Yeah, but who gives a fuck?  It's a fighting game.  If you're not down with the multiplayer, they aren't for you.

Talking arcade charts, SF4 has basically been " :lol" ever since it came out.  It usually hovers around the #5 or #6 spot.

Here's the latest chart from Arcadia:

1. Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion
2. Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam VS Gundam NEXT
3. Melty Blood: Actress Again (+1)
4. Blazblue (-1)
5. Guilty Gear XX Accent Core
6. Street Fighter IV
7. Virtua Fighter 5R
8. Daemonbride (+1)
9. KOF2002 Unlimited Match (NEW)
10. Sugoi! Arcana Heart 2: Tenkousei Akane to Nazuna (-3)

Tekken 6 has been number one with a bullet for well over a year (maybe almost the full two!), knocking out Gundam, which has never been able to reclaim its top spot.  At one point when Blood Rebellion came out, there were TWO Tekken 6s in the top 10.   :lol

If you're wondering about Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom, it cracked the top 10 like once or twice, but got pushed out pretty quickly.  Daemonbride is a 2D fighter from Examu, who makes Arcana Heart.

VF5R's placement is so fucking sad for the best game ever.

BRING IT HOME BITCHES

VF5 lost a lot of its popularity, even after R was released.  Everyone switched to the more-accessable Tekken.  It makes you wonder if there is even going to be a VF6, since Sega's too busy making more shitty Sonic and friends to care.

I still find Tekken 1000x more difficult and non-accessible than VF.  I mean my non-gaming friends picked up VF pretty fast and became big VF fans, whereas we try to play Tekken and no one can figure out how to play.  I think it has to do with the move commands being more complicated in Tekken, whereas you can figure 80% of them out in VF just through experimenting pressing all 8 directions with one of the three buttons or P+K and then trying a double tap in one of the 8 directions with the same or B->F.

So it always confuses me when non-gaming people in Japan get into Tekken.

Also 5R's stage change is SO GOOD.  Random stage makeup is absolutely genius and really effects matches and makes them different everytime even against the same players.  Plus it makes wall characters so much more formidable when they get a boxed in stage.

If they never make a VF6 and never home port VF5R, I'm seriously tempted to import the arcade version in a few years when the price sinks.  But I'd rather pay $30 USD for a home port than thousands :(

That's weird. Tekken has always been button-mash-friendly, less than SC but way more forgiving than VF.

Ok, this makes sense.  If you just randomly hit buttons without using the stick you won't get much in VF.

I guess I was mistaken for thinking noobs actually wanted to learn/use moves.  Not just blindly mash.

The Jin adventure mode in T5 PS2 was completely fucking horrid.  That's not Tekken Force though.  Its gotta be a side-scrolling brawler.  That was my favorite part of T4!

Unfortunately the one in 6 isn't a side-scroller from what I've seen, so it's based on T5's Jin mode. There's a twist in the formula though, something called an "Arena" where normal fights take place, and that's where the epilogues can be unlocked.

It looks different (and better) than TK5's shit-Jin mode, thankfully.  I'm just going to go through it to get the endings n' shit and never touch it again.  BTW, most (if not all) endings are up on Youtube.  More wacky, zany shit as usual.   :lol

Bebpo, you're WEIRD.   :lol

Tekken is and has always been much, much easier to play than Virtua Fighter.  VF is the deepest and most complex of all the 3D fighters.

That's weird. Tekken has always been button-mash-friendly, less than SC but way more forgiving than VF.

Ok, this makes sense.  If you just randomly hit buttons without using the stick you won't get much in VF.

Nah.  I beat one of my friends one time by using Lei Fei, sitting AWAY from the TV, and button-mashing.  It was hilarious.  You can mash in every game out there.

