nier's pretty rad. seems like there's a ton to do and the boss fights are pretty great.

One tip about Nier: play through new game+ at least once after you beat it for the first time.

You see button mashing, I see rts-lite with chinese murder simulator and rpg elements.

Put it on hard if you're complaining about mashing and you shall see the light.

where the fuck do you see the rts? you never make any decision you just kill everything on sight (i'm playing on normal by the way)

though you know what? i think i know why the game feels so button mashy,it's because the stage last forevers! i'm doing the first mission with cao pi and i lost count on how many people i have murdered

i can see why you like it though,i bet you have a cao cao poster in the room or something :smug

How couldn't you? If you lose your base, game over. If your invading commander loses his life, game over. You have to protect and take bases in order to win. RTS. Shit happens, maybe you have an ambush on your base and you're on the opposite side of the map? To devolve the entire gameplay flow of it as being merely nothing than button mashing is like saying every rpg ever is just pressing attack. It's stupid and baseless.

I don't have game-related posters in my room. Ewww, tacky. But yes, wei owns.

everytime they tell me my base is being invaded i don't think "HIGH STRATEGY" i think more along the line of "game? y u make me waste my time by making me go back and forth like an idiot?" it's a good thing you have magical horse summoning power though it wouldn't hurt if the guy would go faster

if this was a strategy game,i would be able to leave troop behind so that this scenario wouldn't happen in the first place, having checkpoint to conquer doesn't add strategy to this, this is like saying that an fps has "RTS element" because there is a king of the hill mode

actualy even that example is more fitting considering i have never seen a group of enemies retaking a base in dynasty warrior

Quote
To devolve the entire gameplay flow of it as being merely nothing than button mashing is like saying every rpg ever is just pressing attack

there are character to unlock (actualy a ton of character to unlock,i thought each faction would have like 5 character at best but the conquest mode showed a lot more!) weapon to use, seals to unlock, skills to get,a somewhat decent plot to follow

but saying that this game has strategy is laughable, the only strategy you need is hit & run tactics when you get to critical health and you suddenly have infinite musou which basicaly makes you invincibile

if you want more strategy, dynasty warriors gundam 3 is a better pick. the whole game is based around the strategic gameplay.

nah i don't want more strategy,as i said i would be happier if the game just went along quicker,i had to kill a great total of 1500 guys in the last 2-part mission i played... why they have to put all these junk enemies? if i can kill 1 lu-bu i can certainly kill 10 generic general, don't you think so game?

You concentrate on the grunts but not the officers. The officers are the real threat. The rest are just fodder and I wouldn't want it any other way.

DW7 maps can be really long, sometimes 30-40 minutes long at longest.

I can beat an average DWG3 map in 5 minutes.

I prefer DW7's approach, has more variety. But people liek Bebpo prefer the short mission approach. I like huge, epic battles.

i do concentrate on the officer himuro, that's why it's so absurd! even focusing on not killing the mook i ended up killing 1500 of them trying to kill the officers, that's how many officer i had to kill

you know one thing i don't get is when the game goes like

"XXX you are doing a great job! i'm going to work better now!

YYY morale has increased"

and.... that's it

It's useless on normal mode. On hard mode and higher it's life or death.

Morale allows your units to survive longer and hit harder. So on hard mode if you have low morale, your units have a higher chance of being obliterated. And without other units, you're toast. The whole point of the other units is damage control. This is bad on missions where a loss is dependent on an ally dying.

conquest mode stage go down a lot quicker and they even give you extra weapon as rewards,i wish the story mode was like that! i even got the "don't get hit" and "finish a stage under 1 minute" achievement

though of course since there are all those legendary battles that drags thing down....

Try Warriors Orochi 1 and 2 Magus.  Older games, but shitloads of characters and better challenge.

I got Catherine yesterday but didn't get a chance to play it.  Got some games in on SSF4 AE for PC...fought an 11,000+ BP Gouken and won, then the guy kicks me and says "your computer is too slow."   :lol  All the dude did was attempt to counter and jump straight up when I got close, so I just threw him and won without much trouble.

