I heard it was more of a return to Jackie Brown-type Tarantino, which is great. Maybe this will underperform like Jackie Brown, though. Then he'll do a bunch of overrated stuff.

Awesome Jew Violence. Nazi killing, nazi killing. I mean, whoever doesn't watch this movie does a disservice to all the brave men that have fought against the Third Reich so long ago.

It's your duty as a free man to watch this film.

QT trailers always suck. That's a commonly known fact. Also, the clips do not do this film justice. Just go to the theater, fucking buy that ticket. Come back, and dare say it's anything but a fucking masterpiece.

Ebert gave it four stars, bitches!

Quote from: Roger Ebert
Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds” is a big, bold, audacious war movie that will annoy some, startle others and demonstrate once again that he’s the real thing, a director of quixotic delights.

Been hearing nonstop praise for Christopher Waltz. Even Ebert jumps on the "Give Waltz an Oscar" bandwagon ("...Christoph Waltz deserves an Oscar nomination to go with his best actor award from Cannes").

Inglourious Basterds star Brad Pitt offered Tarantino hash to smoke out of a Coke can during filming.

The Pulp Fiction director revealed on the Howard Stern radio show that Pitt offered him the substance while on location in Europe.

"He had this big brick of hash, he was gonna give me some for the night," the 46-year-old director said.

"So he takes this brick of hash and whips out a knife like Jesse James and cuts this big sliver.

"The thing that was really funny was I said do you have a pipe to go with this? And he just handed me a Coke can.

Here's a link to Madsen being asked if he's in the movie

Quote
CH: Are you still attached to Inglorious Bastards?

MM: Well, that's a big mystery right now. You'd have to ask Quentin. I know Tim Roth and I were attached to it for two or three years. He told me what my character's name was, and we talked a lot about it. But seeing he has this deal with The Weinstein Company and now they seem to be going to the studios, I'm not really sure. I'm hopeful there'll be a role in there for me somewhere.

But from people who have viewed the movie, he isn't in it. There seems to be some shit about Eli Roth being put in instead of Madsen since he's recognizable.

Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz) was insanely talented and an incredible role. If this doesn't earn him an Oscar nomination then there's no justice.
Great, great film. Among the top three Quentin Tarantino films, maybe the greatest (though that would require re-viewings and months of digesting for a proper decision).

Jew Violence Porn?  Hardly at all.  Anyone that goes into this wanting violence porn of any ethnicity is going to be sorely bored and disappointed.

 :drudge WARNING!  WARNING :drudge

85-90% of this film is conversation.  Tense conversation, meaningful conversation......not Tarantinoesque pop culture banter.  These conversations are in French or German.  Yes you must read subtitles for most of the film.

Brad Pitt is not the star.  He probably has less lines and screentime than at least 4-5 other characters.  He's just the most charismatic of them all (kinda like Tom Cruise in Magnolia or something).

The first 90-120 minutes of the film is basically comprised of 3 or 4 different scenes, strung together with a few interstitial scenes.

Almost all the "cool stuff" in the film you have already seen in the trailer.  Except for the batshit crazy climax, everything has been explicitly shown or implied in previews and such.

The film will be remembered for its violence only because of how graphic the few instances of violence tend to be.  It's less about quantity and more about shocking you.

This movie is 152 minutes long.  2 hours, 32 minutes.  Don't drink any water before you go in.  It's really long and to some people it will feel even longer because there are a couple scenes that are at least 20-30 minutes of foreign dialogue.

With all that said, the good news is:

It's pretty easily Quentin Tarantino's best film.  I saw it in a packed house and people applauded at the end.  I'll probably go back to see it a second time in theatres, if I get the chance.

No one is gonna argue that apart from shooting dialogue scenes he himself scripted, Tarantino isn't too much of a director. He's talented though he has undelivered, I wouldn't argue that point.

But Res Dogs being his worst film?....Niccah you straight gone be crazy

How is it not his worst film?

I disagree that Tarantino isn't too much of a director - he has definitely improved over the years. But some of the shots in Reservoir Dogs make film students cringe. The dialogue isn't that great. And the acting is atrocious. It feels low budget and not in a good sense (where something is raw versus something that feels constrained by its budget).

... It's not very good. At all.

Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill, Death Proof and - likely - Inglorious Basterds are all better.

Tim Roth has never sucked at any acting gig at anytime in his career, ever.  Even when he played a evil, Marky-Mark hating chimp.

I very much liked the film, I'm so very looking forward to the Blu-Ray so I cans sees it again, but I must admit that its even more of an acquired taste then QT's last film.  When its deliberately wierd, its pretty damn weird, but its quite good on the whole and is the closest he's come to recreating Pulp Fiction, if in template and tone if not in plot.

I likes it a lot, but I can understand the position of any grumbler.

I liked this movie a lot.  I've never really thought of Tarintino in terms of his ability to build tension (should I have?), but this whole movie is predicated on the slow-boil, and I thought it worked really well with "Quentin style" dialogue.

Forget District 9. Forget Stark Trek. Forget Harry Potter, if you haven't already. Inglorious Basterds is THE move of the summer. It's got some truly intense drama, drama that doesn't merely rely on over-the-top violence to get the viewer interested. It's a slow movie, but rarely does it feel boring, which is a major accomplishment in an era where it seems like audiences have trouble paying attention if there isn't an explosion or robot peeing on someone every ten seconds. It's also got humor, that Tarantino brand of humor that gets you to laugh at people being ripped apart by machine guns, because, hey, they totally deserve it. It's suspensful, it's funny, it's tragic. It's got Nazi killin' and, at the end of the day, isn't that what matters most?

Go see this movie, as soon as possible.

Best movie I've seen all year so far and will probably be film of the year at the end since Scorsese's Shutter Island looks kinda generic from the trailer.

I'm not a huge Tarantino fan and I dislike the man immensely as a human being, but sometimes he really does write fantastic scripts.  I still think Jackie Brown is his best work, but Basterds may just be #2.  Can't wait to see it again down the line.
