Since there's no MLB thread here, I thought it should be mentioned. Otherwise the most mentally distinguished mentally-challenged ump in the history of baseball couldn't call a ball that bounced three feet fair right in fucking front of him, which would have given the Twins the lead in the inning. I wonder how much Steinbrenner paid him to make that call.

So all 5 people who've ever watched a sport or did physical activity can post in it? Waste of time.

How long have you been watching baseball?  Bad calls happen all the time.  Sucks for the Twins, though.

That was worse than an ordinary call, because it was so fair I saw it as it happened and told someone it was fair. And that was some shitty TBS camera angle. Yet the ump like 4 or 5 feet from it couldn't get the call right?

We might not have FJM anymore, but Ken Tremendous is on Twitter, praise the Lord.

"Spending $423 million on three guys >>> "doing all the little things right" >>> actually doing all the little things wrong"

"A-Rod, career postseason: .291/.381/.519/.900. Jeter, career postseason: .311/.380/.477/.858."

"Derek Jeter, 7 career ALCS: .262/.339/.405/.743. Mark Lemke, 5 career NLCS: .282/.368/.364/.732."

Triumph likes that last one.

David Wright's WAR
2007 8.4
2008 7.4
2009 3.3

I don't like this trend. Omar should trade him for 3 random Latino players and build around Jeff Francoeur.  :drake

In the series of stats Cajole posted, my guess is they go (in order) batting average, on base percentage, slugging, and on base + slugging.

Batting average simply being your total hits divided by at bats. On base percentage being total times on base divided by plate appearances. It's different from batting average because it factors in things like walks. Slugging would be total number of bases per at-bat (how could I screw that one up?). And the last stat being the OBP and slugging added together.

Bocsius got it. Except slugging is "total number of bases per at-bat (not hit)."

What Malek posted was "Wins Over Replacement" which basically just tries to put everything together (batting, fielding, baserunning) to come up with how valuable a player is over some AAA minor leaguer.

And he claimed that Kevin Youkilis is shit, despite the fact that he was worth 11 WAR the last two years.

Actually, WPA - WPA/LI. Jeter in the postseason = -0.80 "clutch" WPA (only since 2002 though)

God, I am such a nerd.

Oh and A-Rod's WPA in the postseason with the Yankees is 1.49 and his "clutch" WPA is 0.73.

I'm in the opposite boat- I find it easier to hate this year's Phillies team.  Probably because a) they won it all last year, b) they haven't built up goodwill with me by denying the Mets a trip to the post season at the last possible minute and c) Cole Hamels is just a douche.
