So I beat the secret boss.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
That was really really fucking hard. Easily the hardest boss in th entire game plus the fight is in Non Stop Climax mode. FUCK HARD. I put on the Climax Bracelet because fighting him any other way is masochism. I almost beat him once with out getting hit, had half his health bar left and he does his near instant kill attack. Normally you can just turn into the panther and run away but it's like he warped to me. FUCKING INSTANT TRANSMISSION. I barely beat him many tries later. You get the final LP "Rodin" for beating him.

Got a silver medal  :pimp

Do you get the LPs for "cheating" an inputting the weapons codes into the telephones?

I just started ch. 14 on hard and noticed for the first time how she rubs her hand above her crotch when she says the thread title line. :lol

I think I'm gonna start using the beads. Some fights have been fucking frustrating so far.

So what happens if you buy the LP you got for beating that secret boss, you just don't get anything for beating the secret boss?

So does this mean you can get the LP achievement by just halo farming and getting all the unlockables using the phone cheat?

Yeah I think so. I see no reason why it wouldn't work. You mostly likely wouldn't get anything for beating the secret boss if you already have the weapon. It would just be for fun/torture.

Rodin is just a dumb add-in. I'm not sure if its even supposed to be story/world related, its just some distinguished mentally-challenged copy/paste. I'm not bothering with it.

I've been naughty. :teehee

Finally gonna take a break and play some other games for a while before I move on to PP'ing Hard. All around, this is probably the best action game of this gen thus far if only because it's the most complete (barring Infinite Climax being a Hard rebranding). Still, there's plenty of room for improvement in Bayonetta 2. I haven't even bothered with the Lost Chapter or the secret boss yet (I still don't have enough Halos to fight him anyway), but I am done for now.

:piss Cereza, vehicles, stupid Alfheim challenges

At this point I think I can do Hard without much trouble, but some parts of Inf Climax will definitely be a bitch to PP (specifically the chapter 12 Jeanne fight). I intend do PP everything eventually though, including very easy 8)

Hopefully It won't be long before I can buy the platinum ticket. I have 6~ million halos right now so it can't be too far away.

of course, i bought all the techniques and no weapons or such too. might be part of the problem.

I get a ton of platinum medals on specific verses, but there's almost always one battle per chapter that I don't "get" right away. So I die a few times and end up with a stone medal regardless of how well I did on the majority of verses.  :-\

Okay, wtf are you supposed to do after beating those giants near the end of chapter 10? There's an island with two statues and a bunch of water. I can activate witch time, but then it's completely unclear where to go.

How do you miss verses? Every time I complete a chapter there are a bunch of blank spaces in the row of medals at the end. I just replayed a chapter and got a Stone Award even though I got gold or better on every verse where I received a medal after completion. Where are the missing verses? Are there little optional side areas you're supposed to complete or something?

I finally came back to this last night. I'm looking for the chests and alfheims for the last 3 achievements. I completed half of them so far. I'm trying to platinum the game on normal at the same time too.

What do you get for finding all the tears of umbran? I'm not so sure if I'm gonna bother with that.

Moon of Mahaa Kalaa was cool.  Made the combat a lot faster and more fun because I didn't have to dodge anymore, just hit towards enemies whenever I saw an attack coming while I was combo-ing dudes.  Made the claw enemies and Jeanne fights super easy but fun.

Finished the game.  Was pretty good.  There's a lot of things I like about it, some things I don't and the game was a lot different than the expectations I had going in.  Feels more of a 3rd pillar than a DMC/NG action game or GoW/Dante/Rygar action game.  Looking forward to going through hard and the higher difficulties because normal was kind of too easy and action games are best when they're really challenging.

Is there any mode like bloody palace?  One of the things I didn't like about the game was how the combat was always in small bites.  Like you fight 3-4 guys and then that's it, then move on and cutscenes, and then 3-4 guys, etc...my favorite level was the tower climb because there was a lot of good action.  I really like the combat, so I just want to fight lots and lots of guys and enjoy the satisfaction of fighting.

A review of Bayonetta based off the demo:

http://tsurage.blogspot.com/2010/02/bayonetta-demo.html

Quote
Bayonetta (demo)

Bayonetta you're mystery
Jerky cutscenes tell a bad story
The camera lags on the battlefield, I can't tell where you are
Bayonetta you're DMC
With your long hair and nudity
Your combos are long, witch time drags on, it's mashing, it's mashing

eriously, though...

I pretty much thought that Bayonetta would be like Devil May Cry 3 before I played it. But now that I played it, it's pretty much confirmed.

The gimmick to Bayonetta is Witch Time, which triggers when you dodge an enemy attack at the last moment. When it's triggered, enemies will move in slow-mo temporarily, allowing you to pummel them. The concept is good, and I always believe that the element of timing adds a bit of depth that this type of game typically lacks.

