South Park Tower Defense

the South Park game is fun but the later stages require you to run around and destroy/rebuild towers based on the wave of creeps. its fucking distinguished mentally-challenged for single player, but I guess would work well for multiplayer.

How does that have anything to do with it being fun? It's not like actual dj-ing, and who cares that "half the mashups" aren't in key when they're done by artists who are a million times more popular than some backyard dj like yourself.

Did they patch the last level? that was "what's wrong with it" when it first launched.  But yeah, great, great game.

meh, I thought it was better than some forced big bossbattle. It wasn't the best way to end the game, but it didn't detract from the experience.

Now all they need is Piano Hero and they'll be all set to do Guitar Hero: Linkin Park

Edit: Oh and Scratch is apparently the better game.

Yes, they might as well rip off all the Bemani games and put out a copy of Keyboard Mania next.

don't tell me you're one of those guys...c'mon, Konami didn't know what to do with the formula.  Rock Revolution showed they still have no fucking clue how they dropped the ball, when their games didn't require much adjustment to reach GH/RB levels.  Simpler timing, better tracklist...that was all konami needed. :lol

kinda ot, but do people actually trade in games to Gamestop?

I went today to see how much I would get for a few games.  Three games that were released between 2007 and 2008.  The highest price for one was under $2.  What's better is that the "trade 3, get $10 extra" deal doesn't work since the games need to be worth at least $2.00.  The best deal I could get is 25% extra for each game.  So, shit, that's about 75 cents extra for all three.  I thought people actually did this stuff.  Based on this one experience, it's most cost effective to keep the games for the plastic cases.

I don't give a shit about any of these games.  Doesn't change the fact that Harmonix and the like cashed in by ripping off Konami.

I had my fun with Beatmania back in '98/'99 and that was enough for me.  Give me games like Bust-A-Move (Groove),Gitaroo Man, and even Parappa over all these bland instrument games any day.

The only mixes that interest me are the Daft Punk mashups, and that's not enough to justify spending $120 on this, much less $200 for the Renegade Edition.

Didn't Harmonix and Red Octane approach Konami with the Guitar Hero concept, and Konami rejected it? :lol

Yeah, and once Konami knew that they missed out on a goldmine, they approached Activision and Raw Thrills to do Guitar Hero Arcade.

It's been selling briskly, last I heard, so it's working out in the end indeed, Green Man.  :-*

Ditched Halo ODST for COD4, as anticipated. ODST missions were alright, but I couldn't stomach yet another trek through that boring city. Probably doesn't help that I despised the earth scenarios in Halo 2.

Currently letting my COD4 k/d ratio suffer in an effort to get good with shotguns.  :'(

I know I'm a year late but I bought Dead Space for the PS3 about 3 or 4 weeks ago and haven't touched until yesterday.  I actually had the game last year but I was too busy to sit down and really play it - I think I only got through maybe the first 20 minutes or so before I lost interest but I found it for cheap awhile back and decided to give it another chance. Now I understand what all the fuss was about.  Pretty freaking awesome.  I haven't finished yet but so far I'm really digging the story even if it's just a warmed over Event Horizon and the graphics and sound design are obviously impressive.  The chapters are a little too repetitive though and despite all the hype, I haven't found the game to be scary at all, but I guess that's to be expected.

Dead Space is never really scary.  Like RE4 it works because it's fun and like Bioshock the atmosphere is neat.  Looking forward to what they do with the sequel.

Right now I'm playing way too many games:
-Halo ODST:  Haven't touched this all weekend.  It's a solid FPS, but it's the most boring game of everything I'm playing so I don't pick it up often.
-Blue Dragon DS: Fun!  Reminds me a little of FFXII meets Diablo
-Demon Souls:  OMG SO GOOD.  Time flies when playing this game.  I really don't have time to play it, but somehow I think I'm put 60-80 hours into it and beat it by the end of the month.
-Katamari Forever:  Started this today and ...it's not half bad?  Color me very surprised.  Glad I got it for $30 since it's mainly a comp, but the graphics, the presentation and the useful jump button for getting out of stuck situations is all fairly cool.  I'm having fun...who knew?
-Ninja Gaiden Sigma:  Bayonetta demo got my wanting my action game fix, so playing through this.  The 2nd level is as awful as I remembered it being on Xbox.  Horses smh, bow smh.  Oh and the camera sucks too.

The chance I'll finish any of that before I get Brutal Legend and Uncharted 2 on tuesday?  0000.1%  ^^;

wow, I'm literally shocked to find a good number of people playing Syphon Filter Logan's Shadow online.  Finished up the single player game, which was awesome, and wanted to humor myself by seeing if anyone was playing.  It's a freaking PSP game from 2007.  Granted, the PSP Go release may have caused it to be more popular, but still, wow, that's kinda amazing.  Only time I've really played multiplayer games on a handheld before were the second Bleach game for DS and Mario Kart on the DS.  Syphon Filter is actually pretty fun in multiplayer and runs smooth.

Juggling between:

- Dead Space Extraction: It's surprisingly good. Okay production values, the rail-shooting can get pretty intense, and the narrative's kind of gripping. Honestly, what more do you need?
- Fallout 3: Skipped all the DLC stuff so I can wait and play on the PS3/the big TV (LIKE AN IDIOT). Game's a bit buggier now, but I'll live.
- Fire Emblem DS: Picking up the game again after a couple of months off. Great bathroom break game.
- Live-A-Live: Solid RPG. Surprised Squareheads aren't latching to it as much as they do with most of Square's SNES library.
- Hours and hours of MAME with a couple of buddies from work. Someone built a ghetto MAME cabinet out of some spare PC components lying around.

I don't think you can patent a video game genre.  blah blah rip off blah blah.  They took a concept and honed it to make it playable and fun.  There's a reason why beatmania PS2 and most (all?) japanese music games sold like shit here-- horrible tracklist for weeaboos and annoying, overly strict mechanics that aren't fun for anyone.

Got to the end of this major dungeon in Blue Dragon DS only to find out the boss is impossible for my characters.  Not "I need to grind a few levels" or "I need a better strategy", but...impossible right now.  45 mins of about 15 retries on the boss killed any gaming mood I had for the rest of the night.

Luckily in BD at this point there are TWO major 2-3 hour epic dungeons so since I can't beat the boss of one, I'll just start on the other one and hopefully by the end of that when I'm stronger I can come back and beat this one :\

I'm really torn on DJ Hero; I'm getting to the point where I don't want to buy anything directly from Activision, after reading this about how they've dealt with Scratch and 7 Studios. They buy the studio which is making a competing product on contract to a rival publisher, then there were hijinx with the game's code, since there is likely (almost certainly) a conflict of interest, then they  have layoffs for half the studio they have just purchased... Pretty sketchy.

Yeah, except for the graphics/music and controls.  I'd say it's one of the better dungeon crawler I've played on DS.  The game gets major negative points for no AI partner control since if you're gonna make a game that is hard as nails and depends on 3 characters at once, having to rely on the random AI to do smart things means close call fights end up luck based to a certain degree.

I have yet to find a game, or movie even, to be scary, but I thought they did a really good job establishing an atmosphere of dread, and isolation. That's more than most games of the "type" have accomplished.
