Just watched through the series.  Too bad it was cancelled before they could settle on whether guns made bangs or laser sounds in the future.

I miss spending my weekend watching Breaking Bad, The Shield, and Rome  :-\
You finished Rome? What did you think?

Quote
I guess I should start The Sopranos. I've seen the pilot, it wasn't bad. I'm more interesting in starting Deadwood tho
The Sopranos is fantastic, really a must watch, especially given how much you've liked other shows that are kind of similar.
I'm personally waiting for the complete series set to go on sale before getting into Deadwood.

I have two episodes of Rome left. S2 is damn good, although some things kind of turn me off. I really like Octavion's mom (if only the actor was younger she's be a perfect Cersei in Game of Thrones), but her arc kind of gets ridiculous in S2 - especially the last couple...encounters with Sylvia

Loved loved loved Firefly.  One of the few series that I actually paid to own.  You should watch Serenity.  It attempts to tie things up a little bit.

Dexter can start to feel shitty once you really that everything that isn't Michael C. Hall as Dexter is pretty god-awful (with a few exceptions). Then you realize he's onscreen like 80%+ of the time and kind of accept it and like it again.

Oh man the in office relationship between Laguerta and Batista is horrible, I cringed during every scene

She actually gets more and more nude as the Seasons progress till you finally see some titties in Season 5. Also, dat' skin tone. Seriously, she's the first woman I've seen in general where I actually marveled at how beautiful their skin is. Its so milky pale.

Her getting progressively more nude wasn't enough to get me to keep watching Weeds. I just couldn't take it anymore. Every character is awful except for Kevin Nealon.

Cajole, noooooo, I feel differently. I love Doug (Nealon, who is the best character, no doubt), Andy (the brother in law), Celia, Celia's daughter and Nancy (Mary Louise Parker). The two sons are only good for Andy to riff off of and expound his knowledge to.

Also Zooey Deschanel's cameo was amazing

But as stated, Kevin Nealon is awesome. Memorable Doug vocabulary...

I don't think the show is bad, it just wore on me. I found every fucking character almost totally unlikeable. It also felt like a very weird mix of comedy and drama that just didn't work a lot of the time.

No, I watched it streaming :( Theres a Canadian affiliate (CTV) that streams S1 and S2, so Im watching them both that way. Im hooked on the show now, so I figure Ill stream the first 2 seasons, find nefarious means of seeing S3 and S4, then buy the eventual complete series Bluray set. Is there a planned # of seasons?

I was wondering why on earth you hadn't watched Mad Men yet, Solo. Always seemed like the kind of show you'd enjoy. Glad you're liking it, it only gets better, too.
I wouldn't worry too much about the fact you've been spoiled on a couple things. From my perspective it's more about observing how things unfold over a long time than individual moments or plot points.

I think it's looking like 6 seasons.

I think that's what they said earlier, but just prior to Season Four premiering, Weiner had this to say:
Quote
spoiler (click to show/hide)
What happened is, when we talked, it's so hypothetical. But I was going to skip 1963, and I decided not to do that. I was going to have it come back every two years, but then I thought, 'Why have a formula? Why not let the story dictate when we’re going to open up the curtains every year?'
[close]
(first part of the quote is with regards to the amount of time that passes between seasons, so slightly spoilery)

spoiler (click to show/hide)
In terms of how long it goes, who knows? I don't want the fans to feel insecure. I don't know. I have plenty of story to tell. One of the great things about committing to the changes at the end of last season is that there’s so much life to the show. There’s so much new story in this whole beginning.
[close]
(second part of the quote you shouldn't read if you haven't seen Season Three yet)

It was just one of those shows that for some reason I missed the initial boat on, and never got around to. Now Ive blown through one season and 11 episodes of S2 in like 3 days  :lol

As to the bolded, thats what REALLY sets the show apart for me. It reminds me of Arrested Development, but in drama form, where things are set into motion episodes or seasons ahead, and when you finally see things coming together, its brilliant. The other thing that Im really loving is how the smallest things are important. A gesture here, a look there - its all in the details with these characters.

Absolutely. And I'm sure you've seen this recommended everywhere, but if what you love is television shows where the details really matter, you need to check out The Wire sometime.

i watched Titan Maximum last night which is a parody of giant robot shows done by the robot chicken guys.

i laughed a few times but it wasn't anything really great.
That's kind of a relief. I thought about buying a copy of the DVD during my trip, realized I hadn't even HEARD of it, and decided to hold off.

If I could find that mid-'80s parody-dubbed sentai heroes, "DYNA MAN," then I'd be really happy. I assume the rights reverted before DVD ever came out, because I've rarely met people who saw it.

I thought they would have done the newspaper angle better considering Simon's experience in the field. I thought it was done well, but it didn't elevate the season. Then McNulty's bullshit wound up being the center of the entire season and I was like smh. Oh well, at least the finale was amazing.

Really, how awesome is S4 so far? And ep 4.07 is probably the best.

Its great as usual, but I cannot (yet) share your sentiment of it being the best. Draper is so pathetic right now in almost every way (kids, job, drinking, you name it, hes fucking it up - and shit, he was even nailing hotter chicks with more panache when he was still married than he is now :lol ), and there hasn't been (yet) an episode like the final run of S3 that rips my guts out. But, the season is only half over. As of this second though, S3 is still king.

How about the best season halfway through? I feel like S3 was a very very slow burn (that paid off beautifully).

Also, Kyle Chandler will always be the dude that gets the paper a day early.

Hard to measure in half-seasons, lulz, but I think I'd go with S1 in that regard. I think I've finally put my finger why I loved S3 so much and why the rest of the series has a slightly uphill battle for me - Draper's past. Through the first 2 + seasons, he was a mystery to all, but with the events that transpired last season, and with his cards being put on the table (for his family, anyways), and the aftermath, a big part of the draw of Draper has now been fully etched out. Without that element of mystery, you're forced to finally take him for what he is, and lets face it, ol' Donny boy is something of a terrible human being.

Testament to Hamm though for making what should be a completely unsympathetic character so hard to not root for.
