I'm liking Death Smiles 2 more and more every time I play it. Arcade mode is really growing on now that I've learned some better strategies. Such a fast and fun game - I definitely see where people are coming from when they say they like DS2 more than 1, and I think I'll eventually start leaning in that direction as well. I'll probably put Galuda off for now and work on improving my current DS2 score (495m)... I watched a video on Nico of a guy scoring 1.7 billion (BILLION!) and learned a lot from it.

I just wish Windia or Supe were able to score well, because I don't like how Lei controls. Part of the reason I like DS1 so much is because I love using Follett AND she has really high scoring potential. whateva tho

Haven't played a game (Shadows of the Damned) since last Thursday. I'll try to beat it sometime this week and then move on to Ryu ga Gotoku Of the End.

I started getting back into NFS Hot Pursuit now that Dirt 3 has run its course.  Man, HP is pretty awesome but SO MANY RAGE MOMENTS.  It's so easy to be 5 mins into a race in 1st and then 1 fuckup and you lose the whole race.  Game needs a rewind option badly.

I was at the end of this longass hot pursuit race as a racer and a cop rammed me from behind and KILLED ME OVER THE FINISH LINE  :maf

I'm pretty much sticking to Racer career atm, wonder if Cop career is less frustrating since you just destroy all the cars in your way.

Aside from that I continue to soldier through Radiant Historia.  It's a good game but the story really hasn't grabbed me yet.  It's such Himu-chan fodder.

I'm gonna start that one on Friday, really looking forward to it.

Been playing Espgaluda 1 every once in a while on MAME, and I think that's the next game I'm going to focus on. I just read the wall of text from the shmups strategy forum so I think I should be ready to start playing this. I can already make it the final boss on a good run, so hopefully it won't take a ton of practice. The final boss is pretty hard though... I could see myself reaching her with a full stock of lives and still losing.

ESPGaluda is one of the only bullet hell's I'm any good at (Dodonpachi and ESP Ra.De. being the other)... but yeah that final boss is a doozy. The rest of the game is pretty manageable. But still... :bow my favorite STG ever :bow2

I played the Hydrophobia's demo and realized that I hate playing games where I'm submerged in water. There's also a lot of strange Euro-jank in the story, with the cognitive dissonance of some Métal Hurlant piece that's been translated poorly.

Some ass-clown from TA.com wrote a text message, "Hey im looking for someone to boost the mp achievements in brutal legend with. If you are interested in playing right now, lemme know."

I wrote him back immediately, "sure. lemme find my disc" -- then he sends a party invite, which I assume is just because it's easier to send than a Private Chat invite, but no -- wtf, a half-dozen other ass-clowns all yammering away, and then a direct voice message: "Sorry this other dude beat you by 30 seconds. If he bails, I can help you..."

Yeah, it's naive-unto-Pollyanna of me to expect manners out of the XBLA crowd, but this guy pulled me out of another game, into a Party, and then basically told me he had another date for the prom after I showed up with my corsage.

Just Cause 3 will be glorious.  They just (no pun intended) need to add more destructible buildings.  A combination of JC2 with RFG would be basically the best "blow shit up" game ever.

Yeah, Just Cause mixed with Guerilla would be bad ass. Hell, I'd settle for BC2 level of destruction. It kind of sucks that I can create these Hiroshima-esque explosions and still have the majority of the landscape stay intact.

Final Fantasy XIII [Release in North America as The Last Remnant]:

+Possibilities for customization are pretty big
+Graphics look nice enough once you drop in some AA and V-Sync with the NVIDIA control panel
+Unique take on combat
+Lots of stuff to do aside from the main questline
+Those little frog guys

-Feels a bit directionless at times, especially right after you get to the first town
-Cutscenes are kind of bland
-Main character is bland and stupid [but supporting characters are kinda cool. SMH, Japan]
-Combat often feels needlessly convoluted

I can see why it didn't rate very highly, but, at the same time, I also like what it does right. Glad it finally went on sale for $10, because it's certainly worth that.

