The Redskins cut half their team and look hesitant to sign any big name free agents. What the fuck is going on.

The Bears have become the new Redskins, they're throwing wads of money at everybody. $40 Million guaranteed for Peppers, I'm sure that's gonna work out!

Doesn't the cap lower next year? Maybe the front office is thinking about that, and opting to build through the draft

I don't really blame them, they didn't really cut any of the good defensive players as far as I can tell.  I think that Shanahan and Allen kinda convinced Danny Boy that they're gonna suck no matter what next year.

It's definitely kind of unusual around these parts. I can't really think of a free agency where we didn't reel in at least one big name. Oh well, it's probably for the best.

I was kind of surprised they cut Cornelius Griffin, but with them moving to the 3-4, I can understand that.

Now if only they can trade Carlos Rogers.

Not too surprised.  Snyder hasn't been meddling in personnel decisions the last few years, despite his reputation, and you've got a new management team that's looking to clear away the Cerrato stink.

Report: Tim Tebow will have workout with Redskins

On a day the Redskins locked up one quarterback, they're apparently preparing to work out another. The Redskins are one of five teams that have scheduled individual workouts with draft prospect Tim Tebow, according to the Sporting News.

There's no way they draft him. He's clearly jumped to the first or second round, but I really don't see anyone outside of Jacksonville taking him in the first round. I like the idea of him going somewhere like Indy to learn behind a great QB. The pressure put on him by say Jacksonville would certainly lead to him flaming out. He needs a couple years at least.

Anyway, Suh or McCoy lets gooo :rock

Almost the whole NFL LIVE show last night was about the unaborted boy. smh
Fuckers were jerking each other off over how he changed the way he holds the ball and his quicker delivery.  ::)

He's going to suck as an NFL QB! Quit trying to sell him as a project with "huge upside". I'm not buying it!

It's ridiculous to think that Tebow won't revert back to his natural throwing style with a defense rushing towards his ass. The analysts are crazy. I think he could be a good QB, but it won't be right away. He'll have to be developed

Tebow would have been lucky to be a backup on any other college team. He always had studs around him on offense and a perennial top 5 defense.

Yea, and of course Chris Leek or whatever his name was (qb before tebow). That's definitely a fact. But Tebow is a damn good athlete, and performed well at the combine. His records and achievements speak for themselves. I don't know if he'll translate well to the NFL, but to be fair a lot of that is due to the way he's been groomed, mechanics wise.

It won't translate well to the NFL or even the CFL, let alone the NBA!

His mechanics are only part of the problem.

Who knows (or cares) what he does in the NFL.  I can tell you from watching, I hated how good of a QB Tebow was in 2008 in Atlanta (SEC Championship game).  Single handily won that game for Florida.

Which made beating him convincingly in 2009 incredibly satisfying.

Brady Quinn stats suck but he's also been on a pretty fucking shitty team.  It'll be curious to see if he'll finally be able to produce now that he's got a little more talent around him.

I'm not saying they're similar at all but I remember Drew Brees' first several years with the San Diego Chargers as being nothing short of a disaster and was the reason they drafted Phillips Rivers (or Eli Manning lol).  Things can turn around.

Keep in mind that the Broncos are also getting rid of their best WR and pass catching TE.  Doubt Quinn's stats improve markedly if at all.

ESPN insider has an article about the Skins taking Tebow, but I'm not a subscriber. Our local sports station has mentioned their sources confirming the Skins are definitely thinking about this.

shhheeeeiit. I just can't imagine them pulling the trigger. There has to be a safer, low pick QB to take.

or maybe the mere idea of Mr. Tebow going to Washington makes me want to hurl.

Here's what the ESPN thing says, if you're curious -

Quote
With the speculation that the Rams might be taking Sam Bradford No. 1 overall in April, the other team that thinks quite highly of him risks missing out. We've been hearing for a while now that the Redskins value Bradford as a potential franchise quarterback, and that he would not get past their spot in the first round if he lasted that far.

So what happens if the Skins are faced with a draft board with Bradford's name crossed off? It could come down to Notre Dame's Jimmy Clausen versus Oklahoma State OT Russell Okung. Below, ESPN NFC East blogger Matt Mosley weighs the options.

UPDATE: The Redskins may be developing their backup plan if Bradford is off the board (as expected) by the time they pick at No. 4. Coach Mike Shanahan and GM Bruce Allen are part of a team that is scheduled to visit with Tim Tebow in Gainesville, presumably to decide whether they want to pick him in April's draft (possibly in the second round) in the event they draft neither Bradford nor Clausen. If they were to take Tebow, he'd become the second former Gators quarterback on the roster behind Rex Grossman (and we thought the Steve Spurrier era was over in Washington).

Oh god no

Quote from: Mike Shanahan
"I like everything about [Tebow]," Shanahan said. "If you can't root for a guy like Tebow, man, you don't like your [own] kids."
Shanahan visited the Gainesville, Fla., campus on Saturday, along with Washington general manager Bruce Allen and Scott Campbell, the team's director of player personnel. Speaking with reporters for the first time since seeing Tebow workout, Shanahan had a fairly glowing review this morning.

"Here's a guy to me that brings everything to the table. He'll interview with 30 people, work out for everybody [and] when you're with him, he's just an off-the-chart guy," Shanahan said. "Those guys don't come around all the time. Especially with the success that he's had."

"I just think he's something that's very special," he added.

"I think what everybody was looking at from the Senior Bowl was where he dropped the ball below his waist," Shanahan said. "I think he's doing a great job keeping the ball up high, and I think everybody saw that at his workout."

"When Phillip Rivers came out, everybody said he didn't have the perfect throwing motion, the perfect release. At least in my opinion, [Rivers'] is one of the best in the business; he's in the top three or four," he said. "Sometimes you've got to be able to play the game. You can dissect everybody's game, but the bottom line is how he plays and how he gets it done."

"You just never know," he added.

As we've mentioned once or twice, quarterback Tim Tebow's habit of openly expressing his religious beliefs could potentially rub folks the wrong way, especially in a locker room of grown men who choose to keep their beliefs to themselves, who don't share his beliefs at all, and/or who only want to hear "God bless" after they have sneezed.

We're told that Tebow already has gotten a taste of the resistance he might face at the next level.

At the Scouting Combine, the Wonderlic exam is administered to players in groups. The 12-minute test is preceded by some brief instructions and comments from the person administering the test.

Per a league source, after the person administering the test to Tebow's group had finished, Tebow made a request that the players bow their heads in prayer before taking the 50-question exam.

Said one of the other players in response: "Shut the f--k up." Others players in the room then laughed.

We're not passing judgment on this one; we're just passing along what we've heard. And it illustrates the type of challenges that could be faced by the team that drafts Tebow.

That said, some teams might embrace those challenges. The final decision will depend largely on the composition of the team, and the personalities of the coach, the G.M., and the owner.
