I beat it the first time using just sword and guns, no accessories. The accessories help but the only ones you really want are Selene's Light and Evil Rosary.

Moon of Maha Kala is just DMC4's Royal Guard and I could never use that any good.

The motorcycle stage is not bad, it's just too long. I love the missile stage though, probably because I played Space Harrier for the first time last month.

After that cheesy fight in the prologue, hard is fun as hell. Much better than normal the tutorial.

The sword was what I used 99% of the time.  So much so that going back and using anything else feels weird.

I feel the same way.  Both of those vehicle stages controlled well, so other than length I don't see anything to complain about.  Fun little breaks from the fighting action.

So I just unlocked

Hidden for Drewsy.
spoiler (click to show/hide)
Jeanne. There's two ways to but I decided for the easy way, spend a million halos in Chapter 2. The normal way is too taxing for me. You can keep your halos if after you unlock her quit to chapter select, then quit to title screen. Start a new game with Jeanne and the save after then opening mission. Then go back to your Bayo save and load the saved file; your million halos will still be there and you will have your Jeanne save safe and sound in another slot. /copypasta

I updated the first post for the easy way. Half way with Alfheims, angel may cry  :pimp

Yeah, I went through Hard pretty quick actually. The end screen said 4 hours 35 minutes I think, with 80 minutes spent on chapter 5 :lol (alfheim + afk). The Dodge Offset + Katana/Durga combo dominates everything. Went up to chapter 5 in infinite climax and I think I'm done for today. Still missed a bunch of hearts and pearls on hard though, got tired of reading guides to find all that junk.

The motorcycle and missile missions would be cool if they were like 5 times shorter. As it is they are just a chore to play through.

There's way too much trash littered throughout the game like that and it really brings it down. Everything about the combat is superb... it's just everything else that is abysmal.

Chapter 8 is perhaps the worst level I've ever seen in an action game.

HEY LET'S FIGHT 3 BLITZ'S THAT DISABLE WITCH TIME WHILE HAVING CARS SMASH YOU FROM OFF SCREEN LOL!

If an IS gets stuck in you from off screen in NG2 you can easily dodge it with the invincible frames with the dash or any number of ways. That section is more like playing the street stage in DoA4 with the camera spinning around so you can't see where the cars are coming from. It's not hard (it's actually a pretty easy game), it's just incredibly bad.

The weapon you get for beating hard is disappointing.

And protip: RT + Back during cutscenes to skip them quickly. Wish I knew this before!

edit: It even skips the startup to that stupid minigame between chapters!

I just gave you 10 ways to dodge offscreen stuff in this game :rofl

NG2 = fair and balanced

Bayonetta = broken/incredibly bad

:rofl

this thread sucks

have you even played chapter 8 on hard?

yes.  you can extended witch time them with moon of maha kala counters and pretty much decimate them in one or two witch times with that.  do lots of air combos to avoid the cars.   ???

and if the camera is not focused down the highway (which is very easy considering there's three blitz's and they can get behind you without much trouble) you can easily get clipped from off screen by a car. the real threat coming from the camera and the environment rather than the enemies = best action game ever, :bow kamiya-sama.

I don't know any of the enemy names beside a couple. The "blitz" is the yellow version of those red and blue claw guys. I just call them that since they're similar to the DMC4 guys.

you guys do know that you can center the camera by pushing in the right stick...right?

that wouldn't really help, unless you could set the camera in a set position. it's not really a big deal though, just one incredibly annoying section if you're trying to go for pure platinums.

some guy on GAF said to use the RB+back+Y with the sword to launch the dog and then use the whip to keep him in the air... i already skipped over it by the time i read that so i haven't bothered trying it yet, but it doesn't seem like it'll work.

those type of challenges are just annoying, since you will need to do them EVERY TIME you do a scoring run since they count as verses in the chapter. at least DMC has the courtesy to make those strange challenges a one-off to get a health piece from or something. challenges like survival, kill during witch time, kill with torture attacks, etc. i'm fine with since they involve actual combat, not this stupid head-jumping nonsense.

then again the scoring system is fucked so who cares anyway

You can get Wicked Weave Master while not in battle, lol.

Just do - P K (hold K) - immediately RT - P

With the sword it does the giant swipe, which counts as a Weave.

air combo them without witch time and they'll dodge away after a couple hits. if you activate witch time via parry, why would you be using air combos that don't do nearly as much damage as some basic ground combos? that is worthless advice :lol

to pure platinum the section, you stand there in the middle of road taunting until one of them gets close, parry their attack and kill them during witch time. rinse and repeat for the other two, all the while hoping none of them get behind you, because if that happens cars will be flying by from behind the camera while you try and keep your combo alive and keep an eye on the two enemies. but i have a feeling you haven't PP'd it.

the sword weave is godly. PKP + dodge offset with the katanas/durgas makes the game a cakewalk. any dodge offset with the durgas is ridiculous actually, because you can sit there charging the energy ball, and if it looks like you're about to get hit you can just dash away and finish with the weave.

Unfortunately, it's not a parry with the moon accessory.  it's a just-defense type thing where you hit forward the second you get hit.  a regular parry won't give you witch time.

I'm starting to think Hard won't be as hard as I thought it would've been. I recently beat Chapter 5 and it wasn't that bad, even got a couple PPs. Sure I don't jinx it. And you know Grace and Glory aren't that bad once you calm the fuck down and pace/time yourself.

Not looking forward to later Jeanne fights at all.

I dont think the game is very hard at all. No witch time? No big deal, just spam RT and you'll make plenty of orbs that do ton of damage anyway.

Frustrating, but not hard (difference!)

is that accessory really that good? i still haven't even bought it. i just roll with the moon and taunt-heal item equipped so i don't have to use items. guess i'll try it next time i play, i was saving up for the one that recovers magic over time (cost 500k i think).

I'm on the stage where you fight a bunch of enemies on moving vehicles. I slaughtered them all, but now i have no idea what to do. The highway doesn't end.

is that the very start of the level? you either missed one of the horn blowers on the cars or your game glitched. should end right after you take all of them out.

For the torture Alfheims, I just take out the giant angels first, then I milk the rest of the enemies in the wave with taunts (her long taunt will give you 4 orbs I think). Kinda tedious, but it's not too bad.

And nunchucks! :o  THAT should be the award for beating Hard.

This energy ball accessory really is great. It's especially useful during infinite climax because the ball will stun enemies, leaving them open for a combo. Jeanne was a total pushover with it.

Oh, and it turns out I already had it :lol just never used it.

Just made it to Chapter 8 on infinite climax and found a decent way to deal with that garbage highway section. Just staying in the breakdown lane on the side should give enough room to deal with the 3 enemies without having to worry too much about getting clipped by traffic. Why didn't I think of that before :lol

It's more frustrating than hard, imo.

Some hits that make you go "OH COME ON I DODGED THAT", some cheap hits, QTEs, insta-deaths... etc.

Healing items heal for shit, enemies and environment drops rarely any health.

Difficulty:

NG2 > DMC4 > Bayonetta

The game is fairly easy because checkpoints are very plentiful.  It seems like the difficulty for most other action games is it being a large endurance test to see how long you can last a gauntlet of fights, whereas you get checkpoints after nearly every fight in Bayonetta.

I prefer Bayonetta's system simply because it is still challenging, but not overly frustrating.
