I can't tell if you're joking or not.  ???
I should have specified that the guards were alerted, regardless of their proximity to my position. I didn't want to play the entire game sneaking around anyways (i played it much more juggernaut style), but everytime I tried a subversive approach it didn't work like I thought it should.

Oh, hey. Look at that, from the in-game Guerrilla Handbook:
Quote
This is your best friend. The sledgehammer is a versatile, non-threatening weapon that can smash through just about anything - and no ammo needed. Its (sic) silent, powerful attack makes it ideal for thinning EDF ranks without raising the alarm.
So much for that theory.

Run inside, grab the chest for some extra stickies, then blow up the top area with a Thermobaric around the bottom of the crown, then do it again to the other side. Get the crown to fall, which will destroy majority of the bricks, then go wild with stickies and hammer and chip away the rest until you get critical

Does the amount of Salvage ever pick up?

I'm wanting to just play through my character deaths, which frequently happens after an otherwise successful assault and demolition of a high-value target. Place is swarming, I'm trying to get some Salvage from the place that just fell over, and in most cases I've just deprived myself of the cover into which I could duck and make a recovery. So after a "successful" assault on the building, I fail to get the full Salvage value, and lose some local morale when Mason dies.

Should I be re-loading from the last save point, and trying it over and over until I can knock it down and continue grabbing salvage? Is there a way to stay put, or am I really just supposed to get the hell out of Dodge after blowing stuff up, guerrillla-style?

Oh, one other weird note: Finally stumbled onto a 3rd radio tag, unlocking a MOAB on the map. I get a radio mission to intercept a convoy; I'm in one of those civilian cars with mounted guns on the hood -- the best thing I've found for an initial assault on EDF convoys.

En route to the mission, I accidentally drive over the just-unlocked MOAB's location, turning my car into a Giant Fucking Bomb.  :o Help text reads: "Destroy the car to activate the MOAB" -- well, crap, what if I'm nearby when the car is damaged...? So I alter my plans, and instead leave the car in front of the approaching convoy with a bunch of remote charges on it. I wait until the first car passes near it, then KABLOOIE!

Only, no, not so much with the kablooie. I was pretty far away, worried it might be a sizable blast area, but it's not much bigger than a fuel tank's explosion. I am kind of disappointed.

I've been playing Team Anarchy going for my 10,000 XP. They need to have a Double XP weekend or something, like Gears and COD.

I got the High and Mighty achievement legit on my own too. I am that good. Felt good, I stuck it and saw him fly up and I was like BAM MOTHERFUCKER SUCK ON MY PUSSY

More griefing stories please.

Playing some KZ2 last weekend. I see six friendlies all cramming into a tight little hallway fighting against six or so enemies. I snuck around to the enemies end of the hallway by going the long route, where I saw both sides trying to bank grenades around corners. I soon as I saw the last grenade explode, I spring down the hallway past the enemies and around the corner right into my teammates and they cease fire. The enemies saw me and gave chase down the hallway, unbeknownst to my teammates. They must have thought that the hallway was clear after I busted through like that. As soon as I pass my teammates, I bust out of that hallway as quick as possible and am out of the line of fire to see red crosses appear as all of my teammates are mowed down by the pursuing enemies  8)

I almost never grief; I'm in it to play nicely, but sometimes people make it difficult. The only two times I can remember griefing is in Saints Row 1, which had an online design that must have encouraged it.

In Kill Tha' Pimp (VIP/Hitman) it was pretty common to find two jerks teamkilling everyone on the Pimp team until they're the only ones left. Most people just quit, leaving them to do whatever, but I hung out until I was made the Pimp, then I smacked their fucking asses all over the map until the other team came and found us, then I charged the enemy to intentionally make us lose. Wasting their time was gratifying.

The other time was Bling'd Out Ride or whatever it is where you get money, then take your car from HQ to a garage to upgrade it. The other team was really good at it. Several people on my team quit after a couple minutes, leaving me and one other guy to struggle. The other guy was whining about how bad I suck because I wasn't killing anybody -- I was going for the money stash instead. He kept moaning and moaning, and finally started shooting me. I waited until we had enough money to upgrade the car. He drove the car from the HQ to the garage. While he was out, I barricaded our own garage so he couldn't get back in. Dude sounded like he was going to cry. I'm standing there in front of the garage, waiting. Finally he decides to be polite: "Would you please move the cars away from the garage? Please?" I got what I wanted.

Demi, according to your guide, I should finish all the radio missions in each sector before liberating it. Is that right?

Can anyone confirm that the remaining guerrilla actions/missions (light green icons on the map) should be completed prior to liberating the sector? I mean, if I free Dust, do all those just go away and limit my ability to get Salvage from them and complete the overall mission count?

