Reading the RAGE thread on GAF reminded me of why I left: 80% of the posts are "graphics don't really look that good", "why r physics not realism?", "another post-apocalyptic city? yawn", "gameplay looks boring". It's just people complaining and complaining and complaining.

It's hip to not like anything and then surround yourself with other assholes who don't like anything also.

"another post-apocalyptic city? yawn"

this is just a dumb complaint [well, one of many]. The game world looks unique and interesting, it doesn't matter what the backdrop is.

I'm personally loving the look of it.

I mean, it's fine to have issues, but with GAF it's either "hypehypehype" or "complaincomplaincomplain". You hardly ever see a post that's "I like X and Y about this game, but am not entirely sold on Z. Cautiously optimistic."

That's because there is usually an instant group think opinion formed of any game based on which group of posters are doing the pimping or the hating over there.

The camera is so zoomed out initially it does kind of look like a toy car ala the RC-XD.  :lol

It does look stiff for some reason although maybe that's because of the way the person was playing.

Yeah, every time I watch videos of this game, I feel there's something odd about the animation. It does seem pretty stiff, especially after that intro with the sheriff talking that repeats the same 2-3 gestural animations as he talks  >:( Still looks hot though, I'll prob pick this up a few months after release. Gotta save my measly student pennies for NGP.

Want to mod Rage? Good. Speaking to PC Gamer at a recent press event, Id Creative Director Tim Willits revealed that the PC version of Rage will support modding and level design right out of the box. All you need to do, says Tim, is “Pull down the console, type ‘id studio’, then press enter. Then, bam, there’s all the tools we use.”

As for what you’ll be creating, that’s a little trickier; Id’s technology has moved on since you could fit 100′s of Doom levels on a CD. “Building levels from scratch is more difficult,” says Tim, “because we have a layer system in some of the levels. I can foresee somebody modding up Wellspring (a town in-game) and adding different characters, giving them different voice-over.” But if you’ve got the development skills to use it, the level editor will be there. “It’s built into the engine,” says Tim.

yeah. looks more like he's trying to show off the game thinking of himself as a camera, not actually play it as a gunguy in a game world.

I like that the trailer shows off some new areas, which look pretty awesome from what I can see of them.

Can't believe that this only about 10 weeks away from release.

The QuakeCon thread is a bit jumbled, so I'll post the new stuff here:

-There's a lot of questing to do. Little outposts scattered around will give you quests that send you into various hostile areas to fight raider dudes and win weapons, ammo, and ect.

-Graphics look amazing, in the big picture. There's a lot of detail, the art design is incredible, animations are fluid, everything feels large, and the textures are sharp, but...

-Texture pop-in is an issue and it's not something that's really going to be fixed. Spinning around will cause you to see some blurry textures that slowly sharpen, the length it takes depends on factors like PC vs. console, how fast you turn, and whether you've seen that particular texture before. It's noticeable if you're looking for it, but most of the time it's not really something that you're thinking about.

-Limited inventory management, loot doesn't weigh anything

-Some normal enemies are pretty tough, use energy shields that you have to get around or destroy, other enemies will hide behind them while they shoot at you

-Several different kinds of grenades and explosive items, also deployable turrets

-Buttery-smooth framerate, PC and console.

-Item-crafting

-Some areas have ziplines, so you can slide back down to the main world area after running through a "dungeon"

-Environments are highly detailed and each location, and each room, has a unique look to it

-Looks like you can have four different weapons at a time, with different types of ammo for each. Saw a pistol, submachine gun, shotgun, crossbow, and that spinny thing that cuts guys' heads off.

-Buggies and four-wheelers to ride around on

-Feels somewhere between Fallout 3 and Borderlands, minus the stiffness of the former and grinding of the latter

-I've not sure how large the game world is, but they've talked a lot about how the game really opens up after the first 3-4 hours

-Car-combat multiplayer looks kinda fun [racing with weapons and powerups and regular deathmatch arena], not amazing but it should be a nice little diversion from the main game

The only thing I've seen that hasn't met or exceeding my expectations is the issue with the texture loading and that's fairly minor.

Eurogamer: Everyone's messing around with Online Pass.

Tim Willits: We have the first-time buyer stuff with all the sewers. You've played Rage five times. Have you found any sewer hatches?

Eurogamer: I did, out in the Wasteland.

Tim Willits: If you bought the game new, that would be open for you. You still have to download it, but you don't have to pay for it. Those hatches are all over. Most people never find them. But as soon as you do, you're like, oh. And then you start to look for it. That's our first-time buyer incentive.

But as you can tell, most people never even see it. I can tell you, some people will buy Rage, download that, and still never set foot in those things. They just won't. I think that's fair. It's cool. It's outside the main path. We're not detracting from anything. But I know some consumers, when you can't avoid it, then you get a little touchy subject.

Doom 3's problems are mainly that the flashlight was a separate item and enemy spawnboxes, it's pretty cool other than that.

Yes,he admitted that on twitter...those are his words

This install shit has been active for years now,so if some supposedly top programer genius says...oh,I learned about this few days ago...the only thing that he deserves is lol

Again it doesn't surprise me,if you ever get in touch with some high level science people, you will see plenty of that :)

Multi-disc installs can suck my choad. Carmack not knowing about multi-disc installs doesn't say anything about his technical awareness, it speaks only to a lack of fine-level awareness about Microsoft's policies, not entirely stunning. This isn't about what the hardware can or cannot do, it's about what MS will let the hardware do.

Intellectually I think its okay but honestly all these online passes make me do is generally not consider buying certain games.

If the game is $60 new and I'm on the fence, t generally makes me second-guess if I want to buy used, or just wait for possible-maybe-eventual Platinum Hits version of the game.

Considering that I nearly got into a verbal altercation with the Gamestop shit-heel when I wanted to buy inFamous NEW and he kept pushing the $3 less USED version, I think the problem is at the retail level.
