Mass Effect, still two ally achievements to get which I wouldn't mind but it means another 4 or so hours inching up mountains with the mako  >:(

Demi and lyte, you were right. I tried SoR3 earlier today just for the achievement (beat that clown without killing Roo) and it plays so much better than SoR2. The soundtrack sucks in comparison though. So far I only like the song from the first area. Me and my best friend played through SoR2 yesterday and every single stage had a good or great track.

Anyway, the achievements for UGC are all pretty easy except for Dr. Robotniks Mean Bean Machine. I'll go for 1000.

I see, thanks. I'm probably gonna have to use the code for Comix Zone as well. Fun game, but it's hard as hell.

Comix Zone aint too hard, just save often and reload when you lose too much life. Save states are sorta cheating but the option is there so why not!

Now that finals are over, I installed Brothers in Arms Hells Highway and I'll probably play some TF2.

Brothers in Arms is ok so far.  I forgot what year it came out and was surprised to hear it is a 2008 game.  The cover system is pretty terrible and the visuals just seem really off.  Faces all look frog-ish and it doesn't help that they're trying to tell a Band of Brothers-ish story.  For some reason they also make you go off and do CoD2 light sections where you just stroll through a building killing enemies, which kinda defeats the "squad leader" appeal of the game.  The main combat stuff is still fun and it's cool not to be totally useless with a gun now.  Though, AI is surprisingly stupid for a game that requires AI not to be.  I kept trying to have my Bazooka squad clear out an MG set up in a quaint little shop, and the dude just stands there doing nothing.  At this point I was trying to flank from the left while my assault team is suppressing from the front and I had to run back and provide extra suppressing fire so the bazooka squad wouldn't die.  Then I adjusted the bazooka squad position by maybe five feet, and miraculously he managed to fire at the same MG next I was telling him to attack five feet and forty seconds ago.  But yeah, fun game.

Loving me some R6: Vegas.

I've been meaning to pick that up (along with Vegas 2) since I heard the PC versions of each were $5 around here.

Tonight I played:

-Modern Warfare 2: I think this was my fifth time playing (although I have over eight hours logged in) the game.  After usually sucking and getting ranked at the bottom every game, I came out ahead and really kicked some ass, doing well in every match thereafter.  Something just clicked and I was suddenly finding myself in ideal locations to snipe or go up behind people to take them out.  At level 19 now.

-Tekken 6: Just for a bit.  I think I am feeling burned out on this right now.  Too many distinguished mentally-challenged fellows online.  Switched back to SF4.

-SF4: Played this on PS3 for a change.  I thought I was a little rusty; kept losing for stupid reasons, then I realized it was the internet connection.  Tekken 6 really is better than SF4 online.  I had to readjust to some of the lag and then I did much better.  Also only played for a bit and turned it off after winning a championship set.  I did not have this lag "problem" on the 360 version the other day.   :P

-Queen's Blade Spiral Chaos: My  :-[ game of the week.  It seems to basically be Super Robot Wars (from what I know of it) with titties.  Kinda fun.  Makes me want to check out Super Robot Wars now.  Didn't one or two of them come out in English?

Really liking it so far, even though I didn't care for the demo. The combat could be a little deeper but whatever, it's not the main reason I'm playing the game.

Before that I was playing Eternal Sonata. Nearly done with Chapter 3, so at least I have the brokeness of Viola and Jazz to get me through the rest of this crap. :piss Fort Fermata

And some Gundam vs Gundam NEXT+ on the side. Virtual-On with Gundams - what's not to love? Shining Finger >>> *

Finished Bloody Palace DMC4, feels good man

Nice. Dante or Nero? I love playing as Nero, but having the gun mapped to the right trigger makes my hand cramp after a while :-\

Now that Bayonetta is out Capcom should take some notes and announce DMC5 already.

I am playing some DoWII multi this morning. What a shitty community. Its the first time I've played the game in months, so I am a but rusty, but I've already been told what to do by teammates (who then proceeded to disconnect) and then I took a screencap of this convo that happened post-match:

It appears that two of the OG games came out in English on the GBA.

