I realize they didn't have a lot of time to make this
Why? What reason was there to rush this?

I posted this on GAF, but it looks like there is a separate mode that lets you play the story missions for karma called "chapter challenge." I'm not entirely sure since I don't have it unlocked, but there's some good news, possibly.

The new weapon upgrade system is indeed distinguished mentally-challenged.

PS. If anyone wants to add me for co-op or leaderboards or whatever, my PSN is iconoclast422. I'm just going to be playing single player for the next few days until I finish Master Ninja though.

actually I have no good answer for that

iconoclast-- you're right, but man, team ninja and their fucking unlockables.  have to beat the game 5 times before playing it the way you want and they always lock their saves :lol

i thought I read somewhere that your upgrades carry over to other difficulties too but I may have misread.  if they balanced it for that, that could be great

I'd skip Sigma 1 for now. I mean, you've played the game before, right?

Time to get with the new hotness.

Nope!  Never played any of the Ninja Gaidens before.  Sigma and DS are sitting in my backlog.

You never played Ninja Gaiden on the Xbox?

 :o

The only Ninja Gaiden I played was the original arcade version.   :lol  I never played the NES games either!  I decided to start this and go back to Sigma 1 afterwards.  Sigma 2 definitely plays better and the controls are bit smoother, but they definitely made it easier compared to the original.

The gore is weird.  It's like they said "let's keep the limb and head dismemberment, but that blood's gotta go!"  Makes no sense.

I tried one of the missions online, and it was a little laggy at the start.  The frame rate is definitely lower as well.  Kind of disappointing.

I have never played one either, so I picked up Sigma 2 today because it's on the superior console. I'm going to delve into it tommorow and i'll let you inferior console owners know how great this game is.

I still can't believe you never played NG on the old Xbox. That's one of my favorite games from last gen!

The over the top gore is gone, but there is still a lot of blood. I noticed a lot of the red stuff flying around while using the talons, and after wiping out a room of baddies, Ryu wiped them clean, leaving even more of the good old red goo on the floor.

It's that dreaded Cero Z. They probably didn't care too much for NG2 because it was going to sell like shit in Japan regardless (being 360 exclusive and all that). Japan doesn't get decapitations either, the head just stays on while purple mists shoots out of the guys neck  :lol

What really bummed me out, is at the start of the Venice chapter Ryu no longer cuts the werewolf in half. He just slashes him and he gently falls backwards. :'( :'(

I was about to ask about that, distant.

One of the coolest things about NG2 is that you murder 10000 guys in a room, only to leave it a bloody mess, and after a while Ryu shakes the blood off his weapon before putting it away.

If there's a lack of blood, I didn't see the point in keeping that fucking amazing detail.

I'm warming up to this more.. on venice now and yeah, the werewolf just kinda gets knocked out :lol

momiji's cool. tit bounce on little boy = extradition to U.S.

played some team missions online and yeah, the framerate is low and there's some noticeable, though not horrible input delay.

The wolves don't chuck body parts anymore.  also, there is a ton of open space in venice-- no water fights (thankfully), but a lot less wolves too.  Each chapter seems to start off easier, then gradually introduces more enemies and tougher encounters.

huh?  I must've missed the waterwolves on my other playthroughs of ng2.  :P  Werewolves that walk on water would be the deadliest shit ever.

I'm talking about those fucking squid things and the fights with the snake things with boobs.  But I only went through that first canal part, so maybe there's another fight in that big open space later on in the chapter.

I don't remember dude. It was those things with the spikes and tits or something.

Anyways, that shit was awesome.

The parts with the gun sucked, because you had to stop and aim at them.

But the actual water battles, where you had to keep tapping x button (was that it?) to keep running on top of water while fighting at the same time gave me a real thrill.

Chapter 5 is my overall favorite chapter in the game.

I"m actually glad NGS2 has chapter select because I wanted to play that chapter over and over.

The first part of chapter 9, or the airship (which chapter was that again?) were my favorite.  Overall the airship, but the first part of Chapter 9 was the greatest moments in the games.  After that it was that shitty horrible worm boss.

ok, it was Chapter 7.  First part of chapter 9 and chapter 7.  Those were so good.  Chapter 7 even had a Genshin fight  :heartbeat

and the reason water was so awesome was because it was the best counter to the missile spamming enemies.  They fire, stop running and submerge, then rise up and go for some quick strikes.   That first part in chapter 9 is so, so good.  That game abused you so much with terrible bosses and shitty levels until you reach those good sections, and they're really damn good.  I think that Moscow level was Chapter 8 and it was the absolute worst.  Or things like finishing off Chapter 7 with that armadillo insta-kill boss.

Chapter 8 (Submit or Die) in NG2 was the snow/clocktower/Zedonius level. Chapter 9 was the swamp/tunnel worm level. Chapter 9 was god awful. You actually liked that endless spam of rockets?

