I was shocked when Michael killed Ana Lucia and Libby.

It really gave me mixed emotions.

On one hand I was like,"NO NO MICHAEL, How could you kill Libby?! What about Hurley?!" and on the other,"YES YES YES, MICHELLE RODRIGUEZ IS DEAD!"

I didn't know how to feel, but it was pretty awesome.

Eko's storyline was okay, but could have been lifted out of a dozen crime/redemption shows, and it ultimately went nowhere

stuff like that, and ben (who was originally only supposed to be around for three episodes, yet all of a sudden became integral to the "mythos") make me think they've never really had any idea where they were going with all this, so i don't have much hope they'll deliver even a mildly satisfying ending

Well, Eko at least was going to play a major role in the show but the actor decided to quit.

eko was supposed to be on until series finale but Akinnuoye-Agbaje asked them to kill his character because he hated living in hawaii. some concessions have to be made when creating a serial television series, especially one as one long as lost, but i agree--i do think they are pulling plot-lines out of their ass.

I think they have a blurry idea of what's going to happen beginning middle and end but they fill in the details on a season by season basis.

Ben/"Others leader" was always planned from the start, the only thing they were not sure of is if Michael Emmerson as "Henry Gale" was going to be that character or a separate character to be introduced a few episodes later

I'm worried they'll wrap up a bunch of the character plotlines without ever giving any real clarity or closure on the island and it's history/abilities.

And then do a slow retreat camera shot of the island with mystical music playing.

That will be the day that I snap and throw a shoe at my TV.

Just gonna post and not read thread.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT @ "He's Our You"

ffffu, it's 5am and I have school tomorrow, fuck I want to see the next episode  :'(

Solo annihilated. There have been some hiccups this season but ultimately it's been pretty solid. The explanation of the island (by Hawkins) was rather meh, I rolled my eyes in fact. But the actual time travel has been tolerable, and has given lots of insight into shit. Solo said it's like fanfic, and I guess that's true. But eh, that's to be expected given the angle they're playing (time travel). I'm certainly more satisfied with this approach than that of the previous seasons (ie introduce a vague concept or object, sort of explain it 10-15 episodes later).

I miss the Jack/Locke interactions, true, but there's enough tension/drama for me to forgive the absence.

I can't complain about my biggest problem (relating to time travel) until I see how its handled by the end, but in the meantime some of my gripes

-some bad acting. Especially Faraday during Charlotte's death. Also Ben has lost whatever edge he once had, and is kinda becoming a hammy caricature

-island explanation. That scene was just...eh.

-Charlotte's revelation really seemed like the writers filling in plot holes. In S4 Miles says she has been to the island before, but she never really gives that impression. If she truly remembered Faraday from her past it would have come up. weak

-Locke's journey off the island seemed rushed.

Watching this show has got me thinking about what would happen if this whole forum crashed on an island like the one in the show.

We already have our own Sayid (Jinfash), Hurley (Willco) and Boone (BrandNew). The only real problem would be the lack of female characters, but everyone on this forum is gay anyway, so even that wouldn't be such a big deal.

Haven't gotten that far yet. I have some similarities to Charlie, since I play guitar and used to be a druggie, but he's kind of a wimp who gets punked around by all the other guys on the island, so the similarities end there.

It's pretty well constructed (so far). As I said, I won't discuss my biggest problem until the end, so I can see how they deal with it. But the few complaints I shared aren't game changers, especially when compared to the awesome moments of this season so far.

One of the frustrating things about the previous seasons was always the lack of explanations into the island and its mechanics. The insight given this season is pretty awesome.

Dude, hatin' is just your opinion, but don't take your opinion at objective fact.

If you think that S5 might suck just because it shifted tone and finally got around to delving into the mythos that served as background mood setter until then, well cool brah...how would you have felt if they never bothered to explain these things?

I said this to the wife last night.  She loves the show, but she doesn't get too much into the mythos.  She loves the nuttiness of it all and the character development/interaction, plus the OMG moments (like John originally being in a wheelchair and shit).

