Edit: Admiral - Lets Golf 1 and 2 are great- 3 is apparently freemium hell.

Whats funny is the first PC release of Avadon was like 20-30 dollars. I grabbed that and ordered a disc copy too. Then the iPad version came out: 10 DOLLARS....and I bought that. Now the STEAM version is out for 10 dollars :*(

almost bought it.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaf!

Playing some devil survivor 2 when I can.  It's good, like all atlus stuff these days.  Will play a lot more when I have more time.

Been playing old world blues dlc for a few weeks at a snails pace.  It's ok, some good, some dull; kind of sick of new vegas dlc that doesn't capture the fun of the main game by this point.

i heard the sequel sucked? has anybody even played it?

Sequel doesn't suck, it's great if you like Majesty but it suffers from some repetitive and random design decisions.

Anyway I am playing DEUS EX with new textures. It's awesome.

I tried running Xenoblade on dolphin to no avail, so I'm ditching that temporarily to play continue playing OoT3DS. I bought it literally a few days after it was released, but have put more than one hour into it. It's not the game, it's the 3DS, I'm not feeling it.

P.S. Is this real life?

Playing LA Noire again to see what Stoney is on about. Finished a case, letting the partner drive, then realized I want to see more of the town. Started driving on my own, and am finding controls appropriately sluggish to that era's cars. I'm running into dead ends a lot, that's annoying.

Is there a way to get a path shown on the minimap to the current destination? It's annoying to have to use START >  MAP > ZOOM to a useful distance > mentally plot a path > START... wait 3 or 4 seconds of black screen to return to gameplay...

Then there's the fact that items shown on the menu's map don't show on the HUD's minimap. That's annoying.

The streetcrime side missions are kind of fun, but they remind me of GTA IV. "Drive there and shoot those guys."

Driving around to see the town isn't a good idea in that game. It's not that sort of open world game imo. And the side missions outside of tying up some story loose ends are repetitive. The base gun and driving mechanics aren't strong enough to support it. So outside of just trying to level up and get intuition points, they should be avoided imo. That game is a main path game.

Yeah, and my "open world game" love is almost all in the meandering around town and doing side mission stuff. I'm going to just mainline this one and get on with my life.

Beautiful map, lovely effects and sense of place, and even LESS to do than in GTA IV. So annoying.

Driving and shooting do suck, too. Turn on your siren, people on your side of the road pull over. Oncoming traffic will TURN LEFT IN FRONT OF A POLICE CAR, siren blaring, full speed.

And the pursuit missions are right up the buttocks of GTA IV's model of "oh, no, no shooting; not until we have you where we want you" -- They show you how to do a warning shot in the tutorial, then give you chase scenes where you can't even draw your gun while the guy is booking in a straight run across 100 yards of open parking lot.  ::)

Also, I've played for 5 hours, game says I'm 30% done. Game was 7 years in development. IIRC, Getaway was long in development and short in final gameplay experience. McNamara should probably try and steer away from expensive in-game cinematic experience. Or game development.

Lots of LA Noire. Still not fun.

The only bright side is that it makes Prince of Persia 2008 seem like an absolute thrillfest.

It's hard to believe so much effort went into the facial mapping technology, the giant map of period-accurate Los Angeles, and all those mocap sessions with actors, and no-one bothered to check if the gameplay portion actually worked or not. The interrogations are just feebly linked to the three choices available to the player, and have absolutely no consistency.

I'd love for Rockstar San Diego to take the whole LA Noire map and actually do something with it.

The action bits of the game are balls. Which is why I say avoid the side missions. The action stuff would have been better served being quicktime events ala heavy rain. So I agree with you. All I can say is most of them are pretty easy and most of the game is really cutscenes, police scene work, or interrogating people. Those are the parts I liked (with the notable flaws I mentioned in the la noire thread). The action part of the game isn't the interesting or fun bit. It's the bit you endure.

The storyline in Witcher 1 is getting really good
nearing end of chapter 2:
spoiler (click to show/hide)
When Raymond just reappeared I found it a little odd because he was supposed to lay low then just showed up at his house again. When I went back to him the second time and I saw my witcher medallion was going crazy I found that very odd. I was like "... uh there's no monsters here". Then I read it and remembered that i also detects magic as well. I didn't realize that he was Azar right then and there but I knew something was up. I wasn't until I went to go see Vincent that there was a prompt "It's Raymond!" that I figured it out. I think I may have went to see him too early because I was supposed to do the cemetery quest first, discover his body and then go see Vincent and all the other people. Regardless it's really cool because I'm thinking I could have missed all this if I hadn't noticed the vibrating medallion and decided to choose the line of dialogue. I wonder how different things would have played out. I guess you gather support from all the people in town by doing this and if you don't then the battle against him is more difficult.

I'm playing Xenoblade. It seems like it's all I'll need for quite some time, haven't been this absorbed in a JRPG since, uh, FFIX or something.

