If they really wanted to come full circle, Lightning should have put on makeup during the LR ending.

Well Dishonored looks like Half Life 2 and there's something about the way the colors and textures look. I'm not surprised anyone thought it was a source game.

Doesn't it flash the Unreal logo at the start?

Oh, also, Viktor Antonov was the concept artist. He's worked on HL2 as well.

Yeah, the HL2 connection is probably why I thought it was Source.

So I'm still at DQ6. Getting close to the end. Need some more job skills to be able to finish it.
I also picked up Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen. I played the original Dragon's Dogma when it first came out and created a character that looked exactly like Zoolander. I've done it again. The new adventures of Derek Zoolander. This time I'll be playing it completely differently. I love this game. Master works all, you can't go wrong.

Been playing Killer Instinct with family and friends. Always funny to watch the room explode in laughter and taunts whenever one of them manages to sneak in a win against me  :lol

So I've decided to play Dragon's Dogma completely differently than my first play through (outside as playing as Zoolander). Having a ton of fun. My love interest in the first play through was Madeliene. This time as I was escorting her to the encampment I was playing around and thought to toss her over a cliff. I didn't think it would kill her. Oops. Damn, she had some nice stuff for sale later.

Been on a jrpg kick recently, and it just feels so good. I miss this genre. :tocry  It's still my favorite after all this time. :brazilcry

This year I've replayed:

dq1, 4, 8
ff5, 6, 7
chaos rings
a portion of suikoden v - want to dedicate time to this beast

I've played 10 international for the first time, currently going through 10-2 international for the first time. Will be going through kingdom hearts 1 and 2 final mix and birth by sleep later this year.

I should be playing Lunar when i beat dq4. I've never played Lunar. :uguu

What part of "I'm liking it" don't you understand Borys?

It's got a lot of nice stuff to it with the art design, music, puzzles.  The two person mechanic is good for puzzles but it also makes the controls never feel good; there should be an auto-follow for the 2nd character for when you don't need them.  Benches are a nice nod to Ico, and I appreciate the original world they've built.  Could be even better if it wasn't so blatent in being Ico 2.  Fake language, young boys, escort puzzles, windmills, mysterious castles, etc...all good stuff, just it seems like it's taking A LOT from Ico and maybe it could've taken a bit less to be more unique.

it's a shame the licensing shit is keeping lunar 2 from being rereleased in any form, it's way better than the first one.

What kinda licensing shit? Songs? I always wondered why there are 15 million re-releases of the original but 2 only got the Saturn/PSX re-release.

Beat one half of Muramasa Rebirth on the Vita yesterday. On to the boys half. Fun lil hack n slash, but I wish they made boss fights more difficult in exchange for less HP. Some can take forever to kill. Maybe the higher difficulty addresses this.

Started Defense Grid 2 last night and played up to the 4th mission. It's just as good as the first game so far, but playing it on a capable PC is just... :lawd

Re: What are you playing?
« Reply #24627 on: September 26, 2014, 09:59:38 AM »
Muramasa's enemies all scale with your level (bosses included), so they'll always have the same HP more or less. The trick to killing everything quickly is playing around with Sword Arts to see which are the most OP. Fury mode, which you unlock once you beat the game, is all about abusing the hell out of them since you're fully invulnerable while you're doing those attacks.

Fury mode is pretty much the way to play the game, IMO. It had Legend mode's control scheme/difficulty but only gives you one HP total, so its all about learning how to dodge attacks, recognize enemy patterns with death only being one wrong move away. Makes you have to really learn all the inner workings of the game's combat.

I got that version for my iPad. It's not that bad actually.
I got about half way before I moved to something else, though I think that has way more to do with the fact that it really hasn't aged well and since I've already played it the charm of it wasn't enough to keep my interest.

Although I would love to play #2 at some point.

Yeah. Second Son was repetitive as hell, even with the shorter length (for an open world game). First Light trims the fat and offers a tighter experience. I liked it a lot.

Did I post this in the wrong thread btw. There's a random gaming talk thread.

But if there's people that prefer tricky then I'm very interested in dem shits. :ohhh

Totally different kinds of games. Tricky is more whacky. SSX3 is more grounded but still insane. Tricky is a pure arcade experience, 3 is a combination of that plus open world. I prefer 3. I miss SSX. :tocry RIP.

I like both equally.  Fuck that new SSX though.  That and Twisted Metal were both huge letdowns of old classic franchises.  SSX had the budget, but badbadbad game design decisions.  TM had good classic gameplay, with some bullshit SP stages, but no budget at all.

Played through D.M.C. Virgil's Downfall last night.  At first I was really impressed for a DLC.  High polish, completely new character with unique gameplay mechanics (even if influenced by DMC3's Virgil of course).  All new enemies.  Nice comic cutscenes.  Didn't just feel like more of the same.

Then after about 40 mins, the stages became:  Run 100 feet -> Fight a shit ton of 3 enemy types for 3-5 mins -> Run 100 feet -> Fight a shit ton of the same 3 enemy types for 3-5 mins, etc... the DLC was short so they pad it out with almost bloody palace levels of just fighting waves after waves of enemies and there's only a few enemy types.  And then the color coded enemies feel totally out of place here since Virgil's move list is smaller and shielded enemies just fuck up his play style.

In the end it was average, but could've been a lot better for sure.  Hope Capcom doesn't kill the Devil May Cry franchise after this, whether it's Capcom Internal or Ninja Theory, it's a fun franchise and I'd hate to see it go.