But they are still making money off of it, plus with big-name players like Daigo even getting on regular Japanese TV shows, the game being featured in tournaments, etc., it brings interest and recognition to the game.  What I also would like to know is how SF4 is distributed...it's a Type-X2 game.  Wouldn't that just mean the game ship on a disc?  If so, all they'd have to do is press SSF4 arcade discs that operators can use in existing SF4 cabs.  It's just more money for them...I don't get it.

And yeah, Lei Fei is really the only mash friendly VF character.  He's kind of like the Eddie Gordo of VF.  Pai and Lau are the next closest, but at most you'll get PPPK variations and anyone can counter that.

I'm not weird!  In VF say I don't know ANYTHING and I want to learn Akira.  All I need to do is:
1. tap each direction with P and I'll find his various interrupter attacks that will break a lot of the opponents moves
2. double tap each direction and P and I'll find his offensive Elbow, his DF/DF+P juggler
3. try b,f with P and I'll find his BITCH SMACK knockdown which works both ways
4. then by GASP tapping U or D I will learn how to side step :o

With that in hand I can actually play Akira at a low, but not noob level by blocking, dodging and countering and offensively attacking.  That takes about 3 mins!  I can even do awesome combos!  Anything I want!  Freeform!  Not just canned ones!  By flowing up the DF,DF+P, the F,F+P, or B,F+P if they connect.  It's possible I could beat someone else who is low-level or beat SP opponents with just what I've learned here.

In Tekken, I pick Kazuya and do the same 4 steps with one of the punch buttons.  I learn much less and I can't beat anyone.  I also can't do freeform combos so I'm frustrated instead of satisfied.

I dunno, I find VF super accesible because it's SO EASY TO MAKE COMBOS.  Most hits float on counter and a lot of moves launch for juggles.  Then you can do ANYTHING YOU WANT and if in your mind it should connect using the game's physics then...hey it connects!  In Tekken it feels like freeform combos require higher knowledge of the game since you float the enemy less and less stuff connects.  And the problem with the basic moves is that instead of a simple command that anyone can learn like F+P or F,F+P, or B,F+P the commads are like HP+LK -> HP+LP which how the fuck are you supposed to figure out on your own without a move list.  Then again if you just MASH THE BUTTONS that move would probably come out at some point.

Also in VF the 80% of the move commands are shared across characters.  So once you learn one character's movelist, you can pick any other character and press the same directions with the same buttons and get that character's moves.  This makes the game really easy to pick up and play for newbies once they learn a single character's movelist.  Tekken doesn't really do this.  If I press what I do as Kazuya I'm not going to get most of King's moves.

Beat Machinarium

BEST ADVENTURE GAME SINCE GRIM FANDANGO.  BUY IT!!!

The only complaint I have is that there are some slight control annoyances probably because it's done in flash.  Otherwise near-perfect game.  Great visuals, great music, great story, great puzzles, good length.  Absolutely awesome.  Makes all the Telltale games cry in their pants as well as all these other "adventure games" that are boring and full of fetch quests.  The mini-game puzzles in Machinarium are hard but SO GOOD.  I hope this sells a billion copies and makes everyone in the game industry wake up and realize how to make a game with <3

the demo was pretty great

Sure you can do freeform combos; this isn't Tekken 2 anymore.  You can do the same kind of thing in Tekken, it just might be double tapping and hitting a whopping TWO buttons instead of one.  :P  Akira is a hell of a lot harder to learn to use effectively than Kazuya is, that's for sure.  The same type of "learn a couple of moves, fuck my friends up" beginner stuff is there.  You just described every 3D fighting game.

Depends on who you use.  Tekken has a shitload more characters.  I'm learning Lili now, and finding plenty of easy-to-do moves.  Nothing like what you mentioned...more like f+both punches or f+LK+RK, then LK, then RK.  SOUNDS DIFFICULT.

Took me 5 hours since I already knew the solution to the first 3 screens from the demo.  There's almost no backtracking or filler though, so it's a good 4-5 hours of pure gameplay.