My guide is law, why would you question me?

chronovore

Ah, not so much questioning the graven-in-stone tablets of Radio Mission Completion Guide, just confirming that it's advisable to finish all of them before completing a sector, because it's difficult to know which ones you've missed and it's a pain to run around in each sector after the game, waiting for a radio mission to appear, maybe in the sector you're in, maybe not. Plus there's no place where the per-area radio missions are counted in Statistics, IIRC.

I'm just getting my ass handed to me on this one mission, and I want to go back to it later. The one that's killing my logic circuits is the mission that always spawns when I'm in Dust, but requires me in the Badlands. Maybe it's a Badlands mission. Two or three tanks in a convoy, plus the std. EDF jeeps. It's killed me several times, mainly because either (a) my Arc Welder shoots for about 0.5 seconds before deciding to mysteriously require reloading, or (b) the tanks just freakin' TAKE OFF down the road and split leaving me monkeying around with the EDF transports, which ends with the convoy reaching the base. So frustrating.

God. Fucking. Damnit. Same damned mission last night, and for once I was -not- halfway across the world, so I was able to intercept the Convoy all the way up in Oasis, prior to it entering the Badlands. I peppered the road with charges, and then blew up the first jeep. Flipped to a triple launching rocket launcher and took out 1 of 3 tanks, with two more taking off at top speed. Blew up another jeep, and some EDF support jerks that had shown up, barely made it to shocking another EDF jeep and hijacking it to get down the road. I notice as I'm racing to catch up with the trucks that I've left a Convoy jeep behind -- I figure I can mop up later, but the tanks can't wait.

JUST as I catch up to the tanks, which is well in advance of their target base, it gives me MISSION FAILED, claiming they'd reached the base. I think it mis-triggered by missing that remaining jeep and having too much space separating portions of the Convoy.

I'm going to dance a fucking jig when I finally clear this mission.

Multiplayer in this game is the shit.

Thank you 1943 for being a piece of garbage and not finding games.  If you had worked, I wouldn't have gone and rented Red Faction Guerilla and played multi for around 5 years today.

Back at $39.99 on amazon, bought a copy.

Finally got past my impossibly hard Radio Mission (Convoy/Destroy) after abandoning all previous strategies and instead letting my weapons work for me. From a (grassy) knoll (near the badlands sand repository) I launched 6 heat-seeking rockets in two groups of 3 at each tank; things blew up pretty nicely. This left a couple jeeps, which I tried to Arc-Weld into submission so I would have some mobile cover.

It was at this point that I discovered the flaw in all my previous failed Convoy/Destroy missions: You can't ride the cars which are marked for destruction. As I stood outside one with the Arc Welder and unloaded 100 charges into it, the "Use" icon never appeared. Previously, I'd had so much going on on-screen that I just assumed I was trying to enter the wrong vehicle, or that I'd not put as much electrocuting juice (for great justice) into it, but yesterday I had just a little more breathing space, and I still nearly managed to get killed before realizing the car was not going to let me enter.

So at least I understand now where a couple of my previous attempts to 'jack one of the tanks, then use it on the rest of the caravan went horribly, horribly wrong.  :-[

Demi, looking at your guide, I'm wondering if this isn't a Badlands mission instead of a Dust one. The thing starts in Oasis, ends in the Badlands at a base just near the restricted (shown in red on the map) high-value target bridge which connects Dust and the Badlands. But the mission itself only comes on the radio when I'm in Dust -- that's the key, right?

Been playing through Wrecking Crew modes for those Achievements, and it's actually pretty fun. The end of round countdown, waiting for the last points to pile up as physics take their toll, that's pretty suspenseful. Seems like rather than just destroying things outright (HELLO, THERMOBARIC ROCKETS, HOW ARE THE WIFE AND KIDS?) more points are awarded for letting physics do their thing, or structures damaging other structures. So it can pay off to partially destroy a lot of things and move on, gambling that they'll work for you in the endgame.

Cleared Dust in the singleplayer campaign, wondering if there's a fast way into the Oasis safehouse or if I'm just supposed to enjoy driving in and out of spirals.

Interview with Red Faction game designer; apparently the Saints Row 2 team and the Red Faction Guerrilla team were mostly separate. I'm wondering if the bugginess of the SR2 versus the largely solid nature of RF:G may be down to discrete technical competence instead of technology maturity. It also sounds like RF:G has been in production for 5 YEARS. Wow.

This game either doesn't have any form of team balancing, or it's broken. I enter a game with 3 guys with red tags, 2 guys with yellow tags and 2 guys with blue tags. Rather than wait for 8 players, it makes a game of 3 vs 4, and puts both blue tags on a team with a yellow tag, resulting in the other team of 3 red tags and a yellow tag.

They're pretty great. I like them, they're like action-puzzles. Where Portal was "how do I get over there?" the Red Faction question is "How can I knock this down?"

If Konami can release those virtual missions for Metal Gear on PS1, the demolition trials would be great DLC for Red Faction.
