see?  the age comment was just a trap.  you kids haven't even shown your excitement. Shown any RESPECT. you're more worried about your age.  It was a test and you failed.  Don't waste tickets for yourself or that "quirky" girl that you're trying to impress with your knowledge of pre-Slanted Pavement eps.  Downloading Slay Tracks off the internet doesn't count. And if you manage to get in, don't scream for Summer Babe or I'll cut your balls off. In fact, don't scream for any first songs on any of the albums.

I saw them five times while they were together. Never with Gary Young though  :-\

Has there ever been an official release of the RAWKIN' version of "The Hexx"?

on the Brighten the Corners re-issue, I think.  I actually haven't heard the new re-issues past Crooked Rain yet...

edit: that's awesome.  I had tickets to see them once in Chicago, but couldn't make it cause I got stomach flu...and all other times they toured, I wasn't able to go because they were at 18 or older shows.

Tried making up for it with the Jicks, but...as much as I love them, which is a lot, they don't have the same effect on me.

Went to see Pavement around 1994 and, while waiting in line, actually got to meet and hang out with Mark Ibold's grandparents....they had come all the way from wherever to see him play....kinds funny to two very old people hanging out at a show with some many teens and twenty somethings.

Yup, Sirius and XM combined back in March or so...

Actually, the first time I heard a Pavement song was recently on XMU, even though I think I've heard the name waaaaay back.

Okay Pavement nooblets, here's your chance to get in on "the ground floor" before the Pitchfork effect turns every internet hipster into a fucking Pavement genius for life.

j.k.  I just feel like posting pavement songs.

The song that hooks everyone:

Another good one from Slanted and Enchanted:

Secret tip: Pavement's b-sides are frequently better than the songs on the albums:

Watery and Domestic is an EP
that came out after Slanted and Enchanted and before Crooked Rain, so it still has their first drummer, Gary.  He's a lot more aggressive and probably more talented than Steve West:

They even have a song about how bad Steve West is at drumming (another amazing B-side):

"Cut Your Hair" was the closest they came to a number 1 single. Contrary to what happens with other bands, it's not really a hated song by "true" fans, because it's awesome:

One of the stand outs on Crooked Rain is an almost country song called Range Life.  Which is weird because everything before this album was all noisy and experimental:

Silence kit is good too:

and here's where I get lazy and stop.

I'm very picky about my bands.  Hate black metal and like only certain death metal bands (i.e. ones that don't suck balls).   :-*

Also, Blind Guardian does rule! :rock  Never listened to much Iced Earth but Richard Christy from Death was in Iced Earth so, :rock

Just noticed your last line, I listen to a lot of non-metal music.  :smug

Pavement EPs/singles are awesome!

Westing is a lot noisier than Slanted and probably falls under the experimental noise genre.  There are a bunch of full songs interspersed with straight noise tracks.  Some of it's harder to listen to, but the actual songs make it very worth it.

Watery/Domestic is a must-have.  it's just 4 amazing songs.  I think they're all on the Slanted reissue though.  Pretty much all of their B-side tracks have been included in the album reissues, so it might be more economical to just buy those instead of the eps/singles (and you get remastered versions of the albums along with it, so it kinda justifies replacing the old CDs.)

http://www.matadorrecords.com/matablog/2009/09/17/pavement-coming-to-a-town-near-you-if-you-live-near-a-big-town-in-2010/
Quote
(photography by Gail Butensky)

Ever since that fateful night in late 1999 when Pavement left the public eye with a final show at London’s Brixton Academy, we’ve often fantasized about the day when we could finally tell the world “yes, Brooklyn Vegan scooped us, Pavement are back.”

After years of speculation, the most important American band of the 1990’s is returning to the stage, with the lineup of Mark Ibold, Scott “Spiral Stairs” Kannberg, Stephen Malkmus, Bob Nastanovich and Steve West reuniting for dates around the world in 2010.  Please be advised this tour is not a prelude to additional jaunts and/or a permanent reunion.

Described in their own Wikipedia entry as having experienced “moderate commercial success”, Pavement’s catalog for the Matador, Domino, Drag City and Treble Kicker imprints has come to define in the eyes of many the blueprint for independent rock over the past generation. In spite of this, the records are still pretty fantastic, and we’re fully prepared to remind you of such with a details-to-be-determined compilation album planned for release sometime in 2010.

The first show announced is a New York performance on September 21, 2010 at Rumsey Playfield in Central Park. Things worked out really well when Diana Ross played Central Park in 1983, and we have no reason to suspect Pavement’s return to the live arena won’t generate similar headlines.

A pre-sale begins at 10:00 AM EDT on Friday, September 18, 2009 (tomorrow).  The password for the pre-sale is ZOWEE .  The general on-sale is slated for 10:00 AM EDT on Friday, September 25, 2009.  Please note that tickets will be available without surcharges from the Nokia Theatre box office in Times Square and from Earwax at 218 Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg.

The new Spiral Stairs LP/CD/digital album ‘The Real Feel’, Scott Kannberg’s first album under the S.S. nom de plume after two Preston School Of Industry long-players, is available October 20, 2009.  Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks are playing 4 Australian shows later this month, and plan to begin recording their 5th album in the near future
