Yes it is.

You said you couldn't get past dark shiva despite the fact she's optional.

Heh, am I the only one playing Yakuza 5 in here? 30 hours in, haven't even finished the second chapter yet. Dope game so far, for some reason I never get tired of all the little sidequests and shit you can do.

About 4 hours into SOMA.

I think I'm starting to enjoy it more as it begins to explore the questions the story brings up. The concept of human brain scans transferred in to machines and what exactly does that make them. It's interesting stuff.

But the beginning bits were rough, I honestly was not enjoying the parts where you walk around 'outside'. I assume that will come back but hopefully it doesn't happen that often.

Xrd is fucking incredible and the most impressive fighting game package I've played since the 00's. Hoooooly shit, what a presentation. GG was my go to fighter in high school so it feels good to be back. My only issue so far are the unlocked characters and the fact there's no wicked Opening at boot up.

The character intros makes me geek out. Fuck yes!

The presentation in this game makes Street Fighter IV and V look like hot doo doo. :lol

Xenoblade X chapter 9 boss... what the fuck? Difficulty level has gone WAY up on this fight. I'm at level 40 and have the best of the Heavy Skells (the 500,000 credit one). Even that doesn't seem to be very effective since I can't damage him that much. Is there something I'm missing? Or do I just need to grind even more?

This series would have made the weeb me from 15 years ago weep with joy, but I just don't know if I have the patience for it now.

Just got back from vacation to find SMTxFE #FE and Tokyo Xanadu package.  Still gotta finish Ao no Kiseki and get back to Tri-ace's Exist Archive.  But yeah, 2016 gonna be good times for jrpgs.  SMT4-Final out in a month in Japan on 2/10, then you got Star Ocean 5, Ys8, Persona 5, FFXV, and maybe Tales of Beseria.  Hopefully not many of them ended up being let downs like Xenoblade X & Zesteria were last year.

TitS 2

This series would have made the weeb me from 15 years ago weep with joy, but I just don't know if I have the patience for it now. (Image removed from quote.)

Eh, stick with it.  There's some good stuff that's as smart and well written as any crpg these days.

The game picks up halfway.  I was kind of annoyed by the TEST OF THE DAY episodic nature of the chapters, but that ends around halfway at the end of Ch.5 I think.  The 2nd half of the game is where the good stuff is.

Getting closer to the end of Soma, really great execution and I'm ok with everything being over explained and coherent, but game is too much Dead Space for its own good.  By the end 1/3rd feeling a lot of been there, done that.  In a world where Dead Space & Bioshock didn't exist, this would probably be amazing but as is it feels a bit derivative.  Otherwise it's a quality game and pretty lengthy too for the gameplay/story.

Picked up the digital adaptation of BattleLore on Steam. It more or less satisfied what I was looking for (a miniature wargaming experience on the cheap that I could play without interacting with fa\tg\uys irl) but mechanically I'm really not impressed; the way movement is handled doesn't really sit well with me and the asymmetric aspects of the armies is very well worn territory (evil does more damage, good gets better defense and combat tricks).

Curse Mordheim for being a fairly faithful adaptation of the tabletop game. :'(

Finished Soma yeah, this game/story would've been so much better without the horror aspect of Dead Space style space zombie infestation.  The actual sci-fi plot underneath that is great and really strong enough to stand on its own.  The horror story felt pretty disconnected and wasn't even scary, just had a few sections with annoying mechanics.  Would've been even better as a pure adventure game with no enemies, just puzzles.

Worth a play for the story if you like sci-fi.  It's covers ground that's been covered in other mediums but not really in games before.

Thumbs up.

I watched an LP of it and one thing that really stood out to me is how slowly Simon catches on. He doesn't understand the implications of the first 'coin flip' (which, granted, is just a confusing methaphor). Alright. He should, as he's seeing and interacting with living proof, but OK. Then he blows up the second time and it kind of spoils the mood. It's clearly intentional, but I don't know what they were trying to go for. Is it his subconcious protecting him from reality yet again? Still odd.

Just started Chapter 11 in Xenoblade X. My long winter vacation is over and I managed to put in 75h so far... I've been keeping up with all of the Normal and Affinity missions though I'm gonna need to grind affinity for all the characters I don't use when I do the postgame. I need to get a LOT of money for those level 50 skells now, and I can't find research probes anywhere :(

Finally got around to playing another mobile game, played through Monument Valley.  Gorgeous art and presentation and the most polished (in a Nintendo seal of quality way) version of Echochrome's gameplay yet.  But it's super easy, short and most of all super easy yeah.  Only a few sections really shine gameplay-wise and live up to the Echochrome level of thought required.  But on the other hand as an interactive story telling art piece, it's pretty damn nice.  So, overall good game.

playing Assassin's Creed IV, almost beat it 100%. I hate myself for playing this easy-mode normie shit, but I'm a sucker for the historical setting and boy the game looks good. I need a PS4 so bad so I can actually play some new games.

I should get my ass into gear and play Undertale though, as I'm designing a retro fanservice RPG thing myself. Be good to see what makes that one tick

Yeah, AC is easy, but that's why you gotta make the assassinations that are free form fun but getting into it and planning out creative new ways to murder someone.

But yeah, considering how janky AC is I really don't know if I'd want more of a challenge tbh.