Then for laughs while watching TV I played some SF4 Volt online on iPhone.  Rage-quitting may be worse in this version than all of the others combined.

at least since i have all the OP weapons from my wei playtrough enemies go down in like 3 attacks

you know when i had a psx,i played a shitload of soul blade,it's not that i cared about combo and stuff but heck i loved the soul edge mode,as you played you unlocked more weapons, you got to fight under special condition, there were characters with each their own mode,a shitload of stuff to unlock

that's more or less how i'm playing this game, with the same mentality i played 3D fighter on psx,it's a drag to play but *DING* i now have a golden sword that hit for thrice the damage of the sword i first had

the achievement just complement my OCD because now not only i do get to be OCD about the game but i also get a small medals on top of that

and another thing... fuck liu bei! what a wussy! >:(

Dead Space 2 is pretty awesome.  I'm at chapter 11 or so now.  Really liking it and the action is better than the first game.

The one (weird) complaint I have is how much less believably space-y it is.  The ship environment in Dead Space 1, while it was samey and could get tedious, felt like a place.  Dead Space 2, I'm in like a space church and now space nursery or something.  Then it's small things, like these other human characters wearing regular clothing, or even Isaac pulling away his mask, when regularly windows to space are breaking open.

1) the windows shatter if you breathe near them
2) the switch to close the safety hatch is above the window

what's the over/under on window-related deaths topping the necromoprh invasion?

Some of my favorite moments in the first game were those silent space walks or zero-g puzzles.  The zero-g stuff here is just flying around and you have too much control.  Maybe it's because I played Shatter Horizons, but it doesn't feel like zero gravity.  You don't really drift much and it's most like you turned on no clip mode.

But yeah, the game is pretty awesome.

since i really really don't want to play shu story mode,i continued conquest mode and ended up getting tons of rare weapons... i even got one halberd from lu bu which supposedly gives me a regenerating musou bar? that sounds really overpowered,i also got the red hare, the mission was kinda amusing "KILL EVERYBODY!"

oh also i played one stage on chaos and a mystic appeared or something... i got murdered by tigers so quickly that i wasn't able to check it out but what was the deal with it?

think i'm going to finish BENEVOLENCE next, that scholar achievement looks like the suckiest one, good thing i have a printed guide to know that the general that fought in the battle of zhing tong was zhang xi or something

I played the Rambo arcade game.  There is a Rambo button that when pressed gives you unlimited super ammo and plays the Rambo theme.

side thing:  when did arcade guns become repilcas of modern weapons? the Rambo gun is basically a G36.  I remember Time Crisis and Virtua Cop having gaudy plastic monstrosities.  HotD4 is like an Uzi or Mac10, Terminator Salvation is an M4 or M16.

Historically, Wu won the the Three Kingdoms for a while and iirc it transitioned to a Wu Dynasty at a time. They held all the power for the better half a century.

The novel, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, is biased towards Shu. Wei are considered the 'bad guys'. Historically, as recorded in Records of the Three Kingdoms, however, Wu held out the longest until they were corrupt enough to lose to a powerful Jin, creating the Jin Dynasty. Of course, Jin Dynasty fails about 200 years later creating a new dynasty.

You should remember the story you're involved in the story mode lasts a solid 100+ years, it's just that the character models don't age.

When I first re-started the game, yeah, I blew donkey dicks at it. I was like, "Hey, I used to suck at this, but now I really, really suck at this." Then something clicked and I can finally use that fucking crossfader. That whole controller would be tolerable if the divot for "center" on the crossfader was just a little more pronounced.

I like 2 better, namely because of a better music selection.
Ah. Yeah. You know, most of DJ Hero 1's songs, somehow it feels like they're using like 5 songs total and then creating 50 or so mixes out of them. There are a couple standouts, but somehow every other track is groping Unchained Symphony or Heard It Through the Grapevine like a 17 year old on prom night.

If DJ Hero 2 has better tracks, I will pick it up at some point. What's the major difference? Variety? More recent? More mash-up feel?

I've had Infamous 2 sitting around here for about 3 weeks and finally popped it in today.  Pleasantly surprised. All I remember reading about it was people bitching that it looks and plays exactly like the first.  Personally I think it looks a lot better.  The engine looks the same but they really gave the characters an overhaul and I like the art assets in this one quite a bit.  And while it definitely plays the same, I'm not complaining.  I really like Infamous.

