Been playing tons of Ace Combat 7 online. The mig-21 machine gun pod setup is so much fun lol. Love gunning down enemies and not using missiles

I've been at what I think is the endgame of Ys 8 for a couple days now (end of chapter 6), but I started to take it slow because I honestly don't want the game to end. The only side things left for me to do is to beat the boss in the Silent Tower, do the new raids and hunts, and catch the last king level fish. My in game time is at 65 hrs. I'll finish it up either today or tomorrow. :lol

IIRC there's a postgame "Endless" raid (that's not really endless, it's just 10 rounds or so but it still takes a while

Maybe those are the last 2-3 raids that I did? Every time I beat one, another pops up on Dogi's list and they're not story related.

Serious Sam HD - didn't play this in two decades. Nostalgia isn't hitting big, maybe because of the new graphics. But this holds up. tfw shooters were just fun. No pretentious attempts at movie story telling, no nasty military porn. Just alien hordes in ancient Egypt.  :doge

Also went back to Nioh 2 for doing a couple of sidequests NG+. Can't get enough of that combat. :rejoice

Beat it earlier with the true ending, but I think I'll do the post-game Old Crypt dungeon before deleting this from my Switch storage. I have none of the complaints that Bebpo had, as expected. I have the other Ys games on PC or Vita so I'll get to them all eventually, but 8 is my favorite of the franchise right now and one of my favorite action jrpgs.

I’ve been juggling between Animal Crossing, Ace Combat 7, and the Kingdom Hearts Final Mix (?!!) the past couple of days. The tonal whiplash between all three is fucking with me.

I'm sleep deprived, and I just started going back to work after literally not seeing the sun for a month. My brain is full of fuck  :mindblown

All on the Switch:

Plus Alpha - Shoot em up from 1989. It’s a good 6/10 game as it’s not very refined but it has a lot of uguu~ in it. Not bad for an $8 game if you like these types of games.

Jamestown - Loved this on the PC so I’m having fun here. Cleared most of the stages and challenges on the highest setting. Kind of wished there were a couple more levels to the game.

Dynasty Warriors 8 XL - It was on sale. I beat this game on PS4 but don’t remember much from it. Gave me extra gold for having a WO4 save. I always thought 8 was one of the weaker DW games and my mind hasn’t changed here. Thought about getting WO3 Ultimate if it has English subtitles.

I've been playing it a bit. Really like the cartoony look and relative simplicity of it [especially after coming off FFVIIR].

Waiting for a price cut. Looks like they put alot more effort into it compared to the Secret of Mana remake, but still can't justify 50€ for it.

Just beat Moonbrooke in DQB2 and then my FF7r package arrived so I dived into that. Just got to ch 4. Liking it more than I thought so far, even the filler fetch quests aren't -that- bad so far. My only real complaint is that the NPCs are chatterboxes and don't shut up when you're walking past, you frequently have 10 dialogues going on at once.

Beat the boss right after the first class change in Trials at about 10 hours. Super fun game, and the looking at the skill tree, the combat system should open up after a few more level ups since the classes add a bunch of cool mechanics.

Good weeb games :rejoice

Tried the mana demo and did a chunk as Hawk, then watched a let's play of the original as Hawk to compare. Pretty crazy how 1:1 the remake is, kinda like DQXI's 2d mode but in reverse.
The spritework in the original sure is nice and game moves a bit quicker in story & battle, but otherwise doesn't seem like I'd miss that much just playing this new one.

I beat Control last night. The first few hours of that game were great, and then it's like "wait, this is the whole game?" A game about an invasion of cosmic space monsters, and all you ever do is run around sterile corridors (that sometimes get red and glowy) and fight possessed humans. Not even a cool boss fight at the end? Come on. The Fridge boss was basically the only good enemy design in the game. :zzz

I loved the lore and SCP Foundation trappings, but the game never really goes anywhere. Even the unlockable weapon forms are pointless, you can easily beat the game with the starting pistol and Throw.