Finished Brothers.  Was good.  Very, very nice art design.  The level design was also great.  I really enjoy layered level design where as you gain higher ground you see the places you've journeyed through on the way.  It also did a great job with environmental storytelling and created a imaginative fairy tale world.  Things like

spoiler (click to show/hide)
The invisible snowman, the blood sacrifice rituals, the man hanging himself, the haunted graveyard, the troll mines, the way the game makes you question whether there were giants or if the characters were actually little bug-sized people all along
[close]
were all very cool.  The puzzles were pretty good too!

Where I think it fell flat for me was the story.  I heard that the game has PLOT TWIST and THE FEELS yet I never encountered either of those (I really don't think the game has anything that you can actually call a plot twist; a plot twist would be like "oh hey, they were actually just in Canada").  The story was just kind of 'eh' and then over.  The controls were also kind of non-intuitive.  It was definitely a game about the journey and not the destination.  And it was a nice Journey for sure.

Smoked weed, played a bunch of games last night:

The Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse - good game, beautiful and colorful graphics although the music is kinda poopy. Managed to beat the game after much struggling against certain bosses, but then when reading an old Nintendo Power I learned that you can actually upgrade your life meter by finding secret shops, which I never once stumbled upon while playing...

Time Cruise - an awesome but super obscure pinball game for Turbo Grafx (Hu-Card). Great music and some strange, trippy bonus stages. My friend invited his friends over to smoke with us (2 early 20s girls), turns out one of them is a huge pinball fanatic, and the other one doesn't really play games but she took a turn playing this and kicked all of our asses at it, even the kid who owns like 5 pinball machines at home.

Lion King - game isn't that great. Graphics are nice but the hit detection is weak, especially in the level where you have to swing from rhino's tails.

Tiny Toon Adventures - Buster Busts Loose - not a fan of the game, I don't like the main method of attacking and the stages are a bit too drawn out with poor checkpointing.

Shinobi 3 - some levels are a bit boring but the graphics are really nice and this is a great action game for the Genesis. I played it a bunch of times before but made it farther than ever before feeling too tired to continue.

Started playing Capcom vs SNK 2 online the other day and it is awesome. Its been a while since I played against other people and the online (via modded PCSX2) works very well.  I lost a lot against the last guy I played because I was going all random and simply trying to get used to the game again since it is so different from modern fighting games. SNK characters play like Capcom characters and it is great. I love how footsies based this game is while also supporting SNK and Capcom rushdown play (K, N and A Grooves). Turtling is very effective in CvS2 yet the game still feels much faster than SFIV. I wish Capcom would have given this game the proper digital release treatment (like 3S and MvC2) instead of just shoving it out the door with no online play and bugs.

Started playing Wild Arms 2... so far, not bad but it feels REALLY easy. The dungeons are short and the puzzles so far haven't been too tricky (though there are a few slightly creative uses of your tools), and the battles have been mostly cake. As of now I prefer 1 and 3 (and of course XF) but we'll see...

Back to playing Yakuza: Isshin which I hadn't touched since April when it came out.  Been fucking around in town, just enjoying the sim aspect.  Doing cooking/farming/fishing/karaoke/gambling/dojo/shopping/eating/crafting/sidequests.  It's definitely enjoyable in small doses.  Just wish the combat was a little better as it's more shallow than what I remember of RGG 1/2 and maybe even Kenzan in this one.  Might play the RGG Zero next year since it's another game where I don't have to get around to playing 3/4/5 before it (which I do plan on playing someday).  Dunno.  Will see how burnt out I am on the formula by the end of this.

It's one of my faves this year.  It looks great and it sounds great.  One of the bosses is a pain in the ass in the harder Arena, though, and it isn't the final boss.  It's just too bad that Kirby moves slower than normal, but that can be mitigated by some powerups.  It's also too bad that the Beetle powerup is overpowered like crazy.  But I felt that, in the long run, it's one of those games that you should probably mostly look at face value since that's generally the takeaway from Kirby games to me.

Plus it's cute.

...also I wish I had time for video games right now. All I've been doing is playing some bits of Curtain Call and Tomodachi Life and I think I'm going to go insane from not being able to start or put time into anything big.

Strider 2

Been playing this a lot over the last few days. Last night I managed to put together a 20 million point S-rank clear; it's a little sloppy in a few places, but I'm still pretty satisfied with it. The game has some major issues imo, but aside from Volgarr, it's the only other action/platformer I've come across that's actually fun & interesting to play for score. That's always a huge plus.

I think there is a LVL1 Dark Arisen challenge on YouTube? Or on GameFAQs? The stuff you find there (equipment) is even better than the normal, vanilla Dragon's Dogma post-game equipment and with major luck and stubbornnes it should be doable because you would level up very fast.

EDIT: here it is:

You can try your luck, lol. I know I managed to kill some wolves there @ level 20 in the first room. In the end I returned there @ level 60 and it was manageable. Remember that there are two phases of the Dark Arisen:

- 1st playthrough (kill the Dark Arisen boss)
- 2nd playthrough - there are different monsters, different equipment *and* the Dark Arisen boss fight is very different

2nd playthrough being tough as nails highlights the magnificent combat of game.

What class are you maining now? Sorcerer or Ranger?
I'm maining Strider and will switch to Ranger after I've mastered it.
Though I'm considering a different play through with a Sorcerer.
