it's pretty good! controls are tighter and shooting feels better than in Uncharted 2.  The lobby interface is cluttered but snappy and well integrated into the whole experience.  You're never really sitting idly by waiting for a match.

The brah mechanics! press down to dap your brah! my brah can pick up treasures for me! I can spawn on my brah!  rollin' round spawning RPGs and shit BREAK YOURSELF

the melee system is still dumb

and yeah, that intro bit on the trucks for the airfield map is cool.  It's like that snow truck sequences from Uncharted 2.

lol yeah the brah mechanics are boss. Would be good if you could break out of the dap animation early in case of ambush though, me and my bud got double teamed while bro fisting over a corpse. It's sweet how there's loot as well, seems like it's only really for costumes though...

Started playing guild wars again in prep for the sequel I have eotn coming so I can put in my progress. Right now I am running into a wall with the Gates of Madness mission in Nightfall. First the portals screwed me over, but I found the easier path through them. Now the final two bosses are raping me. It's really just the Shiro boss who goes into godmode and then slices through my party. I'm playing solo with all heroes. I may ask for help, but I am going to try a new strategy.

I'm actually playing through Guild Wars for the first time, I got it in a Steam sale. I like soloing more for some reason. The bots are the same but I get to decide where we go and what is "fun" I guess.

Maybe you'll like this or not, I thought I could fight the Charr at the Great Northern Wall because I was level 9 and they were only level 8.

Localization is really a problem; most times the translators don't even play the game, in my experience. But for what it's worth, a lot of native English speakers playing the English version of the game had the same problem.

I can't even remember what Vandalism side mission is. Mayhem? Are you breaking a lot of stuff?

You can get the Bear, and even trick it out in Saints barding:
spoiler (click to show/hide)
[close]

However, IIRC you can't drive and shoot at the same time. The gunner's seat can be occupied by a co-op partner, or maybe even a gang subordinate.

Is this you? You've done me proud. Make everything PURPLE. Everything in my garage is purple. Even the cop cars. Fuck it. MAKE EVERYTHING PURPLE.

This one ain't mine, I just found it online.

But I do have the full pimp outfit, pimp cane, and a Bear tricked out exactly like this. I think I did it in three shades of purple, and kept all the metal as gold. Same rims, I think.

aaaaaaaaand done with the brotherhood

brotherhood mission were awfull, especialy the one on the boat, you have to take down the helicopter and they just keep moving but at the same time they don't shoot at you or do anything other than circle the boat! it's like having to swat a bunch of mosquito's!

anyway i guess that means only a few game ending missions remains?

Brotherhood missions own but that mission is indeed terrible. the only bad story mission in the game, really.

But Brotherhood is great because the war just keeps escalating. You want to split the city 50/50? Fuck that. I'm a ballah. So you go to a nuclear waste plant, grab some toxic waste, and put it in your rival's tattoo needles so that when he's getting his next tattoo he gets nuclear waste implanted on his face.

That? That is hardcore.

And this is without mentioning Carlos, Jessica, the guitarist. Goddamn, Brotherhood.

I decided to play some Crystal Bearers today because I hate myself. The only good thing about it is that the main guy is kind of a jerk, but he really should have been more of jerk and the game should have just been played as a straight-up comedy instead of trying to be semi-serious.

well i still have to finish saints row 2 but i doubt my opinion will change much after the ending...

...so what i think of the game? i got cheated by it in the same ways i got cheated by darksiders, people talked about the game "like gta but fun!" but instead i got "like gta but like gta!" personaly i don't like the game for the same reason i never liked gta that much,i'm not a fan of the drive and gun gameplay,i don't like how the music consist of a bunch of random selected licensed piece's and everytime a cutscene starts inside a strip club i feel like the game is being "ehy look at me! i'm edgy and trying to end up on some cheap news bulletin about enraged soccer moms!"

that said,i think it plays better, car have more arcadey controls,if the cops gets you the game don't just declare "BUSTED!!!" and proceed to remove all your weaponry, missions have checkpoint....

the side activities are also really fun, especialy when compared to the awful side jobs of gta (though it's not like this game doesn't feature any crappy taxi/ambulance side mission >:() and i like how you get tons of cool reward like reduced damage and extra ammo but there are also tons of stinker (like septic avenger... no pun intended!)

i had fun in some bits and it's not like the lame bits were bad but i can't help but think i should have got crackdown instead

that said while the game has a definite lacks of whimsy barring some visual gags (like being able to turn every gang member into a ninja) i have to say it

i love how the game makes constantly fun of him, when he switch radio to some cheesy 80 pop music and the main character goes "i didn't know you grow a vagina!" i smirked like an idiot, now that was clever and funny

anyway next up i want to pick something japanese... i'm really weighting toward something like infinite undiscovery but i'll hear someone who can make a convincing argument about why i should give a try to any musou game

PIERCE!!!! :bow

*sings So Sick*

I dunno how SR2 lacks whimsy. The game is hilarious.