She asked me how mad I'll be if the ending sucks.  I told her I expect the ending to suck.  From day one it's always been about the ride.  I can't imagine they will ever satisfy me enough to say "THAT ENDING WAS FUCKING AWESOME".  And then I told her that I disliked Season 5 because the answers to the questions were just not satisfying to me.  They were not as cool as I imagined.  I would have been happier if they just kept asking more and more questions about the mythos while furthering along a more developed character story and kept the mythos as the background.  Answer some questions about the island, but leave most unanswered.  If they really try to tie everything together for the fans, that will be the downfall of the show IMO.  Leave the mystery.  That's the lure of the island.  Just let us experience it.  We don't have to know everything.

Just kinda sucks that the show was so heavily predicated on DESTINY and FATE and now it appears the big picture was as convoluted to the writers as it was to the viewers. Yes, I was stupid and gullible enough to assume that a show following a single arc for six seasons would manage to flesh out some of the shit satisfactorily.

Hopefully I'll be eating my words at the end of this season

No, I feel disappointed with the ultimate resolution of those mysteries. Theres a million different paths they could have gone down, and they chose this freakin' one.

Basically, as Rob Thomas said, the climax (S5's answers) paled in comparison the foreplay (S1-S3's questions). We waited 5 years to find out that the Losties crashed because they made themselves crash?

Not to mention the complete tonal/genre shift that this show has undergone over the years. From a character centric survival tale on an island with "supernatural" events occuring in S1 to a plot progressing, hard sci-fi time travelling jaunt in S5. For better or worse, its barely the same show now that it once was. I watch something like "Walkabout" and I miss that Lost.

"Whatever Happened, Happened" :bow

The Kate flashbacks were meh, but overall it was a good episode.

The time travel angle is ridiculous when explained. Having Hurley question the "theory" is obviously the writers talking directly to viewers, something they've done before. Unless there's a massive wave of amnesia or something, it doesn't make sense. Alternative realities would make more sense.

This season is great so far, Solo further annihilated. Come on dude, insight into most of the mysteries that were once vague and unanswered? In this episode, some stuff on the smoke monster.  :o

Ben remains a weak spot though. Very hammy, and all his emotional scenes seem weak. Which is odd considering he had one of the best emotional scenes in the series, last season (getting his daughter killed).

Now that I'm deep into Season 3, I have to admit that I got owned. Reading plot bulletpoints and whatnot had me really skeptical, but actually watching it for myself, I'm pretty impressed.

My only complaint about the show is that some of the episodes make you watch 20 minutes of flashbacks for characters you don't really care about. Aside from that, this show is pretty damn awesome.

The Variable was alright. The dude who plays Faraday is such a bad actor during emotional scenes lol

spoiler (click to show/hide)
The (alleged) death was so telegraphed it became anti-climatic

The time travel thing is confusing as fuck. Faraday said he could change the future in a domino effect type way. Him dying is apparently apart of ensuring the incident occurs. Them being in 1977 is their present. So, when they got on the plane in S1, all this 1977 stuff was...in their future right, hence they don't remember shit. But that makes no sense because their future would be directly tied to some character's pasts. Like, Kate and Sawyer saving Ben. If Kate and Sawyer had died in S1, they would not have been there to save little Ben in the past, thus he wouldn't grow up to kill the Dharma members and help bring the Oceanic 6 (well, 5) back to the island. Ah fuck it

Holy shit @ Shadow Locke. THAT was the big cliff hanger/shock for me.

Soo, these shadow of the statue folks...are they on an entirely different "team"? ffuck

I kinda expected Ben to kill Shadow Locke, or Jacob and Shadow Locke.

I thought the end would address why Ben and the others don't recognize Jack/Sayid/Kate/Sawyer etc in the future. In S4, Richard goes to see Locke, and I guess that season does a good job of insinuating the others were familiar with him.

S5 is pretty damn good, I certainly don't get the hate. There are weak points and time travel is confusing/dumb BUT it's still compelling. Not as focused as S4, but I definitely enjoyed it.
