Started playing Death Smiles 2 again. Gonna try to beat my old 1 billion score, but it's going to be really tough. First I need to remember all of the shit I used to do, because I've forgotten damn near everything, then figure out how to improve on it. Would be easier if the game had downloadable or even savable replays, but nope. Off to nico I go...

At least I've figured out how to practice individual stages, since the game has no training mode. Rushed ports :-\

since i somewhat liked rune factory tides of destiny i've decided to check out rune factory 3 and so far it seems better, sure it's less streamlined (buy the seed, water them, feed your monster) but on the other hand the crafting system seems like to be less grind prone, material drop are plenty so making high level items to raise your skill doesn't seems to be so hard, there also doesn't seems to there be any easy money-making system and there is plenty of stuff to buy so i don't see myself outgrowing the whole system as quickly

it's also nice to have a combat system that feels more like 2D zelda rather than a low-budget clunky action rpg, there is even a difficulty selector,i'm playing on hard and the first boss took a lot of effort, murdering him was very satysfing

the character are the same kind of cutesy blandness but i find the one that speak in opposite somewhat amusing

I just played some provisional GOTY janitorial simulation Dustforce. It's cheap and it's on Steam and you should buy it if you like challenging platformers.

Did it. 8)

Made a bunch of mistakes here and there (some major and lots of minor), but I don't think there's a ton of room left for improvement. The world record on the arcade version is a little over 2 billion, but I think scores anywhere near that are literally impossible on the 360 port because of inaccuracies (the #1 Lei score on the 360 is 1.3b). Oh well, still pretty happy with this.

A few more floors in Tartarus to go... then I get into a battle with a mage. Try to scan him... but before that can be done, the mage attacks with a Megidola spell, doing 550+ damage to my party, wiping them all out...  :-\

So close, yet so far. I'm at the point where I've been playing for nearly 80 hours and just want to be done. I hate this part of RPGs.

It took me a while to get used to the controls. They seemed off at first with all the walljumping and dashing, but after about two hours it all clicked and became an A++ platformer.

Even the tutorial has leaderboards. Game don't mess around.

I'd not played any games in this first week back in America. But last night I played a metric fuck-tonne of Tobal 2 with my longest-standing Tobal comrade. Holy crap, it was so much fun. We had a long catchup/learning curve, but by the last 1/3 we were back on our game.

For the first time since arriving in the States, I tried to log in and access my Cloud Drive save data to play some Batman: AC. Not sure what I did wrong in Osaka, but my save file is at the 56% mark, where I think my progress was around 80%, from wrapping up Riddler Trophies and Riddler Hostages. I guess I'm going to wait until I can get access to the other save file before continuing.  :-\

rune factory 3 is so fun,i've actualy started playing tides of destiny again... but they screwed up once again, one of the option let you go inside random dungeons which feature random loot... now while this is incredibly fun as there is a bucketload of shit to find,it also completly destroy any reason to keep your farm going as a trip to a random dungeon makes you thrice the money you would get doing the boring stuff

i'm actualy amused that tides of destiny came after this one because it's pretty clear this is the game where they put the fuck

i'm really close to finish rune factory:tides of destiny but there is some bullshit going on... namely,it's one of those game suffering from Nakamania the more S.Link equivalent you cleared, the more revive you get during the final boss and he's really quick about killing you so now i have to spend some times being buddy buddy with NPC so i can survive longer

even more annoying i have access to a really powerfull weapon but before being able to get it,i need a rare drop... so now i have to grind for rare drops too
i wish this game was already over >:(

yeah that's how i felt about the first 2 but tides of destiny and 3 are more focused on that regard
anyway i finished it,since i couldn't find the drop i made like 10 levels, and after i did found the drop,my attack power increased by a bajillion... i upgraded my armor a little more and ended up trashing the final boss without that friendship stuff

there is more stuff to do after finishing the game (like taking a waifu and some sort of colisseum) but i'm not sure i'm going to do it

After loving New Vegas and all the DLC, I wanted MOAR, so I installed Fallout 3, and oops, Bethesda can't actually write a game for shit. Somehow I had retroactively forgotten how empty and boring the world was and how bland the NPCs. Pity. Is Skyrim actually any better in the narrative department?

I may give ALPHA BROTOCOL a try at this point!