Are those fan-translated games PSP titles, or PSOne titles?

super robot taisen alpha gaiden is a psone title but as i said super robot taisen 3 was the first console super robot taisen, that means it's a... err... snes game

the OG games got packaged in a single ps2 remake but atlus hasn't translated it so i guess there isn't any reason to care about it

I never bothered with the OG GBA games, but I've got SRW OG and OG Gaiden on the PS2 (along with every other SRW title on the PS1 and PS2). Is OG Gaiden original material?

Lyte knows Japanese. And besides, SRW titles are playable if you don't know Japanese.

My kanji is beyond piss-poor.   :lol  Still easy enough to look stuff up though.  I'd prefer to play these games in English, but yeah, Queen's Blade doesn't seem particularly difficult to play and I don't care about the story crap anyway.  Might need to translate a few of the items and that's about it.

My kanji is way worse than yours, but the SRW games are still totally playable, and if you have any knowledge of the plots for the series included in that particular game, it really helps.

I'm re-playing King's Field: The Ancient City :teehee

Having just played King's Field 2, I greatly appreciate the difference in controls and feel of each weapon. You can tell From Software really paid particular attention to these aspects. This really makes me want a next gen King's Field (not a spiritual successor). So many things they could improve upon and just create an awesome experience. This is the only game that can make me tense up as I come upon a new enemy (and try to defeat it without dieing).

I don't have any real knowledge of the plots for those mecha series.  But it's easy enough to download and check out these games.  There are some sellers on Amazon also offering the first Taisen GBA game for $20 new.  Might give that a try.  This is really not my kind of genre, but Queen's Blade seems simple enough and has some cool animations, which I see are just like SRW.

Finally played ODST; it sucked. No more difficult than any other Halo, no (real) new guns, too many drab environments, too much backtracking to find stupid beacons, and too much voice acting. It's worth a play if you enjoyed the previous campaigns, but nothing will really stick out -- probably because you spend half the game wandering through samey terrain accomplishing samey objectives and everything becomes one big samey blur. The added multiplayer stuff is cool but doesn't warrant the price unless you're one of those homos that enjoys multiplayer shooters on console

Got in about 4hrs of Dragon Age this afternoon. Doing the Circle of Magi quest now. I had a 3 mage party for a while there with Morrigan, Wynne, my mage character and Lelani for looting and melee that just fucking obliterated everything in its path. Even the solo stuff in the Fade is pretty easy going as long as you keep an eye on the health. Haven't needed to micromanage or pause much, and have still barely touched potions etc for the entire game.

I'm with OptimoPeach on ODST so far, although the actual firefights are still as fun as anything out there.  Everything else is meh.

Played some more Queens Blade.  Four characters in my party now (including one male, who is a healer and is totally useless in battles).  I've got a lot more figured out now, although I'm still not getting the best ways to target body parts.  Certain enemies are pretty stupid, but others will block multiple hits to the same area.  You can completely annihilate others if you have support, which is done by placing one character next to another (although so far only Leina and Tomoe can do this...the two original characters can't yet).  It didn't happen on any male enemy characters (I WONDER WHY), but beating the shit out of female enemies allows you to target another body part for extra damage, which results in various shots of them half-naked.  No surprise given the source material!

Does this pretty much sound exactly like SRW?  I downloaded one of the GBA OG ROMs, but the limited animation and story were kinda boring.  I'd definitely rather have the licensed mechs.

You don't target body parts in SRW, but other than that it sounds identical. SRW Z on the PS2 has incredible in-game animation. SRW A Portable on the PSP is pretty good for a portable game in terms of animation.

personaly i was never able to finish a single super robot taisen, they just get too boring as i get near the end "here are 8 fodder enemies, have fun tearing trough them like you did in the 30 stage before this"
maybe it's because i'm no big fan of SRPG,they just feel like rpg with half of the things that i like in rpg removed
heck it happened with fire emblem wii too (altough i guess i had the guts to finish the GC one)

I just don't understand why Blockbuster now requires you to give them your debit card to rent games. I mean, okay, but why? Why do I have to give you my goddamn debit card to rent a game when you're right in front of me? It's not like a free trial for blockbuster.com. If I have a membership card, why is that even necessary? No wonder that company is going out of business.

That said, my friend lemme borrow his wii. I rented Mario Galaxy and No More Heroes from Blockbuster.

Probably to make it easier to collect fees if you bring something back late or don't bring it back at all.