Joystiq put out a guide on how to play imports on your Wii.  I think the letterbomb route is the newest and simplest way, but there are alternatives.  Back when I did it, people were still using a Twilight Princess exploit.  The joystiq guide also tells you how to hook up a hard drive to your Wii and run games off that instead of the DVD.

http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/19/how-to-play-xenoblade-chronicles-if-you-live-in-america/

For Dolphin there may be specific settings to get it to play best.  Otherwise you just download it, run the game and see if it works.  The only game I've played at length on Dolphin was Sin and Punishment 2 since you can play it like a PC shooter with mouse aim.  It ran perfectly at a high res and that wa with dual core ~3ghz cpu, 4gig ram, gtx275.  So unless there are compatibility issues with Xenoblade, a better PC should run it no problem.

I'm staying optimistic and hoping NoA will bring it over.  Reggie shat a BS line about watching Euro sales and it seems to be doing well enough.  Importing it isn't expensive, though.  With shipping it's about the cost of a new game $50-60.

Thanks for your insights, though I think I'm done with this game. I've got Batman: Arkham Asylum still on tap on PS3, probably just give that a go.

Also playing Dungeon Hunter on my phone, just makes me crave for D3 and Torchlight 2, Guild Wars 2 etc even more.

Is that long enough to finish it? Im around 5 hours in now. Game is pretty damn good.

Would be nice if they could deepen it a bit for a sequel.

Beat PixelJunk Shooter 2 last night. Good game but I think I like the first game better. The light/dark shit kinda got on my nerves. It had better boss fights than PJ1 though. Got all the trophies for both games except the ones for collecting all the gems. I don't have time for that shit.

Time to get back to Demon's Souls and also finally beat Shatter.

Thanks for your insights, though I think I'm done with this game. I've got Batman: Arkham Asylum still on tap on PS3, probably just give that a go.

The fun bit about LA Noire is going to a crime scene and gathering clues and being a detective. The other fun part is interrogating subjects although that system has significant flaws. The other bit is the story which is variable depending on the person. I just really dug going to a crime scene and being a cop. That alone was enough for me. That's the only reason to enjoy that game imo so if those things aren't doing it for you then its probably a good idea to let that one pass. Arkham Asykum is overall a much stronger title than LA Noire although I dig being a cop in LA Noire as a character more than playing Batman.

As far as open world games normally I'm a mechanics kind of guy. But open world games are one genre where I care more about character, story, and motivation rather than mechanics because I need that stuff to motivate me to finish what is often a pretty repetitive genre from a moment to moment basis.

Grinding my way through Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3.  I've put about 30 hours into it.

I'm at the getting everyone to level 5 rep part so I can get history missions done- did you notice how much they beefed up the movesets for the general production mobile suits? Very cool imo.

I'm playing tons of Fifa last few days with friends, really good times. Everyone is psyched about Fifa 12 coming out within a month  :o

Also playing Dungeon Hunter on my phone, just makes me crave for D3 and Torchlight 2, Guild Wars 2 etc even more.

For  some reason i cant play any ipad game for more than 10minutes.

I think the only game I put over 10 hours in was Battleheart

Is that long enough to finish it? Im around 5 hours in now. Game is pretty damn good.

Would be nice if they could deepen it a bit for a sequel.

I dunno- I was on the last 'world' at that point- kind of stuck but that was long before they added new classes + patches. so yeah, id guess its about a 8-10 hour game. Total value imo.

So, uh, this should be a fairly easy question.  I just started OoT3DS, still in the village getting the hang of the controls when all of a sudden the word "Navi" starts flashing in the upper screen. What the he'll does that mean? At first I thought the Navi wants me to see something but it's not. HOW DO I MAKE IT STOP?!

If she's flashing that means she wants to tell you something.

Does she hover over whatever she's trying to tell me about or do I have to guess.

(at least it's good to know it's normal, I thought my game glitched so I quit and reloaded. Herp derp)

If this is your first time for OOT  :o

Hotness.

I may hate on Zelda's now... but OOT was hot hot hot! And I hear they fixed the ugly market in town.

I dunno- I was on the last 'world' at that point- kind of stuck but that was long before they added new classes + patches. so yeah, id guess its about a 8-10 hour game. Total value imo.

Yeah wonder what the guys will come up with next, it was a big hit so a sequel is in order.

Aged too badly?

I played some Rage on an Ipad. Ok on rails shooter. But imho in a on rails shooter you need to be able to tap to shoot not point/shoot and tap. Maybe I was just crap, cause it does add extra depth and challenge.

I did the same a few months ago and came to the same conclusion. Mainly because of technical issues and how bad it looks although there is supposed to be some new mod that makes it look better (although it still looks very bad imo)

gave it another go and did better. i just had to re-adjust myself in an "old game" mentality. still probably won't play much more of it.

i tried to install the mod but it doesn't appear to be working for me. i dunno why. i have all the files where they need to go but when i select the proper renderer it doesn't load the new textures and stuff.