There are some weird things about it though.  Like how quiet everything is.  If it weren't for the shuffling of feet and the occasional grunt, I'd almost think the TV is on mute.  I've it on now and all I can hear is the loud ass fan in my PS3.  I'm also dying quite a bit early on.  Cole's got his powers but shit is killing me left and right.  I feel severely underpowered in this game.  Seems kind of off balance for a game about a superhero.

Still, so far so good.

There are always detractors from a new videogame's graphics, people who want to claim it looks like the original game. They are, nearly without fail, remembering the game somewhat nostalgically, sadly to the new game's disadvantage.

I played the inFamous 2 demo while I was still working through the original inFamous. The sequel is, without question, substantially improved graphically. Not just the overall textures/polys appearance, but its framerate is more steady than the original. And then let's talk about the cutscenes where people talk. It's remarkable.

DW7 was the closest to being accurate and they actually put effort into its story mode. Other Musou story modes don't even really have "plot". DWG3's story for instance is nonsensical and only enjoyable in the loosest of terms and mostly through Gundam fanboyism. Warriors Orochi puts Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors, and a bunch of other mythological shit into one game.

What's different about previous versions? Different series have different emphasis:

Dynasty Warriors is about loot and rpg-lite and historical crap mixed with awesome Romance of the Three Kingdoms fan service.

Warriors Orochi kicks it up a notch by taking what Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors great.

Dynasty Warriors Gundam is about strategy gameplay of taking bases mixed with rpg-lite and Gundam.

Then there's games like Fist of the North Star: Ken's Rage, Bladestorm (still need to play this) which takes the strategy gameplay to the max.

It just really depends on the series and even the entry. DW7 is about the kingdoms that form during the Three Kingdoms era. Past DW's are more character centric and highlight some of the more interesting parts of their characters' arcs. But don't expect DW7 treatment.

i'm kinda curious about previous dynasty warriors title,i mean the plot has to be always the same, the character too... what the heck they change between different titles?

Play Gundam version.  It has a different plot and characters!

"plot" and "characters" lol especially in comparison to DW7's story mode

Personally,I'd suggest Sengoku Basara for wii. It features a dude that rides on another character like a jet. I'm serious. You'd like it.

Yeah, the game can be pretty impressive looking at times.  It's definitely a step up.

However the further I get into it, the more problems I'm having with the actual gameplay.  I'm still on the first island and the game is already a grind.  I haven't found any of the user designed missions to be fun at all (LBP syndrome?) and the default side missions are extremely repetitious but you have to clear out x number of them before the game lets you go forward.  Granted it's a similar structure from the first inFamous and that one got to be pretty repetitious as well but this first island is moving along way too slowly.  I hope it picks up the pace.

James Bond Blood Stone is like Alpha Protocol with all the RPG trappings gone and refined to be an action game.  Also, some boring driving sequences.

First Bizarre game I'm not crazy about...well, last too.

GoWIII is great until the last 20% where you go..."oh" and then it becomes the worst game in the franchise.

I haven't actually played it, but I just watched a complete run of Gokujou Parodious and wow. It's amazing how far Konami has fallen. The drop off from that to Otomedius is astronomical.

I'm eager to play GoW Ghost of Sparta on the GoW Origins Collection.  Almost glad that Castlevania soured me on that style of game; now I can play it on the PS3 instead of PSP.

yeah, it's $10 at gamestop, as is the Goldeneye game on Wii.

I liked the Goldeneye Wii game quite a bit (it's actually getting an enhanced port to the 360/PS3 later this year) and it's definitely better than Blood Stone.  Blood Stone isn't so much bad as it is too decent.  It's an alright third person shooter with basic stealth and driving sequences.  It tries to be like Everything or Nothing where it's like you're playing through a Bond movie, and it sort of succeeds, but it doesn't really standout against other third person shooters.  For the most part it's just unremarkable.

Melee is the one thing that sets it apart.  It's not so different from how other games do melee, but the presentation of Bond pummeling bad guys is really satisfying.

The story and everything is weird and takes a lot of cues from Casino Royale and feels less original than Goldeneye, which was just a modernized take on the 90s film.  Even the intro to Blood Stone is the Casino Royale intro, with diamonds replacing the card motif.

GOD OF WAR 3

Just killed that cunt, Poseidon.

Best looking game I've ever seen :o :o :o Killzone 3 can't hold a damn candle next to it. This is the only time where sony plants on gaf were right.

ironically, this post reads exactly like a Sony plant post
