Just finished infinite climax. You get a
spoiler (click to show/hide)
lightsaber, that seems worse in every way than the katana
[close]
for beating it. meh. Apparently it only took me 3 hours 15 minutes to beat inf. climax too. :wtf

Guess I'll go collect all the broken hearts/moon pearls now. Then the Alfheims and finally the survival. Probably gonna work on pure/platinuming each chapter as well in between.

I'd place this game around the same level as the other action games this gen. There's just too much crap in the game that bogs it down. Still great though.

Trying to decide between an 1/8 or this, but all the "poor design" comments have me leaning toward weed and just finishing up DMC for now

No doubt, but I'd put DMC4 and Bayonetta on the same level. Lots of small things that keep Bayonetta from being up top.
You're really the biggest DMC4 fan on the internet.  I found it disappointing, though DMC3 was excellent.

Pillow Talk (the lightsaber) is actually the strongest in the game, you have to charge it though.

Finish DMC first, you'll apprciate it a whole lot more once you play Bayonetta.

I can't believe demi thinks DMC4 is harder than Bayonetta. No fucking way. Not at all.

Bayonetta doesn't have any design flaws outside of Chapter 8. The game is complete and utter excellence.

unless you're really anal about your action games, most of it won't bother you, beside the two shitty vehicle chapters

ah, i used it for like one fight and then went to eat. didnt bother checking out its hold attack (which is charge i assume).

the vehicle sections arent shitty, theyre pretty fun, they just go on for too long

They should have just made it one long cutscene with the accompanying music. Only good thing about that level, imo.

Bazillions are pretty useful. Equip them to the hands and the charge makes them a laser beam, for far attacks. Will definitely use these on Climax mode.

What was in chapter 8 that sucked ???

All of it. Vehicle levels defeat the entire reason I play action games (combat). Any time you're not in direct control of your character is bad game design imo (this includes QTE's and button mashing finishers, and that turret section). And also it's just not very fun to play. The camera is too low too.

The Afterburner theme is indeed awesome though. The entire OST is pretty awesome actually.

I used them on a couple of the bosses that like to float too far away for normal attacks. They're pretty awesome for that.

The difference between several weapons in Bayonetta is about the same as the difference between Ryu and Ken in earlier version of SF2.

Climax Mode is pretty much Hard Mode without witch time (Selene's Light doesnt even work). That's kind of disappointing.

Cant think of a good second accessory to go with Evil Rosary though. I guess I'll use Dinatea's Seal to taunt enemies for health.

I fucking bought the 500k accessory and it only restores 2 small orbs. What a fucking ripoff.

Yeah I just used the taunt item. As long as you have a small bit of health (that you can regain in one 'tick' from the taunt) you can survive any single attack (as far as I know). Pretty useful if you have no life left during a boss or something.

The Bracelet of Time allows you to go into WT in  Infinite Climax mode. But it eats away your magic in seconds.

I figured out that you dont need to keep replaying each level (well, sort of).

The game saves before each verse's fight, so if you get hit (going for PP) you can just exit to title and hit continue. If I find myself getting my ass beat due to cheap hits, etc. I can just exit and reload and be back where I was. Your rank isnt affected either.

Obviously this wont help if you fuck up for Combo and Time

Yes I'm probably late on this

I started playing this again since it seems a bunch of the US EB squad now has it.  Finished the first four chapters on hard.  Seems actually to be a bit easier than I remembered for some reason.  Jeanne was giving me trouble before in the flashback battle, and yesterday I was able to beat her on the first try, then proceed thru chapters 3 and 4. :lol

Dunno if I have the motivation to do all that halo farming, though I really want some of the weapons and accessories you folks have been talking about.

You know one thing I'm actually disappointed with is the sex stuff. Before I got the game all I ever read was how sexual the game is/was going to be. And then I play and I'm like "That's it?" There's a couple of crotch shots and that's it. I actually wanted more to be honest.

Anything more, and it would be just awkward. As it is, it's funny awkward. It's comedy.

If you hold LT + LB during the cutscenes preceding Chapter 14 and Chapter 8 Verse 3 it will play the classic Space Harrier and Afterburner themes instead of the remixes.

Are there any negatives to entering those codes? also, if I just got to chapter 5, can I go back to chapter 2 without messing up progress? and what accessory should I buy? I'm still in the progress of buying techniques.

QTEs suck in this game, btw.  Only time I died was on the QTEs because sometimes you get a fancy cutscene to watch, and other times you get a fancy cutscene with a qte that just shows up without warning.

demi

  • cooler than willco

No negatives I'm aware of. Yes you can play previous chapters. Buy whatever you want, I beat the game without them. Hard and Climax you will need Evil Rosary at least, so get used to dodging (or: spam RT)

I think I screwed up the dodge thing in Bayonetta. I'm old and slow so I tend to linger on buttons after pressing them, and I bought that breakdance move, so now I go into a dance every time I dodge.

My medals:

PP, P, P, G, blank (didnt bother with alfheim), G, P, P, P, PP

Those little scenes during the credits count towards the medals, if you complete them.

I totally fucking Platinum'd that level, but GOD DAMN RAGE, so now I got stuck with a Silver

Not too fond of the crap where you have to activate statues and rush over to the brick walls, but I don't think that would really qualify as "bad design."

demi

There's a fight in Chapter 10 that uses those statues and is very useful

The QTEs seem to be the only truly bad design choice in the game.  Otherwise quite perfect besides the motorcycle section running too long.

yeah, summoning those hair creatures is getting very old.  Would be nice if there was an option to turn the climax QTEs into regular skippable cutscenes.  or at least simplifying them so you don't have to do the whole rapid finger thing.  and to turn off the other ones altogether.

QTEs are aids, unless you're playing RE4.  The only game to get the context sensitive thing right.

Wasn't there a game where there they didn't punish you for failing a QTE, but successfully pulling it off game you an advantage in the next part? More games should do that if they must have QTEs.

Ninja Blade doesnt let you even lose QTEs, it simply rewinds. lol.

Cant think of any game that gives you an advantage if you pass a QTE though.

Guess so. For some reason when I PP'd the Prologue I took 22 damage, but it still gave me the PP trophy anyway. I just figured I took it outside of battle somehow and it didn't affect my score.
