OKay WTF
People keep thinking I have an accent, but I'm just ordinary white American. My grandpa and great grandparents were British, but that's about as close as I get to fresh off the boat. My friends will randomly bring up how I have "a funny way of speaking". I use to get mimicked/mocked by the lunch lady in highschool. I think it has only gotten worse since then.
People ask me if I'm european or some exchange student. I went to an office dinner party of an ex's and since I hardly spoke during the party(these shindigs were always fucking lame), everyone thought I was her foreign speaking beau.
Now today, I went to a Quaker meeting for the first time and introduced myself. After the meeting, three people in a row came up to ask me what country I was from. The first person asked if I was Flemish or Norwegian, the next if I was from England. And since I am of these heritages, answering the questions only confused them more. From now on, I'm just white california trash.
I don't know how to describe my particular manner of speaking, but according to my sister I sound like nick cage in Vampire's Kiss.