I haven’t done this since near launch, but I think you can cheese the fight by going into cover and keep aim peeking so she has her sights set on you. That way she's less likely to fuck off while you drop a box (or tank  :doge) on her head.

I thought the Fridge was the worst boss haha

Control's negative is like Alan Wake's negative in that Remedy is making single concept games that are super repetitive and pulled together by narrative and visuals. Control lives and dies on it's combat. It's essentially a character action game like Bayonetta/DMC as a TPS (kinda like Vanquish except not as much, or no, cover shooting), the level design is whatever, the story is interesting and mostly just a bunch of neat notes and good voice acting, music is cool, art is cool, but what keeps you playing should be the pure joy of each combat encounter that get more and more challenging with different enemy setups.

The boss fights are the worst part imo because the combat just isn't designed very well for single enemy encounters and it's about crowd control. They're boring sitting back patterns repeating like the fridge boss.

I think it's great for what it is. Helps that the graphics are A++ (which also helped Alan Wake's repetition). Haven't bought/played the first DLC, gonna wait until the 2nd is out and play both.

It took me about 20 to get to the end of the original and probably a couple hours were grinding for stupid drops for the final class change. Eventually I found an RNG manip that worked. The game was meant to be replayed multiple times with all the different characters and class combinations, but the story variations were so small that unless you like the gameplay that much it wasn't worth it.

I keep forgetting to post about this, but a few months ago I bought this 3DS game called Ever Oasis which was marketed as "from the creator of the Mana Series". It's a fairly light hearted action RPG with pseudo town building mechanic (that part is super shallow). It is a surprisingly long game, I'm not even sure how many hours I've dropped on it, but it kind of just keeps going, mostly by having you constantly revisit places to do little sidequests and stuff. The dungeons have some puzzle elements that require having different powers from your various villagers, which leads to A LOT of warping back to your base to swap party members, which can be pretty tedious. Also you AI party sucks in combat.

I paid $20 for it, and it doesn't make me feel like I need a guide or to take a bunch of notes, so it is perfect to play in bed to relax.

Yeah, I think demi is underselling it. All the reviews from users I'm reading say it's 20 hours for first playthrough. And considering it's the exact same game as the SFC but slower (cutscenes, battles, dungeon length), it should be just as long if not longer.

Apparently the Halo Reach update on the Master Chief Collection made both Anniversary games (1 and 2) run worse on the xbox. Seems to have some double buffer v-sync that constantly pushes the games from 60fps to 30.

Oh well, almost done with the first game.

the lore and setting of Control is A+ and the actual plot is a C

I liked some of the implications of the ending plot points but the game doesn’t really do anything with it and if anything the sequel fodder seems more focused around Dylan which is :snore

Especially the bosses are incredibly uninspired, given the setting.
Still loved the game and gameplay, so i'm hoping for a sequel for that Max Payne --> Max Payne 2 jump.  ::)

Made it to Wall Market and they really nailed the vibe in the remake.

So far, weakest part of the game has been chapter 5 - the only environment worse than sewers in games is subway tunnels... and this part of the game didn't add anything but padding.

Finishing FFVII remake this week then starting TLOU left behind as apparently I need to play it to truly appreciate the absolute fuckery that number 2 will bring. I already have been spoiled a fair bit, but in lockdown so fuck it may as well see it play out. Deffo getting a disc version and selling on eBay after though.

also played that HYPERCHARGE: Unboxed demo which is pretty neat FPS/TD crossover set in a world of toys, but I was early to Sanctum so it wasn't totally unique to me and some of the mechanics are off from what the Sanctum team learned in order to make things less clunky, so I'll wait on it to be cheaper/updated

the effect where it transitions into gameplay from a blueprint is pretty fancy though, was worth trying the demo just to see that

I like how The Master Chief Collection shines a spotlight on how shit the 343 games are. It's like neither 343 and the Coalition understood the franchises they got handed.

Edit: Giving that Halo Infinite trailer another look it at least seems like they're going back to the artstyle of the original trilogy. Now just take the gameplay as well.