I like how the boss just starts THROWING the balls after a few times. :lol

Or every time Pierce does something and they give credit to Shaundi :lol

Or when Pierce goes to a strip club and says "nice shoes" :lol

Or when your characters sings Take on Me

Or the multitude of badass shit your character does.

Saints Row 2 is fucking hilarious. ???

Glad you gave it a shot, Magus!

:lol crackdown is the anti-sr2.  the game is completely devoid of content and 100% unfun.  just walk to a dot on the map, hold down the aim and shoot buttons til all the enemies at a location are dead, and repeat 50 times.

There's a gang of hackers who are 4chan-esque dudes in SR3.

How are the gangs in SR2 not whacky? You go up against a gang leader who has the power to control you telepathically. You go up against a dude who uses a voodoo doll to attack you. You go against a wannabe samurai gang who lives in the suburbs and can't do anything right that opens up beer bottles with their samurai swords.

That is the very definition of whacky. I don't think you know what generic is. The one thing that is really generic in SR2 is Ultor.

the voodoo doll guys never get to do anything voodootastic beside getting a voodoo doll out when you fight him, there is no gang leader that control you telepathically that i can think of,the wannabe samurai gang is as yakuza-stereotypical like as possible, they never come across as "funny incompetent" they always come cross as "honor, honor, honor"

no sir we are on a pretty low level of wacky,we aren't near the same level of wacky as mexican luchadores,to beat mexican luchadores you would have to up the ante with like a gang made of fast food mascots or something like that! heck isn't there a running gag with hot dog suits?

The Ronin are a gang called the Ronin. A ronin is a samurai without a lord. But here's the thing, the Ronin have a leader. THe way I think of it, the Ronin are the incompetent seeds of the Tojo Clan that they kicked out of Japan and into America so they don't fuck things up back home. It's pretty hilarious watching a Japanese gang in the suburbs act like they're samurai. What's more, most of the members of the Ronin are white. Which adds to the funny. The fact that they're in the suburbs and not anywhere near downtown shows their incompetence. Who is hard in the suburbs? No one but the ronin.

And the boss of the Samedi uses a telepathic/voodoo move on you during the boss fight with him.

I'm done with Child of Eden and SotD, so I played some more Akai Katana today. I couldn't beat my 500m score with the Type 1 ship, so I played a couple credits with the other ships and improved my scores with them. Now I'm in the top 5 of each character's leaderboard. :D

The scoring system is so good in this game, but what I like most is that you are not punished for dying or bombing. If you die, you get more ninja juice, and if you need to bomb, it doesn't harm your score at all. That's how Yagawa rolls. :bow

The beat em up thread on GAF got me in the mood to play one of them, so I figured I'd give Ninja Baseball Bat Man a shot since I've never played it before. That game is pretty great. Really nice art and graphics, simple but fun combat, good enemies and bosses. Seems a little on the easy side as well, but I game over'd on stage 5 so I dunno.

Fun game.

Musou games are real time strategy crossed with rpg with hack and slashing. DW7 is fantastic, DWG3 is about as good if not better. DW7 has a better story mode as its more reminiscent to the novels and takes the story more seriously. DWG3 has more content and a far better strategic element. It can get challenging sometimes, because enemy boss special attacks kill you if you are caught in it. If you have a friend you can play these games 2 player. There's also Samurai Warriors 3 for wii, which I hear is fantastic as well.

So it really depends on what you want:

Chinese dudes with an animu'd version of one of the greatest stories ever told (Romance of the Three Kingdoms) with world map and tons of loot:

A bunch of Japan's most famous warriors:

Or a bunch of gundams knocking the shit out of each other:

Keep in mind, DWG3 is the most online reliant of the three, as the best way to get the best plans and money is through online.

Personally I prefer DW7 because I'm a history buff. Bebpo and Gundam stick with the Gundam games because they've a hard on for mecha.

UUUUUGGGGHHHH. Why do the levels [especially the boss battles] in S&P2 have to be so LONG?  :-\

Medium. I can make it through the level okay, but I keep getting killed right at the very end of the boss battle. That's happened with Chapter 1 and Chapter 2.

Got 535m in Akai Katana. #8 overall and #3 with the Type 1 ship. I still haven't 1cc'd the game though... I need to stop dying to stupid shit all of the time.

Gonna take a break and play Half Minute Hero now.

Uh, slow moving text has always been annoying in games. We know how to read. If there's no voice acting to listen to, give us the option to speed it up.

Exactly... hell there are parts when I'll quickly read over the text and skip through the VA if need be.

Variable text speed couldn't have been that tricky to implement for the 999 devs... (or the Xenogears devs)

Anyone know of a trainer that works with the Steam version of Just Cause 2?  I'm not really interested in playing the whole game again I just want to fuck around and cheat.

I believe you need to roll back to an older version to use the bolopatch (unlimited ammo, health, etc.) but there are alternatives and more here: http://www.justcause2mods.com/

also, there is only the steam version of Just Cause 2.  No matter where you buy it, it is a steamworks game.

Really?  There was no retail version?  Didn't know that.

Anyway, thanks.  I guess I'll just use a mod instead of going through the hassle of rolling it back.

There's a retail version, but it activates through Steam.