Was having a good time with Rebel Galaxy and then it started getting fuck hard - but only because the enemies I had to face simply had stronger ships and I would die almost instantly going into combat. Became obvious the game requires me to grind away at low level missions to get money and buy better ship parts. Really annoying how they balanced the difficulty.

Fired up Army of Two: the Devil's Cartel as I had it sitting on my 360 HDD since it was free on GWG several months ago.

The game is lol, this series has always been a guilty pleasure of mine due to it's un-ironic crassness and janky tps action. This edition has taken away the bromance emotes but it's still filled with racist, sexist and homophobic jokes thankfully.

+ Everything explodes when you shoot it
+ Lots of guns and lots of customisation of said guns
+ Dress up 100% PURE HETERO DUDEBROS in tight leather and gimp masks. If this shit is indeed a joke it's an elaborate one
+ Cheevos flow like wine, 1000/1000 with no DLC or online play required
+ Stab bad guys in the face then punch them simply by pressing RS
+ Cover movement system is pretty fluid and intuitive
+ Good AI for your partner and the enemies

- Guns have no kick and shitty sound effects make shooting less satisfying than it could be
- Nagging sense of loss of human dignity/integrity while playing

Yeah, the main challenge for me was trying to do the "optional objectives" - ie. actually be undetected. But the game was still cake but a really enjoyable thing, Knocked out the 100% in single player the other day. I loved the sea shanties, some of those tracks was fucken staggering

Fallout may have been the exact right length for the type of game, or rather the pace of the action, because I'm really, really tired of Fallout 2 already and I've yet to explore the southern parts of the map. I was in New Reno and made a quick stop in Broken Hills, but haven't really engaged with either location. I have zero patience for the combat at this point, especially with the increased number of enemies.

I might try once more with the difficulty at rock bottom, but I doubt it's going to give me any real desire to continue, even if it alleviates my annoyances.

Started playing the most epic console destroying game that is Asura's Wrath.  Played through the first 5 episodes past the first giant general boss.  So awesome.  Gives me Treasure nostalgia where the framerate tanks but it's ok because it feels MORE EPIC.

Game is hard to put down.  Reminds me of ZoE2 in that way.  Just like watching an edge of your seat badass movie.

Finally getting around to playing all of the Souls games this year and I'm up to Bloodborne.

The Central Yharnam -> Old Yharnam -> Cathedral Ward -> Hemwick progression is really some of the best level design in the entire series. 1-1 / Undead Burg levels of good.

Yeah, Jumping Flash is kind of like old-school Mario where it's simple and good platforming mechanics without bullshit UI/Story/etc...so it holds up.

I played through Resident Evil Revelations 2 Ep1 since it was free on PS4/X1 about a month ago.  Thought it was pretty mediocre.  Felt like what I'd expect from an uninspired 3rd party RE clone.  The combat totally sucks, yet it's way more combat heavy than pre-RE4 RE.  Capcom still has a big stiffy about designing RE games entirely around co-op so they suck in 1p, story is dumb as usual and there's just not much particularly creative or interesting.  It's just going through the motions.  I gave The Evil Within a lot of shit for some real bad level design at parts, but it's a 10x better old-school horror RE feel than this.  Glad it was free!  Now I don't have to ever care about buying the other eps :)

it's a damn shame what happened to resident evil. nowadays they can't even make a mechanically sound copy of an older game and that's pathetic. I'm hoping the re2 remake will be good or at least very conservative but i have my doubts. and i don't see the series turning around any time soon because Capcom chased away so many of their good employees :/

Playing through Elder Scrolls Online with my nephew through game share. I'm not an mmo guy so I don't have anything really intelligent to say towards the game in that light. It is exactly what I expected. An mmo lite version of skyrim. I like it so far. I'm only like level 15 or so. I'm sure hardcore mmo guys have lots of warranted criticisms of it but I'm only looking to get like 50 hours of enjoyment out of it instead of devoting my life to it like most mmo players so in that sense, it seems fine.

Tried playing Bloodborne but I was a bit high while that was going on so I died a lot. Not to mention even if I was sober I'd still be dying a lot since I suck at the Souls series. I want to like them so bad... but 3D combat + sparse checkpoints + severely punishing you for mistakes means I can't seem to make any progress.

Also played more XenoX. Still on doing the Normal Missions. 3 day weekend coming up so hopefully I can beat it then.

That's what happens with lifestyle games. They're close enough to be the #1 go-to, more than any other game (worth trying), but things are never perfect because such is the world, hence pointless anger. I was like that with D3 until I moved the fuck on. It sunk in very early that this wasn't the iteration of ARPG I enjoyed (I would have hated Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance too if I had tried to make it a mainstay), but I stuck with it because I had to see it through, I had to be there, see how it changes. But there came a time when I was fighting to stay awake while playing. I uninstalled and played other stuff instead.

Now I devide my time between Dirty Bomb, Path of Exile and whatever single player thing on my list. Currently Tales of Phantasia, had to terminate Fallout 2 early.

Is Shadow Complex legit good? I remember it having some hype, but in my first couple of minutes the game feel really stiff. Doesn't help that I'm not feeling the scenario either.

I got it a couple years ago after hearing about how good it is.

I think its a bland, soulless, boring, but competent Super Metroid clone. Really overrated, exploration means getting really boring upgrades, soundtrack is non-resistant, the story is bland, everything is bland.

I only played the demo for Guacamelee, but the demo was a lot funner than the couple of hours I spent with Shadow Complex.
OH!
