The 458 Italia was revealed at a point where Turn 10 couldn't get it on the disc without a delay.  :meeble

And the GT5 Ferrari clip makes the Forza 3 one look very amateurish.

nah, PGR4

I played about 2 hours of Forza 2 and it was very much Borza.  Same for GT5:P; Sims this gen are so dull :\

I'll probably be getting Need for Speed Shift over both Borza and Gran Borismo.  Shift will have automatic tuning for those that don't want to mess around with that kinda stuff.

The thing I really hated about GT on the PS2 was that it was too focused on the tuning elements.  I don't give a crap about tuning.  I just wanna drive.

They called it "The Real Driving Simulator" not the "The Real Tuning Simulator".

Too much tuning
Too much of a start slowww and repeat tracks for hours to advance curve
Too much BORING EMPTY TRACKS; my main issue with Forza & GT lately.  I used to love GT when it was all about crazy city tracks with jumps and drives through fantasy forests or Italian seasides.  I want interesting locations to drive around in racing games.  This strong focus on ACTUAL RACE TRACKS which I guess appeases real racing fans just means incredibly dull scenery.  I don't even like The Ring much in PGR.  Also I play racing games to indulge in my love for graphics.  Yet I don't car about the graphics on the car.  I just want to see amazing tracks.  But Forza/GT focus all their polys and effects on the damn cars  :maf

I played a fair bit of Forza 1 but found Forza 2 insanely dull.  I'm hoping Forza 3 does something  to rectify this with some exciting tracks.  The graphics looking far, far, far better are good start at least.

yeah, the GT5 one looks incredible.

The one thing the GT series has over Forza is much better presentation and style.  How much that matters when Forza has lead in terms of gameplay for the past two games is negligible.

I don't think sim racers are for you.  I enjoy a good arcade racer too, but the appeal of sims are the cars themselves.  You can take any car and tune it to hell so it fits your driving style perfectly.  You get the chance to race awesome supercars, with the appeal of it handling very close to the real life counterpart.  The cars look beautiful, the tracks exist just so you have something to drive them on.  Real-life tracks give you the full experience, and they're challenging enough anyway, having them replace the scenery with unnecessary fluff and distractions adds nothing to it, you shouldn't even be paying attention to what's going on on the sides of the road.

I can understand why people would dislike sim racers, but complaining that the cars look too beautiful instead of the tracks is kind of ignorant, along with questioning the idea of tuning and mastering a certain track before advancing.  That's the whole appeal of the genre, if you want to play something that's easier to get into and looks pretty, play Grid or PGR.

Not to say that there's no reason to not have beautiful racing locales, but Forza 3 isn't slacking too much with that...

it’s interesting to compare it with Forza’s tribute. While Polyphony’s is artistic, zooms right in on tiny details like the individual bulbs on the tail lights, Forza’s is all about action and drama, and lacks the subtletly of the Gran Turismo effort. But that’s Forza for you – a good game but an arcade game, where GT5 will be more a simulation.

Bah, GT may have more overall polish, but Forza just plays better.  Going back to GT after a Forza session is pretty tough, haha.  Forza is definitely a sim, but you can adjust the playing style so that someone who doesn't like sims can get into the game.

yeah, I'm amazed that people would think GT games are more sims than Forza games.  Forza games certainly aren't the best if you want a true sim, but Gran Turismo games are about playing the Gran Turismo brand of driving, which happens to be some off world that has freaky physics.  Forza games have cars that handle like cars, and it was true for Forza 1 and 2, and I'm gonna play the Forza 3 demo now, but unless they went backwards, I'm sure it will be the same.  Only thing GT games really have over Forza is presentation.  At least now Forza looks good.

Hey, you know whats batter than all these games combined? Walking ad NOT driving cause there's too much fucking traffic.

ok, Forza 3 is freaking great.  Totally buying this.

I was playing GT5p yesterday and it's night and day how much better Forza 3 plays.  But GT5p still kinda looks better, especially the cockpit view.  The cockpit view in Forza 3 is actually usable opposed to games like PGR or Shift.

Jeremy reviewed GT4 in the past, and there was a segment where he compared his lap time on laguna seca in real life to the GT4 one; I forgot what the result was.  James May pretty much trashes video games when given the chance, so yeah.

I think his lap time was much higher since you could do things in the game that you couldn't do in real life.

His game lap was like 1:40 and his real world time was about 2:00.  He says that the reason is that in reality, you feel a bunch of lateral, negative, and positive G's and you pussy out and brake too soon and everything.  He said that the time wasn't impossible if you were a professional race driver with no fear.

The point of that segment was I guess more about how racing sims feel versus how accurate they control.

BTW, how did polyphony even get the top gear test track?  Were they the first to think to just ask BBC for it or did they actually pay for exclusivity?

It looks nicer than GT5 (and cleaner) and they've made it more accessible to non-simmies, but is that the only track in the demo?  It's ridiculously short and more of a cocktease than a real track.

http://www.destructoid.com/tgs-09-forza-motorsport-3-vs-gran-turismo-5-149770.phtml

Visuals:
Winner: Forza Motorsport 3
While both games look great on the track, Forza's demo featured a polish that Gran Turismo 5's lacked.

Control:
Winner: Forza Motorsport 3
Solely judging from the two on-floor demos,  both of which used adjustable racing seats and steering wheel rigs, Forza 3's control won the race.

Game play:
Winner:  Forza Motorsport 3

Forza's gameplay was more enjoyable and approachable. It may be a bit more simple than that of GT5, but it still provides ample challenge for white knuckle racing.

Overall:
I'm a big Gran Turismo fan, so it was a bit of a surprise to me that the Forza Motorsport 3 demo did more for me.

Interesting comparison from the same site that railed against Sony fanboys.  Teh biased?

Kinda surprised to see Forza win in the control area since it looks like the Forza setups were just using the ol' crappy official 360 wheels.  I didn't see the GT setups but I"d be really surprised if they were using anything other than top-end Logitech wheels.

Just from my own experience, Forza 3 trounces GT5(p) in all of those except visuals.  GT5(p...including the p because it's hard to imagine that GT5 will be a step back) still looks more realistic than Forza 3, but Forza 3 is actually a good looking game now, so whatever.

Are there more tracks in the demo though?  It's hard to judge the graphics with such a little track beyond "hey it has a nice skybox".  The IQ is awesome, but I want more tracks with more geometry and interesting layouts.  The first GT5p demo in the mountains was a much more interesting track to drive even if the IQ was shit.

Judging from reviews and impressions, this does sound like the best console "sim" racer ever.

you can play the game using the first disk only.  Second disk contains 100 more cars and 3 more tracks.  If you have a hard drive, there is an in-game option in disk 1 that lets you install disk 2 to the 360.  A better comparison would be Rock Band content working in Rock Band 2.

So if someone wants to drive one car and the other person another, if both cars are on seperate discs you're screwed?

I guess it's not too big of an issue if you can pick and choose.  Altogether, it's about 2 GB of content on disk 2.