I really don't see how anyone can argue that regardless of VF's "learning curve", the move commands are kept really simple compared to Tekken.  The only other 3d fighter that has simple and easy to learn moves like VF is DoA IMO.  SC is somewhere between VF and Tekken.

Finished Dead Space last night and was very impressed with it. Great pacing, sound design, and overall presentation. Will definitely attempt to replay it on Impossible sometime later. My only gripe was that the last few stages (excluding the final chapter) felt like filler and really didn't do much to differentiate one from the other like the previous chapters. I hope when they make Dead Space 2 that they make more areas like the last one (a mix of being on a planet surface and corridors).

Next on the list: Mirror's Edge, Uncharted I, and possibly Street Fighter IV again.

Finally started playing Batman AA on the PC. Can't believe I held back on buying this game for so long, it's just as amazing as everyone says. Only gripe I have so far is that my OCD kicked in far too early in the game and I'm in detective mode nearly half the time looking for stuff.

It's the Metroid Prime scan visor syndrome, except that it's kind of harder to toggle out of detective mode.

For $20 that seems a bit short considering it's an adventure game, and I'm having a hard time deciding if I should get Torchlight or not (also $20).  But the demo was pretty damn good.

I dunno, most adventure games that retailed for $40-50 back in the day were about 10-12 hours.  The Telltale ones are like $8 for 3 hours but then they're full of filler padding and more like 1-2 hour games.  Heck most PS3/X360 games were 6 hours at the start of the gen for $60.

I dunno; how hard is f, f, P or PP?   :P  And "outside his throws?"  He's a grapple character!   :lol

I posted that move because it's one of the more "complex" inputs for Lili, and it's still easy to pull off.  No strict timing or anything, unlike say...the stun palm of doom that Akira has.

Quote
Maybe it's just me and every person I've met in real life who plays fighting games.  Dunno!  None of us "get" Tekken and we can all play VF.

I have never talked to anyone besides yourself that has said that Virtua Fighter is easier to get into than Tekken.  Ever.

VF definitely has some easier inputs on basic moves, but for the other stuff?  Complex as fuck.  Timing that is far stricter than anything in Tekken.

Tekken has its share of easy to pick up and play characters, and then the more complex guys.  Not everyone plays like King.

Well you've played P&C adventure games before so you know how much they're worth to you.  It's a really, really good P&C with great art, music (you get the soundtrack free too), puzzles, and story and it's about 5 hours long for $20.

P&C gaming sucks. Just go buy scratches. Why isnt Scratches on Steam? Because Steam sucks.

Time has not treated Return to Zork well at all. I used to love that game when I was a kid despite its stupidly hard difficulty. Still like its overly epic intro theme.

yeah, that's the thing.  It's probably literally 5 hours for $20.  I replay adventure games every couple of years (like, more than 3).  I'll think about it.  As I said, Torchlight is $20 and it's even hard deciding to get that at a time when so many other games are coming out.

Ive been cranking the DLC for Magic XBLA, its pretty good, the new decks are excellent.

Really have to get back to Tales of Vesperia, I think about it every day and I have no idea why I shelved it.

Just got Castlevania Adventure ReBirth on Wii (Japan-only for the time being).

Not bad, not bad at all!

The game's look reminds me of Dracula XX on SNES, and the sound is like a higher-quality Castlevania Bloodlines. It looks a little too blurry though.  I haven't played Castlevania Adventure on Gameboy in ages, and can't remember if the control is the same or not.  It plays like the classic NES 'Vanias, with just jump and attack buttons.  No whip upgrades; instead you can get items that power up your whip and let you shoot fireballs for a limited amount of time.

ReBirth doesn't appear to have hidden levels, but it does have multiple paths, with different layouts and enemies, that are "hidden" and have to be accessed with a key item that is only available once per level (it seems).  The first level has two locked doors, and so far on stage two, I've seen three.

It also seems a little too easy. I beat the first stage barely even getting hit. Hope it gets more challenging.  There was also an option to change the player style to classic after I quit out the first time.  I don't know what the difference is.
