Playing through Assassin's Creed to wrap up the only game in the series I've neglected to finish before Revelations. I played a few hours back when it came out and said "Oh, I'll get back to it"... Since then I've heard a lot of vitriol about AC1, but it isn't bad at all. Outside of a much larger budget, much of what is in AC2 is here as well, though the overworld is a bit big and boring.
Also playing Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars here and there.
I finally found my copy of
Chinatown Wars (along with Osu Tatakae Ouendan and Mario Kart DS), so that's been on occasional play. I'm trying to wrap up
Liberty City Stories, and am on the last mission, at lunch today I was having a great run, whiffed an easy turn and ended up going into the ocean. Tony can't swim, so...

I was so close to the end!
But, about Chinatown Wars, there are SO MANY good side-missions! Running around in low-rez Liberty City, it makes me wonder why I can't have this much fun on the full console version.
Original
Assassins Creed is a mystery to me, how it manages to be so much less fun than AC2. As you say, the first installment has most of what AC2 does, but manages not to be entirely grindy and boring.