2. Use Play-Asia.  $25 USPS shipping?  You can get the game in two days from P-A by paying $18-$20 UPS or Fedex rates, plus they tend to ship the games out ahead of release, so you would have gotten it on thursday or friday.

There's a game I ordered from P-A that they never shipped to me, but I don't blame them for it.  For some reason, my credit card company decided that the $60 order I placed was a good time to freeze my account for possible fraudulent activity, and after I called them to confirm it the next day, the game changed to "ships in 1 week" at P-A, and my order status now has no ship date.   :-\

Tried NSMB Wii 4P for the first time tonight.  We gave my brother a copy of the game for Hanukkah.  It was pretty chaotic, and also hard to follow at times (part of that is due to playing on an old 20" 4:3 TV), but also fun.  It definitely seemed like it would be much easier to go for all the coins playing single player.  4P was just all over the place.

You don't target body parts in SRW, but other than that it sounds identical. SRW Z on the PS2 has incredible in-game animation. SRW A Portable on the PSP is pretty good for a portable game in terms of animation.

Cool, I'd like to try one of these in English, but I feel like I'm in graphics whore mode and would like animation that matches QB.  I'll give SRWA Portable a download.

personaly i was never able to finish a single super robot taisen, they just get too boring as i get near the end "here are 8 fodder enemies, have fun tearing trough them like you did in the 30 stage before this"
maybe it's because i'm no big fan of SRPG,they just feel like rpg with half of the things that i like in rpg removed
heck it happened with fire emblem wii too (altough i guess i had the guts to finish the GC one)

I doubt this is a genre I will ever get into that I'd play a lot of them.  Before QB (which is supposed only be around 15 hours the first time through), I have enjoyed Military Madness on the TG-16 and a bit of Advance Wars on GBA.  That's about it.  The one I really wanted to play, Namco X Capcom, I always heard sucked, so I never bothered with it.

Lyte, you obviously haven't been following the "everybody got fucked by P-A on FFXIII pre-orders" thread :P  I did order it at P-A, but then order a 2nd copy at ncsx after P-A screwed me.  ncsx shipped yesterday, P-A is lolz and got cancelled.

Anyhow for games that are not FFXIII, I'm paying $5-7 priority mail shipping and getting them at ncsx from now on.  P-A has officially lost me as a paying customer.

Almost no one I know in America has FFXIII in their hands as of the end of today.  This release has been a huge clusterfuck for importers.  I blame it on the PS3 being region free and everyone and their mom ordering the import even though they don't know a lick of Japanese.

Oh, I had no idea.  This is on GAF I take it.

Yep mixed into FF13 thread.  Don't worry, I figured you probably weren't following it since you aren't an rpg guy :)

Er...their facebook says they got the game "late" (as in on the Japanese release date) likely to enforce no one breaking the street date, and they are working hard to ship out everyone's copies over the weekend.  It sucks that it's late, but how is anyone "screwed?"

Well not "screwed" but P-A's been:

-not shipping in priority of those who pre-ordered earlier (random)
-not holding games in a group order so that it ships when all are in (instead ones go in and out of stock and you have to wait and hope all 3 will be in at the same time to ship)
-not holding 1st press games with pre-order bonuses when in group orders
-not giving 1st press copies at launch with pre-order bonuses in priority of those who pre-ordered first

I've had 3 of those 4 happen to me in December alone.  Which is why myself and a few other pissed off importers are changing who they do business with.

And that's why I prefer NCSX.

You preorder first, you get your copy first. You preorder early enough, you get the preorder bonus. Cheap priority shipping from New York means that if a game ships on Thursday, it'll be at my place in Seattle on Saturday.

Just beat Mirror's Edge for the 2nd time (on PC w/K&M this time).  First half was awesome speed running fun.  But yeah, I didn't mind the non-stop annoying gunfights in the last 30-40% of the game on my first run because it felt like a challenge, like a puzzle to find the right solution (path) to avoid the fights.  But on 2nd run where I just wanted to have fun platforming the handful of annoying gunfights really were irratatin and killed the replayability for those levels.

I could see myself playing the game for a 3rd time the next time I upgrade my video card, but I think I'd just stop 1/2 next time.

At least I can do time trials on the PC version now.