Just finished OUTLAND

FUCK YEAHHHHHHHHH :rock :rock

The final boss was like going BACK IN TIME to kickass challenging action platformers of the 8bit/16bit/32bit era.  Took me 45 mins of retrying until I just baaarely beat it.  SO HARD, but so good.  I love how the overall challenge level of the game was maybe not Ninja Gaiden level, but was definitely above-average-game difficulty for these days.  Some challenging spots all throughout and the boss fights were GOOD.

Definitely downloadable GoTY for 2011.  Would love to see Housemarque do more of this and less of SuperStardust/Dead Nation.  Stardust is cool but I don't think they need to do more of it, the Vita one looks like more the same and what I played of Dead Nation was kind of whatever.  This, otoh, is ambitious and well crafted shoutout to treasure games of old.

And yeah, it's not really Super Metroid, it's closer to Prince of Persia SoT x Ikaruga.

Armored Core 5 seems cool and deep but dammit I've become terrible at understanding imports.

The mech combat seems a lot slower than AC4 (not a negative) and the management and online seems a lot deeper.  I'm hoping there is an English demo so I can understand it all.

Medal of Honor

this is pretty good for one of these modern military shooter! I hated BF3 and Black Ops.  Didn't really like CoD4, Bad Company 2, and most of MW2 (though it's was my favorite).  It's surprising that it feels good comparatively.

Guns feel good, the scale is much smaller than the other games.  You're fighting smaller packs of enemies for briefer encounters.  The entire atmosphere is more like CoD4 instead of WW3 and each mission is killing a hundred enemies.  The story is a lot of jargon and stuff but it seems grounded.  It has a nice cover/lean system where you hold the left bumper and can move around with the left stick.  And you can slide and shoot!

I don't like how much you rely on teammates to boost you onto a ledge (insulting when he follows without any help).  Also, only a problem for the PC version and why I'm using a 360 controller is that the mouse controls are terrible.  Horrible acceleration that speeds you up when turning but slows you down while trying to fine aim.

Hey MAF, what's the music like?  Does it use the music from the 10 shows?  Like the OPs/EDs?  Like in Super Robot Wars when you attack with a unit from the show it plays a chiptune bgm version of the OP from that show.

Yup. Unfortunately there isn't a lot of voice work, in fact what's weirder is that occasionally you'll get a voice clip out of nowhere. The other thing is that from what I can tell there's a lot of characters beyond the mains but everyone basically has a standard attack move which can be charged with additional power, and their special moves (which can also be charged). Game seems to focus on swapping between the different characters during fights to pull out dps combos or survive attacks and managing your action points/pp. You can allocate "Bravery" points to change a characters strengths but lol can't read Japanese so I'm not sure what these different stats effect yet.

The thing is aside from switching to characters that still have dps potential or can take heavy hits in a defense phase I'm not certain if some attacks are more effective than others. It might just be about keeping dps up through a fight. To be honest though that can be a challenge. I did barrrrely manage to beat that boss I was stuck on last night. All special attacks have a fully voiced skippable fmv clip.

There's a lot of story (that can be skipped) and a basic overworld. Also appears to be character gear of some sort, but I don't quite get how that works yet. I just set equip to AUTO for everyone I have so far (Lina, gourry, Amelia, zelgadis, and the crew from Rune Soldier)

Started playing Cave Story+. It's okay so far and I'll probably finish it since I think it's supposed to be short, but the controls aren't as good as I thought they were going to be. I guess I went into it assuming it would have precise controls like Mega Man or any other good action/platformer, but there's some nasty inertia that I wasn't expecting. :yuck

True. You should know that Hard Corps learning curve is not forgiving at all early on in the game, but once you start getting upgrades and learning enemy patterns, it'll feel like one of the best 2D games this gen.

I don't like this whole "leave your psp in sleep mode to level when you sleep thing" FF Type 0.  This is the THIRD time I've forgotten to turn the power off when I start sleep leveling and put it in its pouch.  So I take it out the next day and the pouch is like FIRE HEAT and the system is burning hot from being on and in an enclosed space for 12 hours+.  I hope my PSP doesn't die.  I still have a small backlog to get through on it :(

Also dustforce soooo looks like my type of game.  But I don't have time for a game like that in my life right now, so will wait until there's a steam sale in 6 months.

Beat Persona 3 @ 86h44m. Now started making some headway into Brain Lord. Hope to finish before GOTY FF13-2 comes out.

Fully in on Mass Effect 2, game is fun as hell. I'm definitely interested in picking up ME3 at launch now.

funny you mention ME2...

I just installed some of the Texture mods that bump up the texture quality on your squad members armor/faces also some other general texture mods as well and i'm thinking of re-playing the game before ME3 comes out.
