Dreamcast started off strong, and I was sad to see Sega, well, pull a Sega at the first sign of adversity.  OH NO COMPETITION PACK IT UP BOYS.

SegaNet was ahead of its time.  Phantasy Star Online, NFL2K1 and all the other titles I played online made for a great experience.  Skies of Arcadia made the DC purchase worth it alone.  Not to mention other great titles like Soul Calibur, Power Stone, the great arcade ports (MvC2!), etc.

Virtua Tennis and Soul Calibur are possibly the only universally loved games amongst my friends in my entire life. Not one person didn't like those games. Dreamcast lived a short but sweet life. Well, it lived for about four good years in my house because of those two games alone.

Well I only started with Legends I never got around to it on DC, and it was still a fantastic game.  THAT is how a Zelda should be in terms of characters Himuro, such fantastic characters and settings.

It was pretty good. You forgot the Shenmue box btw. Shenmue is my favorite DC game.

I own Legends for GC.

Skies of Arcadia is an amazing game. My friend let me borrow his DC in 2002 and I loved it. <3

I've always wanted to check out Legends, but I don't know. I just never have. I'll give it a try someday, but for some reason playing Dreamcast games on non-DC consoles just feels like an injustice.

Shenmue II Xbox really dulled that experience for me I think. It just didn't have that same magic.

What makes me sad about Dreamcast the most is that I wasn't there when it needed me. I was a Playstation cigarillo then and I completely hated Sega for what they did with the Saturn at the time and I was too busy playing Final fantasy Fucking IX and prepping for the ps2 to give DC a chance. And here I am playing these wonderful games years after they came out, still amazed, and I kinda hit my head against the wall.

It really sucked back then, not being able to afford more than one game system. If I had the money I would have gotten a DC in a heart beat.

I really loved Shenmue when it came out. The graphics were HOLY SHIT OMG and the freedom was really cool.

I couldn't finish Shenmue II though. I think the tedium of the series got to me only by the second installment.

Himuro, you killed Sega.

Shut up. :(

You know, I was going to get a Saturn instead of  Playstation back in the day. I got a psx in 1997, and by that time the Saturn was basically or almost dead. I really wanted to support Sega, but then here was this awesome new machine called the Playstation and it had this game called Final Fantasy VII with omg graphix! I'm a traitor. And then in fucking 1998, right after I got a playstation Sega releases a new system in Japan?! Fuck that. That pisses me off so much I had a vendetta against Sega for the longest.

I don't get what you mean by tedium Cajole. The sequal is far less tedious than the original, in fact, I could throw you some tips. When I replayed Shenmue II the first time I got about 100,000 Hong Kong dollars. That was enough to last me the whole game, so you don't have to go to work or anything.

Well, I got an import or burned version from my friend...I don't even remember. The load times were utterly horrendous. I don't know if that was because the disc was fucked up or because that's how the game really was. What I remember quitting on was a QTE event that I apparently sucked at and I kept falling and every fucking time it would have to load again. I just stopped playing then. Maybe I should rent the Xbox version one day, but I doubt I will.

And Himuro, I guess I was the opposite of you back then. I was anti-Sony. I still say the N64 was better than the PSX, but that's because I'm not a RPG fan at all. I refused to buy a PS2 for a while only because it killed Dreamcast.  :-\

I'm glad I'm not distinguished mentally-challenged anymore.

Yeah thee's this part where you have to walk like 6+ floors of WOODEN PLANKS and it's non stop QTE. My trick there was that I would save when I reached a floor and if I fell I'd reload.

Huh? I follow systems that have the games and ps3 really doesn't have games that interest me, and it's direction interests me even less.

Did I ever say I wasn't going to get a ps3? No. I will get one eventually, but for the price of 500-600 dollars, ps3 just isn't worth that value duder. And rofl @ "N-cock" when I want a 360 baddddddddd.

I've actually been able to state for a few years now that the PS2 was the best console, but I never felt like spending the money on it and I was happy enough with my Gamecube. Now that I'm playing games a lot again I needed a PS2.

Oh shit, I never thought of that, Himuro. It's still utterly distinguished mentally-challenged though.

RPG and fighters really aren't that important to me, if there's one good enough, I'll get the console of choice to get my fix - so the N64 won the PSX/N64/Saturn era in my opinion.  PSX had a way more diverse library with far better AA games to play, but the N64 had so many great AAA titles that I really just loved that console.  PS2 handed GameCube its butt on a platter, though and the Xbox started strong and died way too quick to make way for the 360.

Although I love to make fun of Sega, it's really just a byproduct of two things:

1) It's just so damn EASY when they keep doing incredibly stupid shit
2) The irrational Sega love over at OA makes it easy to rile that crowd up

...I will admit to being a Sega fanboy in the early stages of my videogame life.  We're talking Master System and Genny, here.  In retrospect I can admit that overall the SNES was superior, but MAN did I love my Genny back in the day.

Since the first couple years of the Genesis, though, Sega has pretty much consistently done EVERYTHING wrong, except for the Dreamcast launch and first year or two.  But by that point no one gave a shit anymore.  Sega will never recover from going 3rd party, and it's a damn shame.  Honestly, though, they deserve to die for Shenmue alone.  Christ that game is fucking awful.

The Dreamcast overall was not that great IMO, but it did have about 20-30 games that were very good and well worth owning.

I still own mine. :)

My personal favorites where Virtua Tennis, Crazy Taxi, Powerstone 1/2, Jet Grind Radio, F355 Ferrari, Sega Rally 2, Bass Fighing, Sega Marine Fishing, and Chu Chu Rocket.

......

Considering the amount of time DC was out, that SHOULD be great. Most consoles that were out the amount of time DC was usually have only 10-15 worthwhile games, and that's MAXIMUM.