The only thing is, it's not really anything new. Devil May Cry 3 does a similar thing with the Royal Guard playstyle where you time a block at the moment of impact in order to do a counter. The difference is, Bayonetta is more of a manual counter. Witch time activates and gives you an opportunity to "counter" by unleashing whatever arsenal of attacks you want to. If you enjoy the combo process, Bayonetta's implementation of timing-based defense is better.

Another difference is that Devil May Cry 3 has a "free form" combo system in which every move more or less chains into another move if you time it correctly, so you can presumeably combo infinitely if you're good enough. By contrast, Bayonetta has preset combos. In execution, though, the two games are roughly the same. Bayonetta has preset combos but they are in such abundance that there's quite a lot of variety in what you can do.

So that brings us to the focal point - Bayonetta is a combo game. Bayonetta is a combo game just as DMC3 is a combo game. And I cannot stand them. I find the design of such a game, low-brow. Most people disagree, judging by DMC3's sales and popularity, and judging by DMC3 and Bayonetta's critical reception. But I absolutely believe that these games cater to smug individuals who get off on watching themselves kick ass. The problem is the game doesn't even require much attention to have you kick ass. You just mash a few buttons and that just translates to some awesome visuals on-screen. It's incredibly superficial. And to me, incredibly boring. I'm not saying that it requires no skill to maintain a combo. But juggle-based gameplay is not about the game challenging you with situations as much as it is you challenging yourself to sustain your erection longer.

The music is pretty awesome though.

Tsubaki considers himself an old-school gamer, which translates to him pretty much hating everything made in the last ten years or so.

I tried to explain to him why Bayonetta is a good game but since I haven't really played the DMC games he just dismissed me as not understanding that Bayonetta does nothing new.

Tsubaki played the demo.  He has no idea about the ways you can switch weapons/cancel into other combos.  He has no idea about how you change up the game play systems entirely when purchasing and equipping new items.  He has no idea about its challenge level and crazy boss fights.  He appears to have played the demo for about two minutes.

This is the equivalent of someone trying Street Fighter for the first time, pounding on buttons and winning against the CPU, then declaring the game "a button masher."

Tsubaki has used Ninja Gaiden II as an example of a game that does it "right" as opposed to Bayonetta, which I guess does it "wrong" since it's all a bunch of preset combos you do to maintain an erection. ::)

Who is Tsubaki? The only Tsubaki I know from GAF off the top of my head is Sanjuro Tsubaki and this isn't him is it?

Bayonetta IS a combo game though. But I am curious to know what games he considers high-brow if combo games are low-brow. Personally I find skill-based games to be as high-brow as it gets.

I started playing hard and the game is MUCH better (sorta like DMC4).  Lots of great fights from the start.  Good times.

What's the point of the magic bar?  I know you need it for torture attacks, but is there anything else?  I don't really use torture attacks much and wondering if I should spend the money to buy the rest of the magic bar upgrades at the shop.  The only accessory I've bought is still the moon one.  Wondering if I should try some others since you can have 3 equipped.  I don't have a whole ton of halos to spend and I have no interest in ever farming them, so I won't have many the entire game before I shelve eventually.  Trying to just buy what counts.

Also what's the difference between the production model versions of weapons and the ones you have?

Bayonetta IS a combo game though.

Does it have to be though?  My main attack is PKP with the sword (you know that ends with the big horizontal sword swipe for major damage).  I don't really do combos.  I just mix up some small attacks and tiny strings while dodging.

The magic bar is only for torture attacks and some accessories (one of them allows you to activate it with magic and it will absorb some hits for you). You can only equip two accessories though; honestly I have no idea what that third slot is for. And the production models for weapons only allow you to equip them on both your hands and feet (very lame).

It doesn't NEED to be a combo game, just like DMC doesn't, but it's really how it's meant to be played in order to score well.

Does it have to be though?  My main attack is PKP with the sword (you know that ends with the big horizontal sword swipe for major damage).  I don't really do combos.  I just mix up some small attacks and tiny strings while dodging.

There's another Tsubaki.  I'm sure Drinky and lyte edge would know who it is, he used to post under the handle MoonPrince back in the rec.games.video.* Usenet days.

He chats with Himu and duckroll all the time on IRC so they would know who he is as well.

The magic bar is only for torture attacks and some accessories (one of them allows you to activate it with magic and it will absorb some hits for you). You can only equip two accessories though; honestly I have no idea what that third slot is for. The third slot is for when you're in easy/very easy mode, to equip the Marionette accessory.

Bebpo, the magic bar is for torture attacks and when you equip other accessories, as using most of them costs magic.

Hmm, I like the rosary accessory combined with RT+back for skipping cutscenes.  Makes levels quick.  The only thing is that the rosary counter attack is pretty weak on some enemies and then you're like "damn, I could've done way more damage in witch time >_<"  But I guess it's good for getting ready for infinite climax.

Just finished the first real boss on hard mode.  Been pretty good so far, hardest part was the Jeanee fight at the start of ch.3.  I suck at reacting to her finger snap summons quick enough.