:bow Death Smiles 2

I beat my old score just now by a decent amount (went from 495m to 684), but I died on Satan Claus and made a ton of mistakes along the way. So I think I'll aim for 900m or so if I can get a nice clean run where everything goes according to keikaku. I really underrated this game when I first played it. The scoring system is fast and intense, so it's fun as fuck once you're in the rhythm.

I just wish the port quality was a little better. From watching videos on Nico, it seems like there's a TON of slowdown missing from the arcade version, so it's basically impossible to get comparable scores. Oh well.

there is an accessory that restore your SP in battle, later on the game it's pretty easy to equip it,go to the first dungeon and simply parry until you gain all your SP back

it's also incredibly boring

Yeah, it's kinda bad, not horrible, certainly, but it's got its faults. Make sure you play stealth and use your abilities a lot, that's really the best way to play it.

802m in DS2 now. Ranked #15. :D

Beat Satan Claus by the skin of my teeth too. If I can get a nice clean run where I finish with 3-4 lives in stock, I think I'll be able to clear 900m for sure.

Gettting my ass handed to me  trying to Platinum the bobsleigh track in DiRT 3. Platinumed everything in the Dirt Tour except this one, my toughest challenge in the game by far. I'm always about a .5 of a second short of my goal. It's infuriating.

So I got bored replaying that 1 minute track for over an hour and decided to check out the the Youtube upload feature as a short respite from my torture. Here's me taking a tumble on that track. I'll be getting back to it now... haven't had a chance to try Ms 'Splosion Man yet...

901m in DS2 now. Ranked #9 with Lei now, and I think that's the 2nd highest western score (behind EOJ). :D

This game is godlike. My run was really sloppy too - I died on Satan Claus, so I didn't even clear it. So I guess I'll start aiming for 1 billion+.

I just got 999.7m in Death Smiles 2 Arcade mode. 300 fucking thousand points from my goal. God damn it.

It was a nice run though. Cleared it with 3 lives and 1 bomb left. Ranked #12 overall now, and #8 with Lei. I'm pretty happy with that. Might be a new western record as well. :D

Terraria.  Steam shows me at 29 hours, although it's actually only about half that, as I tend to just pause it and do other things while it is minimized.  I normally dislike this type of game, but I guess I just like zoning out for 15 minute chunks and fucking around.  There is somewhat of an actual game here, best I can figure is that you're trying to build yourself up to kill the 3 bosses in the world, but there's no "end game" right now (dev says that's coming in a couple of content additions).  There is a lot that irritates me about it, but things like crafting a golden sword tonight and whaling on zombies and demon eyes, jumping between three different worlds to gather potion supplies, or trying to figure out a way to route water so I can mine a gold vein without drowning, all keep me coming back.  I think I am gonna try some multiplayer tomorrow night, then maybe take a break for a little while.

Got 1,024,552,463 with Lei now. The #1 Lei score on XBL is 1.3 billion, but I think on a "perfect" run I'll only be able to hit 1.2~ billion, so I don't think I'll be able to beat him. I'm going to keep playing though, the game is super fun to play for score. But I think maybe I'll start playing Espgaluda now. I'd like to get a 30+ million clear in that.

They did it as a gift to celebrate the exact date of Sonic's 20th.  They even say in the download description that it's way early.  And the old Sonic Team had no problems releasing NiGHTS in an unfinished state.  I doubt releasing an early demo with a framerate that is merely better than the average complete game would have kept them up at night.

Be interesting to see if they sort it out for launch.  I'm not even a framerate whore or Sonic Team whore and I found it awful.

Alice

Pretty great game. I'm playing on Nightmare difficulty (hardest mode) because I don't feel like playing three times. Hopefully the achievements stack. It's pretty easy but it's a really well made game. Has a lot of variety so far and every time I get tired of one gimmick it throws in something new. Really well paced.

Also Particle Reality proven wrong once again. Game owns.
