Dude, you think a black dude is gonna be the protagonist in a jrpg?  Whatever, he's a supporting character.  Lighting is the main character, and she seems suitably emo.

Whatever, I prefer fantasy settings for rpgs and spiky haired whiny protagonists are ok for like every 3rd jrpg, but EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. is a bit much don'tchathink?
Well the one time a mainline Final Fantasy didn't have a emo lead we got Vaan, so....  :-\

Well, I think the futuristic settings set FF games apart from every other rpg that tries to fantasy.

Tidus was kind of emo, and while Vaan wasn't emo he was basically a chick so it canceled out any good will for the lack of emo-osity.

Basically, Square needs some bald space marines as main characters.

Huh, seriously?
I though he was pretty cheerful.

Not as moody as the mega emo's Cloud and especially Squall.

Yeah, but when it's EVERY FREAKING GAME it gets old.  That's what made IX such a refreshing change of pace- well that and the whole lack of the emo mc.

But whatever, the game looks pretty and I'll buy it when it hits $40.  Until then I'll mercilessly troll it, just because that's what I do.

Apparently the main character in FF13 is like a bald space marine except she's not bald

so that definitely sounds like a step in the right direction.

Of all the FFs, the only ones that I'd classify as having futuristic settings are 7, 8, and 13. Most of the others are fantasy with a bit of steampunk mixed in.

Tidus' father is fucking Sin. I'd also become emo if I talked about him.

Play Dissidia. Onion Knight, Zidane and Tidus are the only cheerful characters in the game. The rest are all emo's.

Even 7 isn't futuristic. The only futuristic locations are Midgar and Junon.

8's not futuristic at all aside from Esthar.

Either way, pretty much every FF ever has sci-fi elements.

7's a bit of a mix of modern day, fantasy, and futuristic elements.

7 also had a SPACE SHIP.

To one degree or another, though most dig into steampunk more often than things from the future or modern times.

Transformer summons are awesome.  but I'm pretty leery about the battle system -- no party control or resource management, and no movement control either?   :wtf

7 has a spaceship but it is by no means futuristic.

They had multiple space ship launch failures. It's not like they were cruisin' in space.

Didn't they say it'd have party control in the final game?

I get the feeling that this game will be like most much delayed console exclusives and end up sucking/being horribly disappointing. Except that in this case, its not console exclusive anymore so it'll be left wide open for all the criticism.

the way the battle system looked it was impossible for full party control, unless you had 6 arms or something.

I don't know why people thought full party control was in.