I just got done with Submit or Die (Chapter 10 in NGS2) and it's basically the same thing with a lot less enemies (as usual). Zedonius seemed a lot easier, but I'm used to fighting him on Mentor/Master Ninja so I'm not entirely sure.

And yeah, there's no more spear gun (so far anyway), no water fights (in Venice at least) and no jellyfish (in Venice at least). All good changes, IMO.

Yeah, the NA version has decaps.

Just got to the first checkpoint in Chapter 14 (Ch.11 in NG2), gonna call it quits for tonight. They did a decent job improving Chapter 9 I think, but the new dragon boss is absolutely terrible. Still no jellyfish, so I think it's safe to say that they got cut along with the spear gun.

Chapter 9 swamp was awesome.  The "endless spam of rockets" weren't a problem because of the water, and it all worked well.  Thinking about it more, part of the reason I liked that swamp section so much was because it was right after Chapter 8, which was an endless spam of rockets you could barely avoid and was just awful.  It was still an awesome sequence regardless and I'll stick to that.  And no I didn't like that piece of shit worm thing.  I mentioned in the other post that it was awful.  Only the swamp section in Chapter 9 was good.  The best chapter from start to finish, other than Chapter 7, was Chapter 11.

Actually, I specifically remember those series of chapters because I posted that every other level was great while the others sucked.  Chapter 9 had the awesome start and bad later section, but Chapter 11 redeemed that.

Yeah, the NA version has decaps.

Have they removed many of the bosses? was the worm still there? the giant silver thing from one of the earlier sections?

I don't remember the whole chapter, but the part where you do some platforming on the clock's gears is one of the few good platforming moments in the series.

Every boss is still intact except for the Ch.9 tunnel worm; the entire SECTION got removed. Guess I should spoiler tag this...
spoiler (click to show/hide)
Gigadeath (Ch.3 boss) got tweaked a litte, it's easier to dodge his ghost fish attack and regular attacks don't damage him any more as far as I can tell. The giant bone monster is still as terrible as ever. The water dragon got changed a bit - the platform you fight him on is bigger so you have more room to dodge his attacks. He doesn't jump into the air and dive back into the water any more (at least he didn't when I fought him) and he sends ghost fish after you once in a while. I'd say he's improved a little. Genshin can also shoot a Dark Void at you now that's pretty easy to dodge.
[close]

And out of all the new bosses I've fought so far, the Tengu twins are the best. They're actually a pretty decent fight, but they're really weak. It seems most bosses are really weak actually; I killed the Rasetsu in Ch.10 in less than 10 seconds. But this is only on Warrior.

appears that genshin can be izuna dropped.

poor genshin.

Do you have to 1st person aim or does the auto aim bow do everything?  If you don't have to stand still and aim anymore than I guess that's an improvement, though bow bosses still suck and should have been removed.

At least the worm tunnel is gone.  That part was awful.

Just Izuna'd Genshin. He blocks it like 99% of the time, seems more like a novelty. I nearly died trying to do  it over and over...

Anyway, you get a new weapon in Sigma 2 - the Howling Cannon. It's basically just a replacement for the bow UT for boss fights. As soon as you press L2 it locks onto whatever target is in sight, so no manual aiming is necessary, most of the time. You can walk around with the left stick while you're aiming and shooting with the bow as well, so that at least makes rocket-dodging less annoying.

it'll usually auto aim, but sometimes if you're not lined up right, it won't.  If the enemy is in front of you and you're facing left and hit the shoot button, you won't turn to face him and shoot.

The bosses who were handled with the bow are still vulnerable, you just can't kill them with 4 charged shots.  You whittle them down while dodging their attacks, which I think is cool.

Also, the Lunar combo square, square, triangle (X,X,Y on 360) is severely nerfed.  The last attack used to do literally 25%+ damage to a lot of bosses.

Looks like the scythe is severely nerfed too. YYY and jump+XY used to do distinguished mentally-challenged amounts of damage to bosses, now you're better off using another weapon (I use the Dragon Sword XXY->Y for every boss pretty much). Not to mention Volf just blocked 9/10 of my scythe attacks.

Anyway, the double armadillo fight has been replaced (thank god) with

Just tried the demo this morning.  Is it just me or does NG2 Sigma have less enemies than the original?  Also, Sigma seems to have a more stable framerate but is also more prone to slowdown when multiple enemies show up on screen.

Graphics are little bit crisper but overall not much different from the original NG2.  The difficulty does seem to have been reduced but that could just be due to my prior experience with NG2.  The speed has also been toned down a little but it can be adjusted to quickly.  Overall, Sigma seems like a solid port but it's not worth the time or $60 for those who've already played NG2.

I've finished both NGs and the DS one and I have no idea what the plot of any of the games are.  Itagaki + story-telling =  :lol

So far what i've taken from it, is there's a girl in the village with a nice set of tits, a CIA agent with a nice set of tits, some tits hiding in the tree's, some girl with metal tits, a bunch of weird ass ninjas, and a ninja whose likely a racist dressed in all black who doesn't even cop a feel.
