It's...ok.  Very pretty, brain dead puzzles, infinity blade style combat.  Very much wants to be ico/Zelda, comes nowhere near either.

Knights of Pen and Paper just went free, too.  It's good.

Ah. For free, I might go ahead and take a look, though I'm always wary of normal games which later retrofit an F2P model.

I've paid for Knights of Pen and Paper and played a bit of it. I like the style and the writing. The setting always makes me laugh.

Trials isn't so bad. The only 'paywall' you hit is the timer, but for the first few hours you are leveling up (and recharging your timer in the process) just in time.

But it's one of those games where after about 5 or 6 races you're ready to move onto something different.

So, I think all the wailing about the F2P aspects are overblown. But it is kind of wierd to be 'grinding' for parts in a game like this.

The grindy aspects didn't both me either. It's the way a certain segment of mobile games are handled. That's reality at this point. You are meant to play them for a bit and then come back the next day.

Liking Wind-Up Knight and Smash Hit.

I particularly adore Smash Hit. They've taken the formula of an endless runner - a typically shit and boring genre - and made it into a rail shooter - one of my favorite arcde genres. It is a really good rail shooter too. The music and graphics are really memorable and remind of some lost forgotten niche ps2 game I would have bought back in the day.

Really, really enjoyable, high quality piece of software and it is free.

I haven't been ever as impressed with mobile gaming as I have been with Smash Hit.

No idea. The only one I ever played (and loved) was the original Fairway Solitaire.

It's not straight-up solitaire though, more like a Tri-Towers variant with a golf theme (with progression aspects, cheevos and power ups).

I like Rocketcart's experimentation with the pricing model for Wayward Souls. I genuinely hope it goes well for them but I'm also curious to see how the market reacts. It favors the early adopter and it makes logical sense they're adding more content to the game.

Then again I've been staunchly against the "race to the bottom" pricing model of mobile gaming so anything we can do to bring prices up is good in my book.

Just want to apologize and eat crow.

I've been a very big critic of mobile titles for a while. I liked them, but I always saw them as diversions and never as legitimate gaming options outside of stuff like Game Dev Story or ports of classic games.

So over the past few months I've been opening my mind up to them more experimenting and trying to find things I would normally play but on mobile. I'm pleased to say that so far I have been able to enjoy the full palette of my taste on my phone. Yes, an android phone. If you are not finding games you could like on android you're not trying hard enough. That said, to be completely fair, many of the games advertised on play store are absymal and everything I abhor about mobile gaming at large. But when you dig deeper...and I mean really deep, you start to uncover some really, really creative software that is well designed and memorable.

I'm about halfway through Windup Knight 2, and I've beaten all of Smash Hit.

I've installed the following:

Flashout 3d, ittle Dew, Detective Syndrome, The Room, Mount Olympus, DJ MAX Technika Q, Instantion. I have bought a lot others but I'm hurting for HD space and will do them later.

Best thing about these things is that I don't have to dedicate hours to them while they still have the depth and mechanics that I crave.

Mobile games are seriously great. I own all consoles and handhelds (except a Vita, lol) and I still dedicate time to playing cool games on my phone/tablet.

Granted every-time I try to play a "console RPG" on my cellphone I get slapped in the face by reality, but that's on me for being a stupid optimist.

We were talking about how mobile games are B games now and like...theres stuff like Dumb Ways To Die that are basically Warioware. I love Warioware and i found its absence lately just saddening. So it is like mobile is taking advantage of thelack of variety on consoles and even 3ds.

I sort of accidentally bought Wayward Souls.  no regrets as it's pretty great, plus I needed something for some upcoming flights.  very impressed with the controls and how natural it feels.

one complaint I have is with how dark it is for a portable game.  I had to turn up the brightness on my phone to make out some of the tilesets.

also considering Hitman Go.  people seem to be into it.

i've played a bit of disco zoo, basicaly you dig around a field and by doing so you rescue animal which you then put in your zoo so that they can make money, so that you can catch more animals, so that they can make you more money and so on

it's kinda like reverse minesweeper meet one of those grow games like cookie clicker

unfortunately after a while the animal go to sleep and you have to awake them, this wouldn't be so bad but the first time you catch an animal it goes to sleep every 5 minute and i was surprised by the fact that someone tought it would be acceptable to make a game where i'm supposed to pay attention to it every 5 minute, luckily as you catch more of those animals, it increases the time they stay awake to more acceptable realm but it's still a pretty shady way to keep you in the game, the animals always follow the same shape (for example all pig go into easy 2x2 blocks, rabbit into vertical lines and sheep into horizontal lines) so remembering which animal has which shape helps a lot, the game has a feature that keep track but it cost 2$ to unlock which is pretty dumb considering a quick trip to google will give you the same info and more

lastly there is premium currency in the form of disco-bux, you can use one of them to get 5 more tries if you fuck up catching some animal or alternatively you can pay them to trigger DISCO mode in which all the animals make double the money and don't go to sleep as they are too busy dancing, it's pretty hilarious

it's not that great of the game but the pixelated graphics are so damn cute that i still find myself enjoying it

i could stare at those tiny sheep all day :heart

i've been trying to find more stuff to do on my android cellphone and while wading through a shitload of skinner box and card games that are "grind until you give us money!" first and critical thinking second, i found this

and i was pretty surprised because it's almost like a proper game, you throw your unit like billiard ball and then make them attack by smashing them against the enemy, different unit also bounce in different ways and it also feature some decent 3D graphics, monsters that actualy comes with different skills and actual skill required... there seems to be IAP element in the form of an equipment gacha but so far the game has been pretty easy and generous so i can't complain

i wish more japanese mobile game would come through, for example this is made by sega and even coming to vita and look's like something i would play

but no, sega has decided that we have to be damned to an eternity of sonic games :beli

Chain Chronicle?  What makes you think they won't release it in English?  SEGA Corporation's already released several games of that ilk on English App Stores.

isn't the game like 1 year old and pretty text heavy? i tought the standard rule is that if there is not even a tiny mention of an english version in a year then there is no hope at all
