My skillset (.NET programming) and my local market (Greensboro/Winston-Salem/High Point, NC) just don't mix right now. Go to dice.com (IT recruiting site) and plug in C# and my zip, and you'll literally get 1 hit today. One. Uno. Even when the economy is great, this local market just isn't the best. Right now, it's just laughable, and this is actually the worst it has been during this current downturn. A couple of weeks ago, there were 6!

Charlotte (~80 miles away) is coming back, it seems. A month or two ago, there were 20-25 listings on a given day. At last check today, they were back up to 56. While Charlotte is clearly a much bigger city than any of the three main cities in my metro, the overall urban populations aren't
too far off. Certainly not to the degree of 56 openings to 1. Charlotte is just a better market for this type of work, has been for years.
I haven't quite gotten to the point where I'll move. But with my present job, it's looking awfully tempting...
