Drakerider is totally legit.  Awesome game so far.

The updated version (adds the ability to switch off random encounters, difficulty balancing, a couple of other small things, in addition to swapping out the original version's pay-per-chapter IAP for a lump sum upfront charge) is half-price until the 4th of July, so it's only eight bucks.

Ya, Drakerider is cool. Kinda bullshit they released the superior version instead of an update. I got bored since the game is super easy (I'm confused what they balanced... they made it harder?), and just beat the game since the mazes were boring and stupid. The encounter toggle is a BLESSING and I wish I had it.

Chaos Rings 2 is dope as fuck, best Square iOS original game.

Been clearing some games off my device at work, here are some quick reviews

NightSky

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/nightsky/id577710084?mt=8

This game is stupid.

Walking Dead Assault

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/the-walking-dead-assault/id573981310?mt=8

This game is awesome. I tore through this like a fat man loves dick. I left it on my device because I will probably buy the DLC chapters (if they are paid anyway). It's like a top down strategy game. Though not much strategy involved, it's just good stuff.

Hunters 2

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/hunters-2/id489463556?mt=8

This game is awesome. It's like XCOM if you are too poor to afford XCOM. Has a fog of war, so you have to take levels slow. You can recruit random soldiers and mold them to your liking. They have talent trees, different weapons, and daily missions to waste time on.

Ghost Trick is $5 (requires IAP unlock)

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ghost-trick-phantom-detective/id489113377?mt=8

IGN's free game is Order & Chaos Online (the MMO; they removed the subscription so now its just a big MMO riddled with IAPs. Freemium)

http://www.ign.com/prime/promo/orderandchaos-free

Hunters 2 is becoming a drag. Can't even finis hthe final chapter without pracitcally maxing out my characters. Still ok, though, just... drag.

Quadropus is a fun game. Kind of a rogue like meets ARPG. Nice progression system on it. The floaty controls take a bit to get used to, but work with the theme of the game.

Played a few more games on my device:

bit Dungeon (also on Android)

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bit-dungeon/id583949163?mt=8

Retro roguelike with a zelda layout (kinda like Binding of Issac) -- controls are pretty shit though. If this got a rehaul, it could be a pretty sweet game.

Dungelot (also on Android)

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dungelot/id590247444?mt=8

Another roguelike, and the very first screen confused the shit out of me. I was like, where the fuck is my character? Turns out, all you do in this game is tap the squares and see what pops out. Find the key, move on. Ok... game was pretty easy and from impressions, it can be very hard to die.

Rebirth of Fortune 2

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/rebirth-of-fortune-2/id621162672?mt=8

This is the 4th in a series of pretty well made games by Dotomchi, taking place in a single world (think Ivalice). One of them is a Tower Defense, One is a pretty basic SRPG, one is a Match 3, and this new one is an even more fleshed SRPG. There's not much of story, you just do a series of battles and get stronger and rank up. You pay money to level up. You unlock new classes based on how much you level up the classes. Impressions made it seem like it was super easy as well for the first 30 (!) battles, so I kind of lost interest. Especially when I own the only SRPG you need, FFT. But I did enjoy the Match 3 game when I played it to completion.

Are free right now.

Feel kind of stupid spending 10 bones on IF2 and Superbrothers.

Did get Tiny Wings, Badlands and Where's my Water? for free now...

Another batch of games

Wizorb (Also on PC, Vita, XBL Indie... maybe Android?)

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/wizorb/id541954089?mt=8

This port was rubbish. Glitches, crashes and more. Game is pretty sweet though. Buy it on a different platform, it probably runs much better.

Flashout 3D (Also on Android)

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/flashout-3d/id563209339?mt=8

Basically iOS/Android Wipeout. Just not really as fun. You tilt to control, and it auto accellerates.

Riptide GP (Also on Android)

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/riptide-gp/id469610082?mt=8

Hydro Thunder iOS/Android - same deal as Flashout. I don't really have the patience to do touch controls for a racing game.

Knights of Pen and Paper (Also on Android, PC)

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/knights-of-pen-paper/id549248038?mt=8

This game is pretty sweet. Lots of love put into this title. You emulate a D&D environment, and you can set up the battles however you please (add more enemies in battles, etc) - You can select a class, as well as the person playing it, who each have an inherent skill. You can also buy little goodies for your "room" which give permanent perks, so you can swap in and out depending on what you need. Nice pixel art and music.

Scurvy Scallywags

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/scurvy-scallywags/id593299847?mt=8

This game is extremely boring. There's zero draw, matches take forever due to how the movement is set up (the board moves based on which way you dragged. So you're trying to maneuver your way to the enemy to kill him. I deleted it after 3 islands. That's pretty much all the game is.

Plants vs Zombies 2 is out.

https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/plants-vs.-zombies-2/id597986893?mt=8

I had already played the game via other methods and I can honestly say I didn't like it nearly as much as the first one. It feels grindy, less clever, and more gimmicky than the first one did to me and I was someone who really liked the first one.

You can play it for free and never spend a dime on the upgrade stuff and that's good in theory but it still feels like it was designed as one of those free to play experiences. If you were ideally designing it, the current iteration isn't the best way. I wish it was a normally designed game that cost however much it cost.

I seem to be in the minority on those views though because it seems to be getting great reviews from the press.

edit: I don't want to come off like I hated the game. There were parts I enjoyed. I just didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped or expected to.

Been playing a bit of Asphalt 8 on the ipad. It's surprisingly good. I think I tried one of the earlier Asphalt games and thought it was crap. And I generally don't like racing style games on ios except maybe for the real racing series.

But this game is pretty damn fun. I feel like once I got used to the controls I actually ending up having a lot of control which is always a problem in Ios action style games. And the multiplayer is actually pretty damn fun which is another rarity in ios action titles. It's only like 99 cents or something. Performance is a bit meh on the ipad 2 but then mine is also jailbroken all to hell so that probably doesn't help in that aspect.

I recently had a HUGE discussion with a couple of friends directly related to this situation. There are a number of devs who are touting the joys of the Android environment, and how it's a myth that nothing sells on Android... and then there is the problem with vetting devs on the Google Play Store, as it is possible to register with an identical company name to an existing developer, and post the same-named game up on the Store, for free. It allows piracy to flourish, even as the people pirating the games may just think they're downloading the trial version of the game, etc.

So, yeah, Android's not a priority until that gets in a bit better shape.

Some recent iOS games I've played at work:

LostWinds & LostWinds 2

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/lostwinds/id477973472?mt=8
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/lostwinds2-winter-melodias/id488671285?mt=8

These are from the Wii - and ported faithfully. Controls arent an issue. I enjoyed both titles. The 2nd game runs much better than the first (they probably got more comfortable with the environment).

Mutant Mudds

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mutant-mudds/id571172432?mt=8

This is the same game as 3DS/PC/whatever

Pretty decent game. Levels are short, there are some side-rooms that offer much more challenge. The "3D" effect ala Wario Land VB doesnt work obviously on iOS, definitely get 3DS to take advantage of this effect.
